@@hakunamatata1352 compost... Totally fine for compost. Remember, the fungus only affects seedlings. Once the plants get a proper cambium layer, the fungus can penetrate or do anything really.
1. Wash your seed trays: 2. Use new potting mix; 3. Raise the heat 70 to 90 degrees; 4. Moist, not wet potting mix; 5. Adequate light; 6. Air flow and air circulation; 7. Bottom watering; 8. Seed planting depth.

@@DO-NOT-COMPLY-MANDATES don’t buy strawberry seeds. Instead, buy bare root strawberry plants. You can buy bare root strawberry plants at most garden centers and online. There are three types of strawberry plants: June bearing, ever bearing, and day neutral.
A month ago I had some mold starting on the dirt in a portion of my flower seedlings. I took a small paintbrush and used hydrogen peroxide to paint the mold. It all disappeared. The next day a few mold specks were still visible, probably some I missed, so I painted them. The mold has not returned. 😊

Perfect Bonnale!
I add cinnamon to my seed starter mix and perlite as well as putting ontop the soil after planting my seeds. If I’m using wooden popsicle or bamboo sticks as labels, I’ll apply oil of oregano to them. Wooden plant labels are normally the first thing to get that white fuzzy mold in the pots. Oil of oregano is extremely anti fungal. Just moving the oil soaked wooden labels to each corner of the seedling pod is enough to treat the soil permanently for fungus.

Oh thank you so much. I have struggled with seeds and seedlings. I now know, after watching your video on damping, that I was doing everything wrong from start to finish. OMGosh 😪😪😪 None of the other people I thought were offering great growing advice ever mentioned damping off! None of them!!! 🤨🤨 I know where to come for gardening advice from now on. These other guys just lost a follower. 🤨 Thank you for saving me some agonizing growing frustration in the coming season! 🙏🏾 I was about to start off wrong again!🤏 I WILL share and recommend your channel to other people who are even thinking about gardening. You will never know how grateful I am for finding this video on your channel. I had already joined the Facebook gardening group that you mentioned "Growing Better". Forgive me if I got the name wrong. I was just so excited about this particular video. You are My hero! 👏🙏🏾🙌
Sprinkling cinnamon powder on top of the soil helps too. You can also spray a neem oil solution at the bottom of seed trays to prevent any insects crawling in from the bottom. Sterilising the germination mix with hot boiling water helps too. Of course, please wait a day before planting your seedlings 😄

Solarize your seed soils. It's easy, just put in a black bag and sit it in the sun for a couple days. Shake it everyday to make sure it's all evenly 'cooked'. Just remember to let it cool down for a few hours before using. This is great if you do like to reuse your soils. Alternatively, you could bake your soil as well, but why waste money when the sun is free!

My best tips include using cinnamon sprinkled generously on the soil where you are going to plant your seeds &/or using a tablespoon or even 2 of 3% peroxide per gallon of water when watering the seedlings. of course if you use less water adjust accordingly It must be added just before you water the plants since it will dissipate quickly. This keeps any fungus or pathogens from establishing in your tray or cells.
Really useful info. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea it this problem was caused by pathogens. I had thought overwatering was the cause.

So how are you planning to grow when SHTF? I would be practicing growing without buying all new every planting. So when it does you won't die.
Two questions. I saw a video that said you can sprinkle cinnamon on your plants to keep those pesky little gnats away. Would you recommend this? Also, when watering, how much do you fill up the tray and how long do you leave at sit? I just can't get this right! I think I over water, my plants will be damp for 4 days in a row and I'm thinking geez aren't I supposed to water every other day. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! 🤗
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
3 жыл бұрын
Definitely, sand and cinnamon both work on fungus gnats! When I first water the seedling trays, you can't over water because the soil can only soak up so much...you can leave it for 2 hours or 6 hours.....it'll be the same level of moisture. Its the repeated watering AFTER the seeds are planted that cause the rot and the over watering issues..... ;-)
