Happy 80th, Dame Janet. When I met you, you were adorable. You have glorified the 20th century with your singing, voice & interpretation.

She is now 85 and has just done an on-stage interview with Simon Callow at the Wigmore Hall, which is available on their website. I have loved her since I heard her Saga LP recitals in the mid 1960s, and I heard her 'live' many times. Pappano calls her the greatest singing actress the UK has ever produced, and he is right.

My Mum's absolute favorite Mezzo! I grew up listening to Dame Janet and I am so pleased to see the great Singer looking so well! Kudos to the Interviewer who showed a great deal of respect for the Artist without being too gushy, and had well thought out questions.

Too politically correct for my tastes. How can anyone truly mention di donato as a good technique singer. ?

I couldn't agree more. The low register is the test...it is not free and relaxed nor are the vowels even thought the range.

Dame Janet Baker, one of the greatest (or the greatest) mezzo-sopranos of all time thinks that Joyce DiDonato is a good singer. Who are you?
