Kathmandu was the capital of hippies at that time. Thats why this movie was shot there. My father was in Nepal police and he was in the security team at that time for this movie. Dev anand came close to him, smiled and asked my father his name and shaked hand with him. Now my father is 71 yrs old. He sometimes still tell us that story.

zeenat was so good in this film a great actor. She was the one who broke the boundaries between, the main heroine and the vamp. most Indian films had the good girl ( heroine) white sari, praying in the temple waiting for a man, and the vamp like Helen dancing, this is the first time the main heroine did it all . she broke the stereo type Indian woman.

Yeah, Anand Bakshi had very simple lyrics compared to say Sahir Ludhianvi or Majrooh

Guitar is the soul of this song. Late Bhupinder Singh (Singer) played this guitar notes. Western musicians were also mesmerized and surprised on the guitar played in this song especially in the beginning of this song.

No music director in India has created anything remotely close to this legendary song which Pancham’da created in 1970! He was so much ahead of the times. RIP 😢🙏🙏

RD was already well known after the success of Teesri Manzil in 1965/66. By 75 he was already the number one in Bollywood as the MDs from 1940-60s were losing appeal to the newer western based orchestration, especially the use of Drumsets and Conga/Bongo drums. Thank God this spelled the end of Tabla in Bollywood music. God I hate that stupid percussion instrument for its use in Bollywood orchestration for Pop music.

An awesome trivia about this song - Dev Anand didnt want this song in his film. RDB persisted and wanted this to be atleast a part of the record. Dev agreed and after further persistance allowed filming of this for just a minute or so! And then this went on to become a national craze! Wonder what Dev would have thought.
