Dale Jr. Was Terrified Around Celebrities at MTV Video Music Awards
Ойын-сауық
Behind nearly every superstar is a publicist. For a young Dale Earnhardt Jr, the man behind the public machine that became the Dale Jr and the Budweiser number eight was a man named Jade Gurss. Not many will know the name, but he was a major player in the growth and trajectory of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Hall of Fame NASCAR career. For the first time ever, Jade and Dale Jr sit down to talk about the good old days and some that were far from it.
While doing public relations for Budweiser, Jade was the man managing Dale Jr behind the scenes. From at-track interviews to magazine articles, to appearances on major television shows, Jade Gurss was making things happen. Gurss and Dale Jr talk about some of the biggest things they did together, from presenting at the Video Music Awards, being on the Late Show, to Dale Jr hosting an episode of MTV cribs, it was a publicity path that brought Dale, and NASCAR, to areas of American culture that most drivers never went. Just how did some of it come about and how did the introverted Dale Jr handle being thrust into the spotlight on such a stage? It wasn't always simple. Dale and Jade even joke about sitting between Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore at the VMA's to a blundered appearance on David Letterman's show. The print about the second-generation driver didn't just come in racing publications, the exposure soon rocketed from Sports Illustrated all the way to Playboy and Rolling Stone magazine.

I love Jr. His Dad would be so proud of what he has become and contributes.
Love the way Dale laughs at himself, real humble guy right there. I really enjoy his KZread program.

Absolutely agree. He’s so humble …..True to himself which goes a long way for him and the very rare rest of us humbled individuals 💪❤️🇺🇸
What I love about this, is old friends sharing memories and having fun with it.
Jr. You are the most down to earth honest person I ever heard talk.
I just listened to this on my phone. I love the KZread videos to see the facial expressions and pictures. A totally different experience. Great show as usual. The late 90’s early 2000’s seem like yesterday.
EVERY week this show just blows me away . just great stuff and never enough time .
Theirs nothing like seeing jr. in his Budweiser #8 uniform. Loved & miss those days.❤❤❤
I was terrified the first time I met Jr! Nicest guy ever though.
Funny stuff! This is why your fans adore you Jr. We feel that despite fortune and fame, you are just a regular guy.
Going to Richmond to see Dale race this weekend! Let's get the w Jr!!!!
I loved your cameo in the short run series "fast lane" when they pulled up beside you, and you said "call me Dale. That was cool
I imagine Dale Jr. as a nervous cartoon character in some of these situations. Great stories, so funny.

A nervous cartoon character? Dude I get your point but please don't get too comfortable with your mouth. Jr tells entertaining stories and let's leave it at that.
I live how these are essentially stories of a country boy’s first time in New York City and it’s really nice to know that Dale is just like the rest of us😂
YOU are the celebrity ... Lol Dale ! Love how u always laugh at urself Great podcast Team "Dirty Mo" !
Another fan-tastic interview. Super enjoyable, really love the back stories and behind the scenes look. Also enjoyed Jr talking about the Rolex crash, wow, that fire was no joke.
I just love this man & miss him on the track so bad!!
OMG, one of the funniest dang podcast!
The man named Jade was a key author in Dale''s book Driver 8 about his rookie season. It is a great read and full of funny and insightful stuff.

I love your Show
The marketing story with Anheuser-Busch aka Budweiser about Clash. I can see why there is so much pressure there.
Hour away from the show...I can't wait to watch it. I can already tell this is gonna be a good one!!
Awesome stories!!! I could listen to those all day!
Lol! Funny how this stuff all falls together to make something work so perfectly!
Dale JR is just a regular guy who has lived an extraordinary life. And that’s what we love about him. Hell yeah
This series is really giving me an appreciation for NASCAR, and especially the people.
That was good dude You bein' starstruck I woulda laughed my butt off watching that
Love these stories.
Love it!!!! More More!!!
Thanks for having Jade on. Jade if you read this I miss seeing you at the GBKL! We had some great times.
My coworkers just look at me weird when I bust out laughing at these stories!!!😂😂😂 This was awesome!!!
Dale Jr is the man!! Down to earth great guy .
Best Career move Jimmy Spencer ever made punching Kurt.
I hope these stories never end.
Very cool video, Junior is so humble. If JR MOTORSPORTS ever made the decision to bring a female driver onboard, they should take close look at Brooke Storer out of Florida. She has over 150 featured wins, 8 track championships in Florida and 5 Nascar Whelen All - American Series wins. The girl knows her way around a race car.
its sooo cool to see you being a real person and being star struck but you are more than you what you think
the 3 of them were so funny ! a great great episode jade gurss was better than some drivers been on
I don't get terrified around celebrities ..... But I do get very ..... very star struck 😁
Greatest guy ever. U da man Dale.

I LITERALLY COULD LISTEN TO THESE STORIES FOREVER 💞🤗💞🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 PRICELESS 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We need the full episode on KZread. An audio podcast doesn't do it justice.
Dale I would not have wanted to have gone to NYC either
Y’all crack me up!! 🤣
Dale SR would have hated all the media and sponsor stuff they have to do these days.
O Dale I wish 😪you would not come on I have to set right here until your of the phone always a great 👍show
Lol in loving memory of Brooke Haulbrooks wyatt covid and Rebecca Lynn Bell and her mom
I watch every episode of Dirty Mo and this clip reminds me there are two Dale Jr’s. The one that grew up in the biz, living in a hot spotlight. The other is the guy that has no idea he’s a star. A normal guy that sweats just like me. Of course there is the part where he’s sitting next to Jessica Simpson, so he’s nothing like me. Hell, I’d freak sitting next to Lisa Simpson much less Jessica.

great story.mandy moore is one of those women id never get too old to play a game of toe jam football with.
Dang Jr look at the size of your forehead back then . Y’all shoulda sold some sponsorship space on that , you would’ve made a killing !

For young fellas, they sure do forget a lot.
Found the video on here (KZread). It was a tribute to Aaliyah who had just lost her life (as did 8 others) in a plane crash about 2 weeks earlier.
LOL
Poor Mike gettin all butt hurt at the thought that if not for Jimmy Spencer and Kurt Bush he'd not be where he is today. Lmao
Hilarious!
I think it was for Aaliyah, not Left Eye
Willie Mays!?
Dale Jr gets it- he's just a person - no better , no worse than anyone else- working in the horse industry, I've been around A listers bottom feeders and everything in between- I've learned these people aren't what they seem in most cases- some good - some so full of themselves I laugh out loud- never met him- but I would bet a shot of brown liquor he's a good dude

Very well said. He is a reflection of a good person you meet out in the pits or in the Grandstands on a Saturday Night at any small Track in America. My whole family raced. You will never meet any better people.
Butterfly effect
Story for another day is frustrating. What about telling it today?

Because they have a finite amount of time and are still trying to finish the first story? 🤷🏻♂️
Careful Jr? Jimmy will be calling asking for some severance pay for being the reason for Mike being the creative mind behind the podcast 🤌🏻$$$?
It’s sad that Dale’s memory is so bad from the concussions / CTE. You can tell he enjoys doing these interviews because it’s things he honestly doesn’t remember….
Hey Mike, I'm still on fire.. I remember you being on the cross. I'll never forget. Dale would make a terrible cop. Just saying. Haaaa
Damn thought I was about to be first 😂🤣😂🤣

Who can slobber over Jr the best. This isnt what kind of person i expected.
Never trust a flat brim hat 👎.
Is Jr a liberal? WTH would he be doing at an MTV event? The NBC thing bothers me enough.
