And any competitor is always keeping score no matter what lap it is. He knew exactly what he was doing and seized his chance. As a driver your constantly thinking of your next move in split seconds. When you see whos ahead of you you decide immediately how, when and where your going to pass them. You definitely take into account how that drivers raced you in the past and in-turn execute what you have planned. Dale was right, Denny passed plenty of other cars in that corner and nobody wrecked in that turn. Once Hamlin saw Chastain it was a surgical strike. Denny's a vet. He knows how to maneuver that car to create that incident without taking himself out. Denny's done it to countless other drivers over the years and knew how his car was handling and if he could pull it off. 100% intentional, 100% retaliation. Period.

From another perspective, Mike isn't a driver just like the rest of us. He needed to yield a bit because Dale was willing to listen to a point about what really happened on the track, ya know? This was wonderful! Keep the realness in NASCAR. That's why I never miss a race. It's truly my favorite sport.

    Fun listening to this discussion. Gonna have to agree with Dale though. I was surprised to find out the wreck that people didn't think that was retaliation. If any other driver was lined up next to Hamlin there's no way that situation would have had happened. I would agree that Hamlin gave Chastain the chance to lift and it wasn't the most malicious form of retaliation but Hamlin drove Chastain up the track not caring whether Chastain hit the wall or not.

    Pretty much, plus at Pocono, 17 laps is a LONG way to go. Maybe you pull that move on the last lap or two, but there's no way you risk a long feud, possibly wrecking yourself, and possible retaliation with that many laps to go. You spend the next 12 laps or so trying to pass him clean, if that doesn't work, at the end of the race you get a little physical.

    I listened to this yesterday on the podcast and I couldn't wait to see with my own eyes Mike's reaction to Jr cussing. First and foremost Mike you are 100% wrong. What Denny did is an extraordinary common move. I've been going to race tracks for the last 40+ years and have personally seen this move. Hell I had a buddy of mine who would run the outside guy up the track on restarts and thought it was funny as hell. The inside guy running the outside guy out of real estate happens all the time in either retaliation or just to teach a guy a lesson or just for fun. I'm willing to bet that that move was repeated at least 50 times this past weekend alone at the 100s of short tracks across the country. Mike sad to say but you're talking out you butt. (I'm not gonna cuss at you like Jr did) What Danny did was 100% intentional and yes he was thinking about retaliation with 20 laps to go.

  • @thomasredden4263

    @thomasredden4263

    2 жыл бұрын

    Ok but that doesn’t make mike wrong that makes his point. He’s saying this wasn’t retaliation it was two guys racing for a win and not giving an inch, and if it were any other drivers it would be seen as such, but bc it’s these two who have had the run ins they have this year it seems much more weighted of a move than it actually likely was. If Ross lifts he will have other opportunities to get by, but he takes the riskiest move he can and just send it around the outside knowing full well who is inside of him. Denny didn’t turn into him, he ran for as good of an exit as possible and Ross chose to stay in it and get way higher than he should have been and left him self no exit without lifting, which he was unwilling to do. That isn’t Denny fencing the dude. That’s Ross being unwilling to see the forest through the trees. I’m not saying junior is wrong bc it’s 100% not something anyone could know except Denny, but for all the work Denny put on him last time he was running ross hard, he seems to be fully willing to blatantly prove a point, so why now do something that ambiguous as your way of proving a point when this dude needs to be unabashedly fenced for the way he has driven?
