Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Vol. 2, DM&E Mainline Waseca to Lake Benton - FULL VIDEO (2013)
Ойын-сауық
In this video, C. Vision Productions returns to the Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern to document the railroad's operations between Waseca, Minnesota and Lake Benton, Minnesota. We’ll follow trains across 150 miles of DM&E’s mainline, with coverage provided of the Tracy Subdivision and Huron Subdivision. This former C&NW route travels through the small towns and rich farm fields of southern Minnesota, with many points of interest found along the way. This show chronicles EMD's finest, as they power across the railroad with heavy trains of grain, ethanol, and bentonite. Locomotives from DM&E, IC&E, CP, SOO, STLH, CITX, and CEFX are all seen in operation, with models SD40, SD40-2, SD60, GP40, and GP38 handling the majority of assignments. We were fortunate to capture two plow trains during the winter of 2009-2010, as DM&E’s Jordan Spreaders were busy clearing the mainline of deep snow following multiple winter storms. Footage for this show was captured between 2005 and 2012, with re-editing completed in February of 2023.

Got to love those old EMDs sd40-2s hum as they work up and down those rolling hills. This video has the best sound I've heard in along time. Thankyou for all the hard work that went into this presentation.

@@CVisionProductions1 I've been a conductor at UP since 2004 and really appreciate it when someone loves this railroading so much that they go out with no guarantees of seeing anything and make these videos. Thanks again.

Your comments remind us that all those long days and nights spent looking for trains with little to no sleep was worth it. We had to be on the railroad’s schedule (anytime day or night) to complete this project. Staying up all night to find a train before sunrise was commonplace back then. But really, it was a lot of fun. Thanks again, Mike!
Thank you for yet another wonderful train video! 18:40 - shaking my head

Think im the only one who loves hearing the trains pass threw waseca. Although I will admit with zero crossing in town above or below grade it does get annoying with traffic. But its not bad with the lack of trains except in spring and fall coinciding with plant and harvest. The rest of the year it seams most traffic is to the ethanol plant in Janesville and the 3 mills in Mankato. Used to work in the Brown Printing plant on the west side of Waseca. Wed have a few cars bringing paper to to the plant but sadly its since closed.

Thank you for sharing your insights on the railroad’s operation. We’re sorry to hear that Brown Printing has closed. That must have been a major blow to the community. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

Ahh. Finally. News about this line now today: jointed rail still remains in the City of Eagle Lake but for how much longer is questionable. The railroad crossing signals at main st. In Janesville have been replaced in 2021 sometime. The sites really have not changed much other than CP GEs now running the line. A lot of foreign power can be seen a lot of the time though I will admit due to living right next to this line.

Thank you for the update, Ryan! It’s surprising that the jointed rail is still in place. Eagle Lake is a neat location.

Yea. It’s my home town. I did note that recently in the past couple years CP has done some work. Just in 2021 a couple sections of jointed rail was replaced outside of town. But from the east side of Eagle lake to Waseca is now all welded rail. I believe the speed limit in that area now has also been increased. I’m disappointed that all the trains that once roamed this line has been reduced. Your lucky to get at least one train in daylight out on this line today. Somedays there are more than others but most trafic runs through durring the night hours now. One of the crossings in Eagle lake 598th ave had its signals signals replaced in June of 2019. Only one crossing remains on the line between Mankato and Waseca with a mechanical bell. Sading to see
