PENN, and the best thing about Penn is that from their least expensive to their most expensive reels, you get the exact same drag system which is phenomenal. Sure, some Daiwa reels are a tad smoother, but the drag systems vary from price point to price point. the higher the price, the better the drag system. With Penn, you have the top of the line drag system even in their $50 reels.

I've had 2600C for more than 50 years. As long as you keep it clean and service it, it should last a lifetime. Mine works perfectly

I've used revros and legalis LT's in the 5000 and 6000 size for pelagics here in Australia. They survived a few months of abuse in saltwater applications before getting grindy and less smooth. Overall, a decent budget reel if you look after them, but the lack of seals really hurt it. I've now bought higher end reels like the BG MQ, Saltist MQ and the Certate for my setups. Daiwa's are pure quality.

The frame flexes alarmingly

A good day on the water fishing with Daiwa Reels followed by a Leinenkugel brewski is hard to beat. Enjoyed your video, have used Daiwa Reels for over 40 years and the only issues I have experienced is the occasional failure of the bail and that seems to always occur when parts are no longer available. I believe it's called planned obsolescence. Boy, do I miss Minnesota and Wisconsin when it comes to fishing.

Yes, I agree. I haven't had any issues with the bail yet. MN and WI have great fishing for sure. I'd say MN has the upper hand for sure, considering the lower population and greater volume of water.

Love my Daiwa reels I have a couple of RG-ABs $50-60 range 10 bearing they are Pflueger President killers unfortunately Daiwa changed them and now calls them Regal lt with a smaller spool. Daiwa is quality

I like diawa baitcast reels for fresh water, Same for saltwater but I do have a fuego and saltist for saltwater.

Pflueger used to be the go-to budget spinning reel, but something changed in them recently and they have so many problems now. I've been buying these budget Daiwas and they are great.

I know exactly what you mean. Something is different now and it's too bad, really. It would be nice to have multiple company options for great budget spinning reels, rather than basically just Daiwa at the moment.

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzread.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

I just counted. Daiwa offers 26 different spinning reels! Too much choice, LOL. The only way I can be assured of the quality is to disassemble one -- which isn't possible when shopping, although you can look at schematics, but these can be difficult to find, match up. I just bought a daiwa revros and a daiwa legalis. Freaking awesome. In my opinion, daiwa reels are the perfect balance between smooth and tough. I've owned tons of reels in my 31 years of fishing. Penn, Shimano, Abu Garcia, pflueger, Mitchell, okuma, piscifun. They were okay, but I like daiwa much better. That's just me

I had the same experience. Other reels were okay, but once I switched to Daiwa, everything changed just like you said. They're smooth and effortless.

One of the best reels i got is a Shimano Baitrunner St 2500. I used it for around 5 to 6 years, never cleaned it, the reel handeled fish up to 40 lbs without breaking a sweat and is still as smooth as the day I got it. For spinning reels I prefer Daiwa by a hair, got a Ninja and it is a really nice reel as well.

I agree. I have a Revros on my light rod and I just love it. I have a few other Lews and Okuma reels, and I often find myself wondering why I didn't just get another Diawa.

Ive had a legolis3 for 5 years. Not a single mishap. No issues. No hassle. Bought a revros4 hoping for the same result

I hope so too. After 5+ years I'm finding just now that the Revros isn't reeling in as smooth as it used to. I'm good with that considering I've made thousands of casts and it's only a $50 reel. Still works just fine for me though.

I agree with you regarding the Revros and the Legalis but Shimano also makes great reels in that same price range. I've had decades of use from my Shimano Sahara.

Still have Diawa ss1300 and 1600 reels that are 35years old now and work perfectly. The newer reels do not close the bail as smoothly even though they are internal trip. I find all the brands seem to be a copy of each other and not as much difference as the older reels. I feel anything less than a Fuego was not easy to close bail. I usaully close by hand anyway, but my point is they don't seem that great of quality when you have to fight them that hard

Daiwa Legalis is a great reel ad has not given any trouble to me but personally I would buy a Daiwa Fuego 2023 if I would need a new reel.

Is it used in saltwater or freshwater ? Do you think it’s good for saltwater ?

I have a shimano citica and diawa zillion, Shimano had a cleaner simplistic designs that made it a joy to maintain. Diawa, good luck looking for parts or replacing parts. So I'm sticking with Shimano.

I like Shimano - they make good reels. At this point, I haven't needed to replace anything with the Diawa reels but if I need to, it would be just as easy to purchase a new reel considering how cheap they are.

2023 is a beast, while dropping a tonne of weight.

Did you know the $20-30 Crossfire Lt uses the same frame, spool, crank arm and drag system as the Revos? The only difference between the two is the handle and bearings. When I found that out I just bought 3 more bearing and replaced the bushing and I am telling you, they feel identical. And I didn’t it for far less than $50.

The daiwa crossfire is not the same. The revros also has an air rotor compared to the standard rotor on the crossfire. You get what you pay for. So you bought a crossfire for $30, then bought 3 ball bearings. For the price of 3 ball bearings, you could have just spent the extra money on the revros. I had a crossfire for about 4 months. It was just okay. Then bought the revros. The difference is night and day.

I never go above $40 new. Ultra light, light, medium, heavy. Fresh or salt. Been catching fish for 50 years. Never had a reel from any brand break or fall apart on me because of poor quality (I usually buy Shimano, Daiwa or Abu Garcia but Penn, mitchell, quantum and others are good too.) I stay away from shakespeare and Zebco. Wear and tear, yes eventually. I have landed large mutton snappers on the Daiwa D-Wave saltwater combo which i probably paid $35 for (Years ago). Still have it. I rinse, oil and keep in boxes. I don’t throw them in a corner of the garage. But i have nothing against the guy that spends $400 on a reel to catch the same fish as me. My 2 go reel for freshwater was the Shimano Symetre. Again i have landed from lake trouts to creek chubs using it. Even though i just got a couple of newer reels, i will still use my symetre. I take advantage of end of season clearance sales and buy used for the ones too expensive new.

I like finding old Daiwa's and other older quality reels at Goodwill or garage sales. I usually get some nice stuff for $5 - $10 each. Sometimes w/ rods attached!

I own and use a Daiwa Certate 3000. I cant tell you how much its worth paying good money for a great reel. Shimano is very similar, and Penn is getting close

And what about the shimano's ?

Got dawai exlceler Lt it's good I'd recommend 2500-3000 dawai toned the line down so I use 3000 more

I have the daiwa revros it is my first spinning reel and I’m having a lot of issues with line wrapping around the bottom of my spool and even under the reel itself. I don’t know if this is a spinning reel thing or the reel itself is bad.

Possible reasons: you installed too much line on the reel, you installed the line against the curvature on the original spool, or you’ve got cheap line that may have become stiff. Watch a KZread video on how to spool a spinning reel with.new line.

You should mention Kastking for quality budget equipment. By the way, I am a Diawa rod fanboy.

I haven't used Kastking so I cannot offer my opinion. Good to know there are other options for quality budget reels.

Shimano reels are still the king. They have the same line up.

FYI- do a break down of the reels and you’ll get more views/subs than rambling about your opinions.

I atm own a Revros and a Sweepfire along with other much more expensive reels. Seems like whenever I hook into a 30 lb channel cat it's on my Sweepfire 4000. Shes a beast ! Amazing.

Cheap diawa reels shred themselves to pieces in salt water. Diawa = excessive maintenance. They're high and reels are amazing but if your looking for a budget reel, go shimano

Yup, in saltwater applications mine died in less than 7 months. I bought magsealed reels like the Saltist MQ and the BG MQ and they have been worth every penny I paid.

Never had and issue with my Regal. That thing is used for fresh and saltwater. It all about the maintenance and proper prep.

I've had a Diawa AG2050 since the late 90's, i believe.....use it fresh AND salt.....Still going strong....Yes, I clean it about every year. Preventive maintenance, obviously. Why wouldn't you want take care of your stuff, if fishing is your thing? So, my 20+ year old Diawa....is UNshredded

Because of the planned ob-so-les-cence. We change phones every 2-5 years. The same is for fishing reels, rods.. everything. For top tier you get smooth, light weight tool with a little bit longer lifespan.

What are you talking about bro. My father has shimano sedonas that were 50 bucks or so when he was 30 hes in his 50s now and they are still in good shape.

I'm a tackle guru. I have 100 rods and reels. I can't use cheap stuf. Only stellas and saltigas for me. I love top of the line stuff. I use lures that cost more than those reels. Lol

I have Daiwa reels but none of them are spinners..! Don't like them and never have.…. Strickly conventional reels.…! They're not worth the money to me… and I don't like the problematic line twist that spinners have… even if a swivel is involved... The mechanics of a spinner dictate line twist regardless of what you do and conventional reels hold more line than a spinner of the same line class, .. Also half the size of a spinner… So with that being said, ... If you can't cast a conventional reel… you're stuck in Spinner Hell Forever….! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
