Those old TVs used particle accelerators to make phosphor dots emit light. Along with visible light, they also emitted X-rays. As ionizing radiation can be harmful, we were warned not to sit too close to them. "The Simpsons" has a joke about this with the TV that Homer watched as a child being a "Rad King" brand and the TV room having a permanent shadow cast by Homer on the wall from the TV. At 8:25, I was disappointed that the last panel was not some Canadian geese.
