In this guitar lesson, Steve Stine discusses 3 Warm-Up Exercises that you can do daily to get your fingers moving and avoid injury.
When you are simply trying to warm up, it's different from a heated "practice regimen", and what I have found is that warming up better prepares me for the hard work I am about to encounter.
When I wake up and grab the guitar, or get home and am going to play for the first time today, I need to do a simple yet effective form of finger warm-ups so I don't injure myself, and it makes my practice more productive.
1. 20 Second Legato Exercise
2. The Roll
3. The String Cross
Now, there are MANY approaches and alterations to these, but it will give you a start to creating your own warm-up.

Great warm ups Steve! I’ve found the older that I get, the more I need to stretch and find more exercises such as these to get me going. Whenever I try and go at it cold, I get numbness in my fretting hand 🤚, so having these is a must for the “aging” player 😉 or any player for that matter. Thanks again!

Hi Juan! Awesome! Glad to know the lesson was useful. I believe warming up is an important part of your daily practice. Thanks for your comment and keep up the good work.
Hi Stine, Thanks for your video . I am already doing some of your exercises here as daily routine in the morning. Now finally after a hard fight and perseverence for almost two months, I achieved total freedom of movements of my left fingers which were otherwise moving together for both Ring and pinky. Now they are almost independent from each other. Infact, I can raise now much higher in case of ring finger but still that practice is going on daily basis still as I wanna achieve at least raising it upto 60 degree from the fretboard.

I put both hands in sink and gradually fill making hotter and hotter until its straight from water heater at first yea it burns a little but loosens my joints up beyond comprehension, leave them there about 3 to 5 minutes dependent on stiffness and /or time limits. yes i've used my hands as wrenches and hammers all my life, the way It is when were young the exercises listed here work very well as long as fingers comply., thanks Steve.
