I ws born in 1967 and this just made me want to go back in time. All the people that have now passed. My mum and 2 of my sisters, life was so much more innocent. The music definitely adds to the video

The music was added on transfer from Cine to DVD.....I have loads of family films....

My grandparents moved to Dagenham in the 1930's. My late Aunt was born in the house they rented in 1944 and lived there for nearly 70years. Have some happy memories of living there. All changed now.

what a beautiful video,,,i moved here in 73 from poplar and we thought dagenham was heaven ,,,familys pickniking in parsloes parks,,,those were the days,,thanks for sharing keith

Parsloes park, I was a gardener there back in the day, children in the paddling pool so much laughter, whatever happened.?

@@macyoda2887 so true mate, glad someone else grew up knowing it as matchie Island, used to catch stickleback in the stream, rode there from Maxey Road, just off Parsloes, bag of broken biscuits, out all day. Both parks used to be so beautiful, still go to matchie sometimes, drive there and walk around the lake, but as you say, feel almost out of place there now but still go. Good days my friend, seems like a lifetime ago now don't it.

@@macyoda2887 I know that road, had a friend lived in Singleton Road fella, we used to go "newting" at the "Fort" at Dagenham East, looking for returnable Corona bottles lol. Are you still living in the Nam fella, I'm up by Crow Lane, left Dagenham once, itchy feet brought me back lol.

I started at the Beacontree Infants School in early 1963, Can still remember the icy pavements so that must make you and I very similar ages Keith (recently turned 63). My last family link with Dagenham ended 3 years back when mum aged 83 sold the family home of 63 years just off Whalebone Lane and moved to West Somerset to live near my sister. She's 86 in a couple of months and still doing ok. A great piece of film. Thanks for posting.

I'm 62 so yes very close. My Mum passed 4 years ago and we sold her house of 54 years in Halbutt St. Similar story.

@@Hammerman48 I still have friends in Dagenham/Barking but see them all too rarely having lived in Bristol for the last 20 years. Thanks for the prompt reply. Takes me back my heart just feels with happiness

Dagenham was a lovely place in the late sixties when I moved there.Brought up three children here but I wouldn't like to bring up children here now acompletely different place now don't feel safe here anymore.

I was born1958. Lived in Stamford Road. Can remember the flamingos in Parsloes Park and the lovely well kept scented flower beds. Also the huge paddling pool which children played in for hours during the summer. A 62 bus would take us to Hainult Forest for a long day out. The 145 bus from Becontree tookus to Valentines park to feed the Squirrel and a swimming pool. Kids played safely in the streets and parks we had no phone andd was told to ask thr park keepers the time so we were home before dusk. Little did we know the freedom we had then . Obviously there were some dangers about but how I would have loved my grandchildren to have that innocent un corrupted by media and mobiles life.

Brilliant little film..Thanks... I was 8 at that time...and out of action with pneumonia. Remember the cold months...but it got me off school..(Alibon )for several weeks lol.

Nice to see that. I remember the Parsloes Park signboard very well. Went to St Peters, at the top of Goresbrook Road so brought back some old memories. And being right next to A13 ensured we all had a healthy ration of lead in our systems! It was becoming a shithole even in the 70s; government cuts meant nothing for kids to do, and when idiots smashed up a playground, it stayed smashed up 'cause there was no money to fix it. Thinking about it now, lead in petrol does cause violent behaviour in boys... perhaps that's why there was so much vandalism in the 70s and 80s.

Looks like the chequers pub at the beginning, always in there Friday night pool and a beer on way home from Brown and Geesons where I worked.

Yep, Nan & Grandad in Becontree Avenue. Pub at the end of the road & the local church. 1960s-1970s.

born in 61 down becontree av,,,then butler rd years went on and with my wife moved to dag av in film with the old mini out side ,i moved there in 87 ,,,the old lady past away hoo lived there befor us when new her son was army then police man i was told from next door when i moved there moved from there 17 years agoi brourt up my kids there and moved on ,good days

What a sight to see snow do youngsters know what it is haven't seen any in years where I live Eileen

0:01 is where the pub was is now Argos, next to it those parade of houses and shops were demolished in 2003, the site was abandoned until 2012 where they built the premiere inn and the brewers fayre. Everything looked much better in the past in my option when the old buildings were there. Nowadays there is a lack of character. Even the Becontree estate shown in the film is characterless now as there are almost no sash windows left since the council had them all swapped with cheap UPVC

The Sash windows used to get stuck when you went to slide them up or down, if the cord broke you had to get the council to come in a fix them and a wait it took. They were not double glazed so in winter, if you had heated the house the night before in the morning you were faced with condensation which puddled on the internal window sill, my Dad used to put towels out to soak up the water that pooled. He then used to open all the windows in the house and chammy the windows dry. My Parents home had UPVC - Double glazing, the heating efficiency is amazing and no more condensation. I have walked all over the estate on my trips back to visit and there are a handful of home that still have the original windows, they are rotted, as you would expect with homes that are 80 yo 90 years old.

We lived in lodge ave and got married in st cedds Church in 1964

Was Becontree Heath/Wood Lane in there? and at the end it looked like a 106 bus - the first 8ft wide buses called RTWs for London TRansport. This must have been recorded between Dec 62 and March 63 - that horrible winter. I was at a dump called Becontree Secondary Modern School at this time. Some things were better then - the cars, the only takeaways being fish and chip shops, but on the minus side - no central heating, and that bloody school, which should have been twinned with Wormwood Scrubs!

It shows Dagenham Avenue where I was born....then Chequers. Views of trains from the Iron Bridge between Dagenham Heathway and Becontree stations....The A13 going towards East Ham Manorway. Yes it was 1962/63 the tough Winter. That's me in the blue coat eating A KitKat aged 4.

It was a lovely city then.total disaster now not fit to be lived in!!!

Didn’t know Dagenham until years later, in 1962 was living at Brentwood, remember those old RT buses and at 7 going to school at Upminster, think the film made it look rather bleak.

@@DagenhamGilly Hi Gilly. That's the top of Dagenham Avenue where it joins Goresbrook Road. I was born at 211 Dagenham Avenue.

Back when we feed the ducks and no Romanians eating them . The old swimming pool and town shows . The smell of the heathway bakers and js Sainsbury’s Woolworths and later on blockbuster video. Ice cream man 99 and kids playing kurbzy our till late without worry Dagenham was the place I miss the old times 😅
