I recently bought myself a 2000 plate Rover 75 Club. It's the 1.8 K series engine (yep ... head gasket drama)

I used to be a Rover Technical Instructor based in Scotland. When Rover went down, they had just given me the latest T4 lite diagnostic suite and all the discs for all the models. I am still looking after the complete set including the hand held tester and all the Rave technical discs. Your Dad will remember those fondly 😂 The Autocourse course notes are still in my possession for some strange reason. Your Dad will remember those too. I used to enjoy taking technicians on factory tours to Longbridge. Happy days sadly missed.

The later KV6 2.5/2.0 both fit the 75 just right, very reliable though thirsty except for the rattling noise from the air intake manifold which is quite annoying. Pick a pre-project Conny SE for collection and it won’t be too wrong.

The grey coolant cap was only fitted to petrol cars for the first year or so of production. They were later changed to the black cap (higher pressure rating) that the diesel uses. This suggests that your car still has its original cap. The seals on the cap are known to flatten with age and cause coolant to leak past. You'll see a build up of coolant residue on top of the expansion tank if this is happening. Another common source of coolant leaks on the 1.8 is the inlet manifold gasket. These can cause an external leak down the outside of the engine, or in internal one resulting in rough running and white smoke out the exhaust.

Hi Jon..sounds as though it just needs a coolant change...new o rings on the expansion tank cap and bleed the system with the heater set to maximum..Best to change the cambelt and water pump too...Finally check the electric cooling fan works...they do fail...and bodywise make sure the rear suspension arms dont rust...the salt gets hold of them if u go out in winter....lovely video...thank you... ...Bob...Paignton......

That 75 was probably registered in Preston. I had a Triumph Acclaim (also built in Cowley) with BCK on the plate (BCK 142Y) and was affectionately named Becky II becuase a previous Acclaim with BEC on the plate was also called Becky. It may well have been sold by the same dealer (Dutton-Forshaw of Preston). The 75 continued to be built in China as the Roewe 750 until 2016. BMW put a lot of money into developing the 75 which caused them to make a loss. I would love to have a 75 on my own channel and a 1.8 saloon in Wedgewood Blue would be the 75 of choice for me.

When working at BT in the 80s, we didn't have problems, we had opportunities! I currently own (since April 2022) a Cowley built Rover 75 Classic SE, 1.8 k-Series, 80K miles (9K in my ownership), in Moonstone Green. Born 2 December 1999, registered April 2000 in Bury. I've fitted the Matt Dickins "dealer plates" like in your other video. Lagetha (the car) runs great, never overheats (touch wood). These Rover 75s were not received well in Australia l remember seeing one a lot it didn't move probably it was broken down typical for a British car l don't know what year but l do see plenty of Toyota Camerys around from the same years of the Rover 75 and the one l saw hadn't driven for a long time because the tyres were flat and it had spider webs on it and they sell at auction which is the only place they sell as with many classic cars do because private sellers are asking far to much for them although l have seen MGBs sell for around aud $15000 and couple other classic British cars sell for under aud $5000 getting back to the Rover 75 at auction between aud $1000 and $2000 and actually saw a Rover P4B sell at auction for aud $40000 l think the last decent Rover ever made as for my 27 year old Toyota Hilux ute bought it 5 years ago and the Hilux had 410000 it paid aud $1500 for it now worth $5000 and by the condition of the engine under the valve cover it had been well looked after regularly seviced and l have worked on it a lot and the only things l done to the 22R engine is replace the plugs and the valve cover gasket l have changed lots of parts under the bonnet and the rest of the ute a lot 27 year parts some that are not 27 years old and its a keeper also l live in a col de sac and l have had people knocking on my front door asking it was for sale which sometimes they do at dealers and private sales the sell quickly getting back to the Rover 75 l heard one of most hated car brands Kia wnd Hyundai that they used a Rover 75 engine that tells me a lot about a certain Rover 75 engine it wasn't very good after Kia and Hyundai's engines are rubbish none will last 400000 kilometres or 900000 kilometres l have seen two Toyota's sell with 980000 kilometres sell privately and one was a 2002 Toyota Corolla that took a bit of time to sell and the Corolla sold for aud $4600 and tbe other one was a 1997 Toyota Hilux and that sold quickly and it sold for aud $500 also in Australia there are Toyota's everywhere vut very few British cars ir European cars

Basically your Father is 100% correct Rover 75=BMW good cars though my uncle had the 2.5 V6 version brand new in the early 00s before they put the ugly facelift on it and it could cruise for 200 miles on motorways with no problem , also another thing why do modern cars chip so easy ? ive got a 2012 Hyundai i10 i know its a cheap small car but bye heck they used like the thinnest gauge sheet metal ever , an acorn fell off the tree where i was parked and now its got a dented bonnet LOL crazy stuff. £150 to repair the dent i was quoted madness.

Sunroof drain hoses runs down under the dash soaking carpets seats out and try and lift the carpet out completely soaked weighs a ton.
