When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (stylized in all caps) is the debut studio album by American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish. It was released on March 29, 2019, by Darkroom and Interscope Records in the US and Polydor Records in the UK. Eilish, aged 17 at the time of release, largely wrote the album with her brother Finneas O'Connell, who produced it at his small bedroom studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles. A Target exclusive green glow in the dark vinyl was released as well.

If there’s such a thing as someone truly being “born to do something” …Billie and finneas were 10000% born to make music. And it’s such a blessing that they had the privilege and support from their parents to make their dreams come true unlike so many people who have the chops but just never get the chance

Its honestly wild that so many people seem to think Finneas is holding Billie back as an artist, if anything his production style is one of the most interesting parts of her sound. Its so minimal and never competes too much with her voice, he seems really in tune with her progression and how she's maturing musically, I love what they did with her second album in particular. Great to see you both liked it, one of the best pop albums of the 2010s imo.

See my problem is I don't really see Billie growing musically from Happier Than Ever if she continues to work with Finneas. I want to see them both go off and pursue other projects with different collaborators. Plus Finneas' is a great producer but his style has become quite stale in recent years. Plus his solo album kinda blows so that might have something to do with the fact that people want to see the two of separated.

@@theboulderboulded5776 I mean it might be stale in that HTE wasn't as experimental as their first album, but the production was so smooth, it felt so good in my ear. However, I don't really like whatever mic they were using or how her voice sounded sometimes (not her voice itself, just the way it comes through the mic), but I'm guessing it's because they have to turn the volume up a little because she sings so delicately sometimes. But other than that, I think it sounded so good and mature. I do think bringing in someone occasionally to work in collaboration with Finneas on production could bring back some more experimentation that the first album had, but I think his production style is too intertwined with her sound and identity for her to completely separate from him.

The album is dark, sad, quirky, funny or just straight up terrifying at some parts. It's truly a body a work and the fact that this is billie's DEBUT album is so impressive

I get your sentiment completely and agree, I'd also consider Billie to be more alternative; Olivia Rodrigo may come to dominate the POP charts over Billie, but that is not Billie's lane, and I truly believe much of Billie's music will endure over time - seeing Billie sing Peggy Lee's Fever [July 27, 2022 at the Hollywood Bowl, SoCalLiveitLive channel - she also sings "Is That All There Is?" with Debby Harry of Blondie fame] or "Sally's Song" from the Nightmare Before Christmas [Nov. 1, 2021, VENOM channel youtube] - Billie is a phenomenon in my view.

There's "alternative" pop, "alternative" rock, "alternative" r&b, "alternative" metal, it seems more like a catch all-term used for something that dabbles in a more eclectic range of soundscapes than the absolute most run-of-the-mill examples of the genre.

This is such a masterpiece! Some insight: yes Finneas sings backing vocals on when the party is over. He just recently started to sing them at the shows as well, he did not use to. If you check out their show in Paris Rock en Seine you'll hear it. My strange addiction she incorparated these samples as she just looooves the office so much, there is a video of Rainn Wilson quizzing her on the Office. She was also on the office ladies podcast. For seeing even more how they recorded the album and some thoughts behind it i would recommend watchibg her documentary the world's a little blurry. It s so cool to see how they wrote and recorded this album in Finneas little bedroom, just sitting on a bed.

More than this. The backing song is based on the Michael Scarn Dance. If they didn't directly sample it, she recreated the song note for note

Finneas and Billy performed I LOVE YOU on Saturday Night Live. It was incredible. It's a fan favourite performance on tour too because they are on a bed, suspended above the stage and a giant full moon rises behind them. Magical. Definitely worth watching. She wrote this song for Tentation XXX, a musician she befriended and fell in love with who was shot and murdered on the street. Billy often cried when she performed it in the years closer to when he was killed.

I think she used The Office as a reference to the fact that she herself is a diehard Office fan, so it's her own "strange addiction." There's even a YT video of Rainn Wilson (Dwight) visiting her house and asking her very deeply specific questions about the show, and she pretty much nails all of them. Great video, guys!

I love your commentary on this album. I like your format of your views/commentary after every song, and I was happy to see you both not just listening but also enjoying the songs. Billie and Finneas make such a wonderful team and they truly compliment each other musically. Plus, I love the close relationship they have. I did hear them say in an interview that the knife (or sword) sound was derived from one day when they heard their Dad sharpening a knife in the kitchen and they thought it sounded so cool, (Which, it does!) so they wanted to use that sound in one of their songs. They're so exceptionally good at choosing sounds, words, etc, and knowing exactly where to put them. I'm amazed by them. Thank you for your review, I really enjoyed it. I do hope one day Billie watches this and you get to give her that poster. That's very sweet of you. 💖

Then you were new to music... Lana del rey,Lorde, Melanie Martinez all had similar style and they've done it earlier, not trying to take away Billie's credits,but... You should also not takeaway others.

@user-xv9rf2ll3m I wouldn't compare Lana, or Lorde, to Billie. Stylistically, that's like comparing apples to oranges. You could make a case for Melanie, but she never achieved the impact I would say Billie had.
