Love different and in general music, but if asked I would only really consider myself a fan of Musiq Soulchild. Neo Soul is so underrated. Never understood why "Dontchange" isn't the one wedding song

Back in the day I was crazy about his music. Juslisten is good interludes and all. I personally think it is better than his former although they are good.edited to add.. Half crazy was a great song but my faves are previous cats (shout out Eric Roberson) Mother father, religious. Check out Previous Cats...first then miss Philadelphia, then Just friends. I can guarantee that you will love those three. His songs tend to tell story’s that can be relatable.

Love that you guys are tapping into R&B. There’s an over-obsession sometimes with Reviewing Hip Hop/Rap Music and people don’t realize the R&B world is equally as vast and beautiful too, especially the classics.

Musiq's best song is "Love" in my opinion. It was initially meant to be called, "Lord" but he changed it to "Love" which had more universal appeal. With the video, it might bring Dad to tears!❤

Musiq Soulchild is another NeoSoul artist out of Philadelphia. He came up under The Roots, Jill Scott and that whole collective. He’s an amazing songwriter. I was blessed to have seen him perform before his big break at Black Lily.

MaryGoRound by Musiq Soulchild is a great song too. My fav. Wasn’t a single. But a standout on his first album. His first single is called Just Friends and he recorded it in his studio apt if I’m not mistaken. Great song as well.

Musiq Soulchild is sooooooo underrated!!!! I love his music. One of my favorites is off his first album called poparatzi. I love Start Over..So Beautiful...Love etc. He has so many!!!!

Love (arguably his biggest single), Teach me, Buddy and Better Man really show Musiq's range as an artist imo. He always has beautiful musical arrangements that you can just vibe with. He's from Philly, he's usually mentioned in the same conversation with Jill Scott and D'Angelo. Early 2000s neo soul/r&b.

Fave Musiq Soulchild is "Mary Go Round". You should check it out and "For Real" by Amel Larrieux if you haven't already.

i'm seeing a lot of really good requests from Musiq's catalog (Love, Dontchange, So Beautiful) but his first single, Just Friends, is one of my favorite songs of all time and it's story directly proceeds this song's story, a lot of his second album followed up on plots from songs in his first album. he's a great storyteller.

Wow, the setting is beautiful. You'll both love Musiq. The 1st CD was crazy. Erry track was fantastic. I still listen to it. This & Jill Scott came out in 2000. These 2 CD's & Outkast were on heavy rotation w/my friends/family. We had great memories from them.

Musiqsoulchild has a song called “Love” it is a gospel fused with neosoul song that your dad would love. You guys have to check out Maxwell “Woman’s Worth”/“Fortunate”, KEM “Love Calls”/“I Can’t Stop Loving You”, Bilal “Soul Sista”, and Raheem DeVaughn “You”/“Customer”. Maxwell is an artist to dive into tbh.

So happy to see this song covered. I requested it also and have been wanting to see what you thought of Musiq Soulchild. I believe this album was released in 2002 and he had one studio album previous to this one. I feel like when he came on the scene he was one of those artists who was just different at that time and he stood out (1st single "Just friends"). He covers some out of the box topics that you don't hear everyday in music. This is what I like about him, he's kind of like an intellectual Artist. He teeters that line between artistic and intellectual in my opinion. One of my favorite artists from this time. Other tracks, his first album is good, "Love" and "Just friends" were singles but "Mary go Round" also good. "Teachme", "GreatestLove" from some later albums also good. He has such a large body of work, these only scratch the surface. Still requesting India Arie "Ready for love". Nice review!

Definitely listen to him again and listen to “Love.” It’s such a beautiful song and it shows much more of his vocal agility and ability. What’s also interesting is after I did some research on the song “Love,” I read that the initial inspiration was God, with the lyric “love” changed to “Lord.” I can believe it because changing it gives the song a whole new dimension. Either way it’s beautiful and I think you guys should check it out!

I think his art is laid like that (melody that lays on top of the rhythm as you two stated) on purpose so we can zone into the lyrics. The story and conversation style of it is really good. Then he’ll slap us with a lovely riff to remind us he got the sauce. Then like you said next thing you’ve earwormed the chorus/vamps. Love these. Keep going! 🫶🏽

MusiqSoulchild is one of my absolute favorites. I got to see him in concert last year I believe. It was second time. He does not disappoint. He mentioned releasing new music last year, but I never got to hear it. It was supposed to be around March 2023. I believe my fiance and I heard him at a Valentine's Day concert with Joe and Lalah Hathaway. (Definitely check her out! She is the daughter to a great singer named Donny Hathaway. Your dad may have heard of him. Listen to Donny Hathaway- A Song For You) Anywho, Musiq Soulchild is an awesome neo soul singer and has more music that you might enjoy. His first album Aijuswanaseing is my favorite of his! However he still has good songs on his other albums. He did not disappointment in concert! Fun fact- I read somewhere or heard him say in an interview that he actually wanted to be a rapper, but someone at some point told him that he should be a singer.
