It's so nice to see a daughter being respectful and caring of her dad's money. I get tired of seeing the brides that are spoiled brats.
I love how she calls herself “obnoxious,” and then proceeds to put her family’s needs above her wants. Such great parents to say “whatever makes you happy,” and raise her to be so considerate❤

It’s kinda weird how things just naturally play out sometimes. My siblings and I were so spoiled growing up and honestly still are. But I’d rather live in a box than ask my dad for a dime and I’m beyond appreciative for everything he chooses to do for me. It’s never enough for my sister. She begs him to buy her this or buy her that. Please give her some money. Pay this bill. Fill her car up. Order her this. And she doesn’t feel an inkling of guilt about it. She thinks as her parent he should do those things for her. I guess it’s the difference between someone that thinks the world owes them and someone that thinks nobody owes them anything at all.
@katiegriffin7597

My parents always said, “you can be spoiled but not rotten.” Aka, they wanted to give me everything but not at the expense of teaching me values and being a good person. I wasn’t given things to shut me up and keep me out of their hair but rather because they loved me and wanted me to be happy. I think that makes a huge difference.
@abba9265

I think it’s a matter of teaching value. I was raised “spoiled” but I was also taught to be appreciative of the gifts or services I received. I understood the value of time and money early and tried to ask for as little as possible
@isabellind1292

@@katiegriffin7597 There's a difference between being spoiled and being given things and being grateful for it as is the case in this thread. It breaks my heart to read the comment from the sister who does appreciate what her parents have done for her while her sister takes advantage of their parents. It also breaks my heart when I hear adult children say their parents owe them an inheritance. Parents do not owe their adult children a darn thing! If I told my parents I was entitled to an inheritance I wouldn't blame them one bit if they spent every last penny before they died. I'd have it coming! My sister and & I weren't spoiled and we appreciated every thing our parents ever did for us. I think it helps to have good role models who aren't preoccupied w/material things and over-spending. I see lovely people in the comments in this thread and on this series. I think the majority are on the same page when it comes to being a loving, caring and empathetic human being towards others. I wish you all the very best and to the sister w/the spoiled sister, you will go through life w/a clear conscience because you are grateful for what you've been given. That is an admirable quality.💓🌺💓

IMO she's uncomfortable with, how much the gown is! I realize, that she said, "she's an obnoxious person". However on the contrary, she's thoughtful & considerate of her parents. It seems that, she's feeling guilty because, of how much, the gown is that she loves!! I don't consider that obnoxious!! I would say that she is considerate, & knows what she likes. Best wishes 🌿

I've been married 26 years. Married at age 22. I can tell you the wedding day is NOT the most important day of your life. It's fun and it's fun to look back on, but honestly, I barely remember it at this point. We've had many way more meaningful experiences since, not the least of which adding our babies to the family. I think the hype over the wedding is silly and just another way for businesses to make money. By all means, splurge on your wedding if you want, but don't build it up to be something it isn't or you'll only end up feeling deflated after. Be thankful for what it is and be prepared to move on to the next stage of life!

@@wandertreeExactly, especially when people divorce and marry several times in their lives then the wedding day is even less important as you have several of those days not just one.
I fear the guilt she feels will cause more harm/stress that could linger for life; she does his books; she knows the money flow, and the Mother said 'he can just sell . . .", means there isn't disposable income to meet the cost. I think the bride should have tried some more dresses in the 7 to 8000 dollar range, and the lady helping should have suggested that when she saw the severe guilt, but I realize the goal is to sell as high price a dress you can, over what's healthy for the family.

True love. They made my day. Daddy's girls are just so cherished and protected. Dad's will do any and everything, and when she doesn't have entitlement issues. She deserves even more. I felt like mom was going to buy the dress, regardless of what her daughter said lol
Job well done mom and dad - you raised a girl with clear prioritiies who cares about her family more than about a dress. It's super sweet for the parents to want to go the extra mile but it speaks to their quality as parents that their daughter cares for them just as much. I hate that she's feeling so troubled about it, but it speaks to being just good people all around.
A dad who said what her dad said about just wanting to make her happy, if he was my dad it would make me all the more determined to stay within the budget too, lovely family ❤

We gave our daughter and her fiancé a check, I thought was a fair amount, and when it was gone they paid the rest on their own. We offered more, but they wouldn’t hear of it. So proud of both of them.
I am sure they could have found her a dress she loved for less money, but still with a raised budget. Even the father said it was the best of what she had tried on, not necessarily the best they could do from the store inventory.
Why can't the consultant go up a thousand or even 500 at a time ? Why does she have to double the cost of the dress immediately ?

Something called "commission", 5% of that sale is at least $550.
WOW a real family!
there's nothing wrong with having champagne tastes on a beer budget, or with genuinely feeling like champagne should be the price of beer. she's not wrong, $11000 is an insane amount of money to pay for any dress, even a dress that blinged-out, but if she's going to stick to that ideal, she's gotta get creative. there are ways to get the pricey look without the price tag to match, but it's not going to be at kleinfeld's (or any bridal boutique).

This remind me of my own dad, such a supporting father who would sell his soul just so his child could get what they liked. He always used to say that i shouldn't worry because he had everything under control, he could work anything out. Its really great to see this same kind of love. For my 2nd wedding my mom found one for me at an antiques store in my size (which is rare as I was a size 18 then) She bought it and never told me how much it was. A few years after she died my dad was cleaning out some receipts and came across the ones for my dress and it was only $99! The dress was so beautiful that I thought it cost thousands! I think she was embarrassed to tell me how much it was as my first was so expensive. I loved her even more for it! I loved the dress! Unfortunately, we lost my dress in a house fire about 13 years ago.
