Last year we had to pay nearly £600 for 4 children because we was our flight was delayed and was 1 day late back to school after new years we even had proof about the delayed flight and the school said anybody can print things of the Internet and at the same time other kids in the same school was not back till a week later and they had no problems

Is college free in the UK? If so, it makes sense to receive a fine for missing so many days. If it’s not free, you’re being extorted…

It is free but you have to pay for the uniform and transport. Sad part is a full time course can be two and a half days a week, which is ridiculous

Some colleges charge a joining fee depending on age for administration and as others have said they say full time on course details these days and you only go 2 or 3 days and the rest off that’s not a full time course when I was at college full time was 4 days at college doing theory in the morning practical in the afternoon or other way around and 1 day at work placement not like these days when they finish at 12 and have loads of days off and lots of half terms

It's bloody pointless! I went on holiday in mid-September when it was much quieter and cheaper and when i got back my mum received an email saying she needed to pay £160! She is a single parent. It's just ridiculous. When i go back to school, one of the teachers is actually on holiday themselves and i asked them if they got a fine bc we did and they said no even though she took her kids with her who were in primary school! Absolutely ridiculous

Being a Canadian, I am not understanding what this fine is all about. Is it because a student doesn't attend classes? Here it's referred to as skipping classes and the onus is on the child itself to maintain marks to pass a course. No fines for that.

I must not understand the UK college system because there's no way a college fines a student just for missing days. It's the student's tuition, so if they don't go to class they're payin for an education for nothin... trust me I've been there but never a fine. The fine was £160.00 pound, that is $199.90 US dollars. But it's times two, one for each parent so £320.00 pound which is $399.78 dollars.
