As a fan who came from 2nd generation kpop I saw first hand how those idol groups failed to enter the american market. At the time DBSK were huge in japan and korea. When DBSK (5 members) split the 3 members became JYJ. They thought they still had huge popularity in the west so they booked a concert at the prudential center in NJ. Of course I attended along with other die hard DBSK/JYJ fans. They never sold out the venue. In fact only 1/3 of the entire venue was sold and the idols in person didn't even interact with the fans in a good manner. They look at us like we were crazy fanatics. I just remember because of that experience I never listened to them again even tho I had been a supporting fan for 10 years already. I soon began leaving kpop entirely as I entered my mid 20s. This is when in 2015 I heard I Need U, an instant hit to my kpop ears so much so that I listened to it over 200 times while completely ignoring who the artist was. It was only in 2017 when BTS went to the billboards that I finally opened my eyes to them and gave them a chance because their performances were unlike anything I've seen until that point plus the way they treated their fans was on an intimate level. I instantly felt a connection to them all and stuck by their side ever since. I've never regretted becoming a fan of BTS, I always have huge pride that I listen to their music. I ended up returning back to university because of a song Suga wrote (So Far Away) and now I'm a proud graduate of biomedical sciences and a loving ARMY at the age of 31 =D

Taemin and Jimin did these Tiktoks together; JK was out with his Idol friends group TXT did talk in an interview during one of their album drops how certain TS members treat them/take care of them like especially Suga, J-Hope & Jimin - but also RM offering help to Soobin. What boracity forgets is that BTS hasn't been on award shows in general much since the end of 2019/2020. (also Covid and pre-recording) They are also not on the weekly Idol shows and if they are they tend to pre-record. So we don't see them in public so often with other Idols. That and there is a difference with the friends circle of the rapline and the vocalline. Jin also proved that he had (non-famous) friends from before shortly before (?) his military service.

The main thing that does separate BTS is that they are not a traditional idol group. They are 💯 original. They were always encouraged to write their own songs and make their own messages. Idol groups just dont do that. They ARE cookie cutter. Sad but true. Now other groups say "we write music too" to try to convince others. You can't duplicate talent, charisma and humility. That's what sets BTS apart.

It’s really fandoms, media, etc. BTS is friends with several artists-some have their “line” (birth year~ ‘95-line, ‘97-line, etc) friends. They’ve gotten bolder over the years-showing themselves with those outside friends, at random. JK is especially bold about this! When SUGA does SUCHWITA, his talk show, he made a safe space for his brothers to promote their solo work. But, then, he expanded it to a safe space for actors/idols to talk freely about things. SUGA is such an old soul~so much older and wiser than his 31 yrs. He invited the younger artists to be his friend/eat meals/come to his house/talk to him… because he understands the pressure they’re under. SUGA said, “I have two dreams, and one is to be an old, white-haired man still standing onstage and playing his guitar and singing, and the other is to become a licensed psychological therapist.” They’ve spent their career and were created to make music for healing. This would just be an extension of what he’s already done so far. 💜🥰💜🥰💜🥰💜🥰💜🥰💜🥰💜

Also BTS agency allow BTS to have the freedom to write their music, produce their own beats, to be creator. Even if someone else wrote a song for BTS they was always part of the writing especially RM, Suga and JHope. Other groups didn't have that freedom, they sang what others wrote for they and choreography their dance style someone else did that also.

In part this is true but Big bang/G-Dragon wrote music a lot, BAP I think wrote... Some of the solo singers wrote like BoA and IU Even Exo member write/wrote music/lyrics. Did the lyrics mean a lot? Not that I know of but than I'm far from an expert. But these days there are more Idols also known to write - especially from HYBE. Others include: Seventeen (from the beginning and before HYBE) or Stray Kids or (G)I-dle... I think the GP just did not know most of it - they did know BB - and thought them inauthentic: which: fair - a lot seems not to be that deep or more on the performance side But than most successfull music these days we know is not usually that deep either. What bothers me is that this Kpop label is weaponized to box BTS (and other Korean singers/groups) in and make them "niche" -- again... cuz they're not playing by the Western music industry rules either. And remember that one boyband Simon Cowell created? Forever in your mind (?) who claimed they were fans, but it still "had" to be an American or British (read: white) bb at the top of the charts? let's be real right now, BTS are a kpop group. That's their origin, that's the music they make, and that's what they promote themselves as. Their solo careers right now is another conversation like JK for example but bts are koreans who make music in korean and are apart of the industry. "K-pop" is not just groups who do pop music. It's an industry like Hollywood. That's like saying Michael Jackson isn't an american pop artist because he's popular everywhere around the world. I'm saying this as an army who has been a fan of BTS since 'save me'.

@@Sussanah26 BTS is a kpop group. Namjoon is a korean rapper, not a idol rapper. Jungkook is an international pop star. Agust D is also a korean rapper, not a kpop rapper. Jin is just a Kpop idol. So is V and Jimin. Jhope you can argue whether he's an idol rapper or real rapper but what I'm trying to say is, you but them all together as a group representing BTS and not their individual personas, they are a k-pop group. Look at Boy with Luv, it's a perfect example of them as BTS vs their individual personas because I truly think Yoongi as Agust D would never have that kind of rap but Suga WOULD. So I'm saying, BTS is a K-pop group.

Bts paved the way and it has been acknowledged by the pioneers of kpop such as seo taiji and psy. Seo taiji are the pioneers of kpop, they were the first biggest kpop artist in South Korea, their lyrics held power and truth, I guess that due to this, seo taiji decided bts was going to be their successors, bts is similar to them as they were change makers and their lyrics held lots of power, also bts was the first Korean band able to break into the western market whereas second generation idols were only able to break into other Asian markets such as the Japanese one, after bts got big in the states, so many doors were opened for other kpop groups to enter the western market, now kpop is on billboards in nyc, you hear their music in stores around the world, kpop groups are always appearing on late night shows, etc.

BTS have ALWAYS spoken of other Kpop groups with respect, but sadly few other Kpop groups have done the same for BTS. Some even try to put them down by implication and without naming them, especially Blackpink. Personally I suspect that is driven by their companies controlling what they are ALLOWED to say so i dont blame those individuals. At the moment the Korean industry is trying to manoeuvre their artists to 'benefit' from BTS military service when they are unable to work outside the army duties. But rather amusingly, or sadly from their point of view, BTS prepared SO MUCH NEW MATERIAL that they are still dominating the world industry. And in addition, ARMYs are streaming the back catalogue so strongly that those songs also continue to dominate. Unfortunately (for Kpop) the 'other' companies sèem to not understand that if you want to make another band as big, you need to trust your artists and give them creative freedom. Some are starting to, and it may come, but there will not be another to compare with them for decades. And when they come, they will be completely different. They, too, will make their own way. Its the nature of this world.

When the video was paused you can see all of their facial expressions. All the guys understood what was said & that it was pure hate, not something "funny". It was their first red carpet event!! Hate IS hate no matter how cute you try & dress it up as. They did not deserve that after everything they already gone through!!! Despite this ignorant hatred, they will succeed anyway. Army all over the world will see to it. I wanna thank Boracity, the KZread channel who is narrating, for being brave enough to educate the world for clearer understanding & uniting instead of dividing the world. I also wanna thank both Army & Nesto as well. The more knowledge, light, & unconditional love we all (both individually & together) emanate into the world the smaller the shadows will be.

Stray Kids were recently accused of being robots but I think they were actually being very stoic considering the insults being hurled at them by the press. Several Stray Kids speak fluent English and some, like Felix have English as their first language. They knew exactly what was being said. Chan being a great leader simply removed them from the situation. Some people still hold racist views and just refuse to learn.

Boracity is amazing! She actually has a video answering your question at the end on why keep hating--at least for the kmedia and other labels, it's called "Why the Music Industry is Terrified of BTS" and "BTS vs Radio" I'm still trying to understand why the average citizen is hating... I would understand if they just said they don't like their music and moved on but they actually run hate trains and false smear campaigns.

Kinda late comment. I am newish but have done deep dives into BTS for 2+ years now. Early on i recognized that it was the early hardships that got them started, because they spent hours and hours communicating directly and honestly with the fans. They created their own TV shows because the industry would not invite them. They focused on the fanbase from the beginning.. BEFORE they debuted. Their songs are directed toward the fans and their messages are wholesome and much needed for today's youth. They respect and love the fans. They are honest and intimate.. in other words, yes they are talented and their performances are light years ahead of others... But they became so well loved because of their hearts and their inventive ways of getting around the industry norms.

I love how no matter how much the industry (Korean, American or International) despises their success, they have no choice but to include them and reward them when they have no choice. Still, whenever the chance occurs to belittle or shun them, they jump at the opportunity. What is sad is that the guys know that and it must be frustrating and disappointing. All that hard work just for people to try to slow their success down at all costs. And for what? Their precious power

@@garydemers3249 The industry acts like they love them but BTS and ARMY know what they're doing... They don't even try to hide it I have nothing against BP but knowing that they became the "First K-pop group with a MV that reached 2B views" is such BS. They don't even have 1/4th of BTS' popularity or achievements but a lot of their MVs have over 1B views and they even surpassed Dynamite in terms of views to reach over 2B views. While BTS gets millions of views deducted from their MVs *constantly* And Yoongi even referred to it jokingly one day saying "We have 600M hearts. You should take 10M away so it would be 590M."

it's absurd to think that even today they are seen as "aliens" by the music market... because they don't submit to the big labels... they are uncomfortable for this... but they are to be admired... unfortunately I think it's difficult for other groups to compete with them... because they are a group that built itself with capable people... who wanted to make it by sacrificing their adolescence... today everyone wants easy careers without study or commitment or sacrifice... superficiality is not enough... .content is needed and the 7 guys from BTS are an example....to follow..I love them 💜♾️🤟

For me I think that every generation paved the way in their own way. For example, 1st gen. were the ones that began the system and formed the base of what we know today. The 2nd gen. gaved the first step towards the global market, they had the hardship of going beyond Korea into a new territory where no one knew them. Even though they didnt make a big mark, they were known at some lvl. We have to take into account that during this time social media wasnt that normal as today. The 3rd gen. were the ones that finally had a spot in the US. and began to form the base. This is also thanks to the increase of people having access to social media and seeing what other countries had to offer, which helped them. The 4th and 5th are the ones beginning to build the house, I dont really known that much about these gen. What i do agree is that each group paved the way in some way for other groups. For example Shinee (2gen) were the ones that made it common to have a dance practice video. Big Bang (2nd gen) were the ones that had the first underground rapper, not someone that the company made a rapper because they didnt have a great vocal, the first lightstick was created by one of of their member. 2NE1 (2nd gen) were the ones that made the girl crush concept more popular, during that time girl groups were all either cute, sexy , innocent which was expected from them. BTS (3rd gen) paved the way as shown in the video. I am a fan of 2gen (Shinee, Big Bang, 2NE1, SNSD) and some 3rd gen groups (BTS, Mamamoo, AKMU) and some 4th (G-idle) and many solo artists

There is a Seo Taegi clip that features BTS at his concert, hip hop dancing etc. I also think Bang had a wider vision than the other companies. SM focuses on Japan You are right BTS is not average, they were allowed to create. SM their songs are given to him. Psy had a song and he pitched it to Scooter Braun. It was still different because the song style is not something that could have longevity in the US. He did reach BB #2 I think, but again an American was behind them. They understood that heifer about put your hands down.

Back then Kpop Entertainments only see the traditional Media like TV and Radio is the only means of promoting their artists, but BIGHIT started promoting BTS on YT before their debut,. Concept, BTS popularized the concept of having a mini story/theme through out their album, the MVs are continues stories, it's like the Fans are anticipating what's going to happen to the story if their Song/MV are released,. It's like waiting for the next episode of your favorite fantasy series 😅

Not only. Yes, R&B and Hiphop are major (!) stepping stones in K-pop but so are a ballads with the GP in SK and EDM & Pop. It's trickier in some genres to find the "original" and technically you could call all modern (at least from the 20th century) music genres connected to "Black music". I do think that J-Pop and J-Rock also had quiet interesting shows. Like most things it is complicated.

I think the last point is so important, bts is like our gen Beatles/ Michael ect it’s not that they are comparable but they are that “it” group that won’t happen again BUT that doesn’t mean others aren’t amazing and another group/ person will eventually be that “it” person/group. K-pop Stan’s always wanna compare charts, records, ect but just be happy with how successful the group is and stop comparing them to the “it” person/group. Everyone is successful in their own right. Hope this makes sense I’m kinda tired 😂 basically there will never be another Michael Jackson, Beatles or bts but their will be a next “..” and if they aren’t they are still successful.
