DA42-VI IFR Arrival and Landing Frankfurt Intl. in weather

Ойын-сауық

CBs, TS, RN, turbulence on arrival to Frankfurt's big international airport. ATC scrambles to accommodate all the avoids, maintain separation and still guide everyone to final. Lots of flights were held at their departure airports this day due to congestion.

I just want to address one point. A few people have indicated that they felt that I was taking undue risks by conducting this flight in this weather. They say this out of respectful concern, and I appreciate that concern. I need to make it clear however that, while I have not posted any videos of flights in this sort of conditions, I have conducted many flights in high pressure environments due to both weather and busy airspace. I was never during this flight in the least uncomfortable with my situation. I was completely in control at all times. I recognized what was going on from previous flights and had plentry of capacity to handle whatever might have come up. I would never conduct a flight where that was not the case. If you don't yourself fly a lot of IFR in IMC, it may seem like I was "on the edge", but that is not the case. I was, however, happy that I didn't have any passengers, because I don't think they would have found it very comfortable. I understand that. But for me, it was well within the envelope my experience enables me to handle. I do not encourage people to get themselves into situations they are not comfortable with, and I don't do that either.

Although you were busy I did not see this as taking undue risk. I would have flown it as well with the hardware you have, the situational awareness is just super. If it was my old Mooney with a strike finder and lagging Nexrad radar on a Garmin 430 I would have cut bait.

Thanks for this video - I think it is one of your best. It really demonstrates the workload for a single pilot IFR at a busy airport and the need to be on the ball. I'm thinking of doing my IFR training and I see the level of professionalism you need. I was really impressed by the approach controller's ability to adapt on the fly (pun) as well. More snaps than a pond full of crocodiles :-) Cheers and I hope the return trip was less intense.

Captain, Just a quick one, I could be wrong about what you thought you heard, but on short finals did you think the controller said 'Just keep your eyes on the runway' ? Real exciting video in the approach to EDDF! Any pilot can see, that you had been in coolness and control of the whole inflight situation. As I watch, I can see the great experience you have on this. It was exciting watching this and it was strong weather but you had a reasonable good plane and the experienced skills to do this. That is my opinion out of the video. Respect doing this but it was no out of control thing. So ignore the typical stupid comments on this I guess out of want to be professionals or semi professionals or some kind of unexpierienced people. Everybody in flight has to make his on decision how far to go and feel comfortable. Thats all to say about! And of course great job.

I thought you might be able to give some facts and figures since you fly/own one? The operational cost of the plane (maintenance, fuel, hanger, insurrence, etc...) and also when one purchases the plane how much would that cost etc... i am stuck with the idea of starting an airline company with one/more planes like DA42 in Scandinavia. havent looked into details though.
