I served in the US Army and was stationed in Phu Bai (which is northwest of DaNang) from 1970-72. I returned to Vietnam in January 2020 and stayed in DaNang. It was a completely different and prosperous country. I drove to the place where I was stationed and where some of the heaviest fighting of the war during the 1972 Easter Offensive occurred. 50 years later. Upon my return I saw complete regrowth from the devastation caused by the war, and it filled me with happiness. When I was in DaNang in 2020 it was just at the beginning of COVID and from your video it appears that COVID halted a lot of the building. Great video Gabi, keep it up, you do good work…

@@rijkie226 I only stayed in DaNang, I went to visit the area which I served which was 8 KM SW of Hue. DaNang is a very busy city and the Sea Shore Hotel is at the far end of the DaNang strip and much quieter. When I served I had only visited DaNang once and that was to the Airbase, which is now the Airport. 😁 The war museum in DaNang sure had a lot of our equipment on display, they earned it. I have much respect to those whom we fought against us, they were fighting for their country.

Vietnam is one of those countries where you get the best value for your money. I see tonnes of potential for Vietnam.
Danang looked so beautiful in this video, because Gabby has a very pleasant tone of voice, its very relaxing to watch the video. The beach looked so inviting.
A lot of digital nomads loved living in Da Nang because it's a modern city by the beach. Many had to leave against their will when Vietnam finally kicked them out near the end of covid and they were not happy about that. I think many want to come back, but Vietnam is only allowing 30 day visas (probably to keep people like them out as they were working there illegally and not paying taxes).
@ridewithgabi

Yes I heard about that. They “kicked them out” in a harsh way. For sure Da Nang is appealing for westerner. But their big strength is the Asian market.
@doodahgurlie
2 жыл бұрын
@@ridewithgabi I don't necessarily agree it's harsh. They were there mooching off the system and were lucky to get a reprieve for a year during covid. They could have gone home before the lockdown (which didn't happen for a while as Vietnam was still open when other countries shut down), but they wanted to stay because where else would they get such an inexpensive yet beautiful stay and not have to pay local income taxes?
@trhoades2063

They may not pay taxes in their income but they spend alot which goes towards the local economy be interesting to see what the govt has planned as hoi an is basically a ghost town now and tourism won't recover for sometime.

@@trhoades2063 There's a difference between tourists and digital nomads. I doubt Hoi An is full of digital nomads as tourists tend to flock there. Living in Vietnam is not the same as temporarily visiting Vietnam for a week or two.

@@doodahgurlie Penang, Thailand, Bali,... there are some alternatives (not counting Latin America and Southern Europe), though I agree that Da Nang is among the most appealing. Maybe the way to go is not to "kick them out", but to facilitate the bureaucracy and becoming a legal tax resident (at a reasonable tax rate)
I lived there during 2020,pretty awesome city! My favorite so far
Hi Gabi, thanks for the great video about Da Nang. I first went there in 2014 and it seems in such a short space of time there's been so much development. Unfortunately I only see a concrete jungle now next to a strip of sand. It seems to be the Vietnamese formula; a big highway next to the beach with a multitude of high rise buildings on the other side. Nha Trang is the same. The Vietnamese are into mass tourism and that's really what's going on in Da Nang. The reason why the beachside is so busy early in the morning is because all the Vietnamese go swimming before they go to work. It's the same story in the evening, they hit the beach enmasse at around 6 pm, once the heats gone out of the day. To get away from the crowds I usually go down to Non Nuoc Beach. Safe travels.
If I remember reading somewhere 70-80% of American soldiers first landed in Danang during the Vietnam war . With half a million US soldiers fought in Vietnam war, I'm sure their families and grandchildren will someday want to come back to this place just to see what's it all about through photos taken by their grandfathers ,.....
I from da nang , left da nang to US since 1990 never cone back since then and I'm shock with the changed . Can't even recognize the street , thanks for sharing

Most shops in Vietnam do well without going online.....so I'm sure there are more than 2 digital camera stores in the city .... ask the hotel staff, these people have connections, even if they don't know they will likely know someone who knows about places like these .....A lot of hobby shops in North America import digital devices from Vietnam rather than China for cheaper shipping
Wow, Da Nang looks amazing. And how cheap the hotels are. Thanks for posting. Can’t wait to see what next.

5:00am is beach time. Most of local people goes to THANH BINH beach 6:16 (Peaceful beach). Thanh Binh beach is within 15 minutes biking from city center.
Not just Da Nang. It's the heat that makes people don't wanna go out at day time. At night, there will be more people going out doing all sort of activities

I cannot believe you paid $25/night for such an awesome room with that view!! And I love that rooftop area with the gorgeous 360 view and the infinity pool. Viets are early morning risers so they are out and about around 5 AM then they hide from the sun (which is good for the white people as they have the beach to themselves to tan) and then they come out again in the late afternoon and evening.

Since you know first hand, do the amount of tourists ever show up to fill all those new hotels? To me it seems like Danang is mass building off speculation. I hope the beautiful waterfront isnt ruined by a plethora of 20% occupancy hotels

Maybe not at the moment. But very soon they will. As I mentioned in the video, I had to leave the first hotel because it was fully booked. Da Nang has a massive appeal for Asian Tourists. There are so many Koreans right now. And very soon Chinese, Japanese, Russians, Indians and westerners will come back. So I am sure those rooms will get filled.

I got extremely lucky with the weather. 10 full days like you see in the video. Blue Sky and sun. I saw that this area has only 3-4 days or rain during June/July. Fivitel is not so practical if you want to walk to the beach. Seashore is much better, or you have many other options.

I think "technically" you're supposed to register your drone, but nobody every does and most get by fine. Just don't fly it where you're not supposed to (i.e. military areas).
Da Nang is underwater now, due to massive rainstorms. Better wait until March 2023 if you want to visit.
