D22 Front Lokka Install and Diff Assembly

Recently my front differential failed and snapped the axle. In this video I remove and replace the diff centre and install my diff lock into my replacement diff. The diff lock used in this video is the Lokka from 4wd systems and is an auto locker. As you will see installation is very simple however attention to detail is necessary when checking tolerances when installing.
The Lokka is definitely one of my favourite modifications as it completely changes how the car behaves offroad and significantly improves capability without affecting on road drivability. I would definitely recommend installing a diff Lokka to the front diff of a d22 if you often 4x4 in situations where wheels are lifted off the ground.

    hey mate good vid, ive just ordered my front lokka for my d22 as ive managed to snap the left stub axle on the outside of the diff, this vid will come in handy when i go to tear down my diff, thanks alot

    Bom. Just bought a lokka for a wd21 but has no instructions... Could you Help me out with the orientation of the bushes/spacers índice ano the tolerância that need to be checked? Thanks

    Hey mate sorry for the late reply, I'd recommend contacting the manufacturers for a set of instructions. I would assume that the diffs from the d22 and the wd21 would be very similar if not identical however the tolerances are very tight and not something you want to take a guess at.

    Is that diff centre the same as in the rear of a D21 c200 diff? Ive heard they run the same ratio as the R200 would this be true? Where did you buy the locker centre from

    Hey mate bought the lokka from 4x4 systems. As for the diffs I believe the fronts in most D22s are R180 and the rear Diffs are C200, I think the petrol D22s had R200 in the front and people have swapped the entire diff into diesel D22s to get stronger gears in the front.

    Just a quicky, I just installed the lokka in the front the same as your video but I got it new/second hand without instruction so it's basically just slapped in with as much caution at possible but my question is, is the steering supposed to be hard when on hard surface ie concrete car park? Pretty sure I read somewhere it's not ideal on hard surface as there's room much friction on the wheels and strains the drive line? Any info would be great, cheers

    Hey mate, the lokka’s do change your steering and make it stiffer and harder to turn , however I keep my hubs unlocked all the time until I’m in 4x4 and it doesn’t affect driving. You will definitely be able to tell if you have forgotten to unlock your hubs. As for not using on hard surfaces, I try to follow their recommendation. So far though, it hasn’t broken anything driving shortly on hard surfaces

    Hi Bought one for my terrano but it cane without instructions... Assembly went fine,like you did on your but can get it to unlock... Even without the schims in the back of the gear to give it room it wont unlock by hand. Grabbing a tyre and trying to rotate the other wont it disengage?

    Id double check all your clearances from memory when I first installed mine I had a similar issue and it was that the shims were too thick and I had to shave them down. Not sure what would cause your issue if you have already taken them out.

    @Reubs Modification's thanks for the video. Purchased Lokka myself and about to install it. Not mechanically experienced to do it myself, but will take it to diff experts to only do Lokka install. I need to only remove and reinstall the axle and diff myself onto the car. Will watch your other video to learn :) Anyway, wondering if there is a way to switch this Lokka on/off when in 4x4 High mode? Obviously as you said, you lock/unlock the hubs, but unsure if my standard 4x4 High will be permanently changed to Lokka mode after this install? Hope it makes sense. Thanks mate. Cheers

    Hey mate the lokka will be active any time you are in 4x4 high or low ratio. This is the downside of the lokka however this did not affect me as anytime you have the car in 4x4 you usually benefit from having the diff locked. You will love it though the lokka makes such a difference to the nav

    @@ReubsModifications thanks mate. I saw your video how you installed the auto lokka, seems with some experience. Myself as a rookie, would not risk installing it myself for now. Got a truck diff experts who can do it for $300, but I still need to remove and reinstall the diff and get it to them. Haven't seen that you have a video of diff removal except the one where you upgraded the axle or similar. Read on forums that diff removal and reinstallation is more difficult than lokka installation. What are your thoughts on all of this? Thanks

    @@TheCvele1974 the lokka install is a little tricky and worth sending away to have done, $300 for the peace of mind sounds worth it. I don’t think the front diff is that difficult to remove, however it is heavy. I’d disconnect the drive shaft and CVs first, 4bolts on the shaft and 6 bolts on each CV (disconnect on the diff side not the wheel side). Disconnect the diff breather on the passenger side. Then drop the whole diff with the diff brackets (2 bolts either side) and you can seperate it once it’s out of the car. Could be worth a crack doing it yourself 👍🏻

    @@ReubsModifications thanks mate, appreciate your info. It's bit of a steep curve for me at this time. Will get a mechanic to take it off and put it back on, with lokka install. Quoted me just under $500 today. I will look at upgrading myself the wheel bearings, get into suspension, etc. Your latest videos on the D22 upgrade with injectors is cool mate. Pricey though. Looking forward to your future videos. Thanks again mate.

    @@TheCvele1974 that’s not too bad of a price considering the time involved 👍🏻 Plenty of jobs you can do to get more familiar with the nav, most of which are maintenance jobs like you’ve said. Thanks mate, the injectors was a big job and the parts weren’t cheap. They sorted the issue and won’t need to be changed for probably the rest of the cars life but it is still a bit of an investment 😂
