D11 Does a HILL CLIMB!! Sounds of a D11!!

While on a nearby property, one of the D11's does a quick detour and clears a road up a hill. Hope you enjoy the noise of the 3508 V8!

Watching this video has reminded me of something my dad once told me after coming back from a tour of the USA,where he had visited the caterpillar factory and was in their demonstration area where he had said that they had shown the majority of their equipment working and then out came the D11R and dropped the blade and started pushing, the blade went down about 4 feet into the ground and,his words “the bloody thing didn’t even change note”. He is dead now, but I can still hear him telling me about it.😢😢

I have about 5000 hours operating a D11R,that was one of the most dangerous jobs I ever done, sloping a vertical face that waiting to come down on a major road and some houses, normally I don’t like using a cat that big and heavy,on vertical work ,but that’s all we had available, the first initial cuts in the face were nerve wracking, being close 500’ up from the base,a kid on our crew took videos of me on the face, sent me the video it had paranoid by Black Sabbath as background music, pretty cool, that D11R is a beast👍

John Jordan: oh yes the D11 is one massively powerfull beast of an earth moving machine,,, that hill and moving that easy dirt was cake walk for it,,,out here in the rocky mountains of western USA where I live these beast get put to the test mining and road build,, and watching the kind of terrain they can work on and conquer with seeming ease with a good opperator is quite mind blowing.,,,,, especially when they drop their huge rippers on back,,,, and 2 of them work in tandem pulling it along through some extreemly rocky stuff bringing up boulders as big as pickup trucks darn near like it is nothing.,,, the big Komatsu's are massively impressive also.

@@HealthSupercharger seen them move bigger. The D11 is a beast. Big blade with decent sides comes in at about 40 cubic yards capacity possibly more from memory. Go download the specs, shipping weight alone is enough to scare you thats 86,000 lbs, operating weight with all fluids and blade and rippers near as dammit to 230,000 lbs 1 ripper shank is 19,000 lbs, and they can have up to 4

I did a spell at Hastings Deering in Brisbane working on Cats. First time I ever drove a dozer was a D11N, out of the workshop to the yard parking. Fun figuring it all out, especially the throttle pedal which was reversed to the normal. Up for fast, down for slow. Rocker switch direction, push button gears, mini switch steering. We got them in new and spec'd them up for the mines. 88 Tonnes of the ship, no cab or blade on. The ones I worked on were fitted with a single ripper.

I ran a D11N for years down here in our Coal Mine. If you've hardly ran a Dozer, The D11 (and D10's) can be quite intimidating but after a little while you get used to the size. Around here in our Area, the D7 was about as Big of a Tractor as Construction and Land Clearing guys used. After you've ran a D11 and got used to them, when you are told to get on a D7 , you ask "What the Heck am I supposed to do with THIS Little Thing?!?!". Man I miss running those D11's,LOL!

Not as steep, but my brother and i finished a generational project to flatten the lands using two D11. These are great beasts of burden, if you take care of them, they'll do you good. I've always wondered just how steep it could climb, and i guess i know now. We've never bothered with the little mountains, mostly on account of needing permits to modify that kind of a landscape, but ... this is encouraging.
