For anyone wondering how it works well its basically just a data storage like a DVD, the data is stored on magnetic tape inside the cassette. The D-VHS has capacity from standard 25GB to amazing 50GB so it could store 4k video just fine.

Lol that's just the ammount of capacity on a standard Blu-Ray, pretty amazing if you ask me! But I think, the reason this didn't take of, has to be the same reason why the DCC format (digital audio tapes) of Philips never took off: Instant Acces. CD, DVD and Blu-Ray gives you the ability to skip to a certain part, pretty fast. With tapes this always was a lot more difficult :-/ But still, I really like the tape format!! :-)

It actually was, SVHS/DVHS/DTHEATRE are BASICALLY the same format, slightest changes, like VHS TO VHS-HIFI. But SVHS and DVHS were designed to record, kind of like how VHS and Beta originally were for recording content, not playback of hollywood films, that's what Laserdisc was designed and marketed for.

I didn't even know that VHS tapes were even capable of digital video on par with Blu-Ray disc standards! There were, in fact, a couple lines from 'Regular Show': "VHS, the VH-Best," and "VHS. Can't tell the difference." And, with those kind of cassettes, the first one would be true in the case of most D-VHS cassettes, seeing as quality would have been on par with standard DVD discs. The second line would be true trying to compare Blu-Ray video to D-Theater, seeing as both output 1920x1080, as I've heard. But, then again, VHS tapes, in my own experience, were only standard definition with CD quality sound on a select number of them. I've never had a D-Theater player or tapes for one. I'm more partial to Blu-Ray Disc, myself.
