Daulatabad Fort, also known as Devagiri Fort, is located near (16 kms) Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad )in Maharashtra
1. History:
• The fort's history dates back to the 12th century when it was initially built by the Yadava dynasty as Devagiri Fort.
• In 1296, the fort was captured by Alauddin Khilji, the Sultan of Delhi, after a prolonged siege. He renamed it Daulatabad, signifying the "City of Prosperity."
2. Places Inside the fort:
• A prominent structure within the fort is the Chand Minar, a 64-meter tall tower built in the 15th century by Alauddin Bahman Shah.

3. Shift of Capital:
• Muhammad bin Tughlaq, the Sultan of Delhi, famously shifted his capital from Delhi to Daulatabad in 1327-1328. However, the experiment was not successful, and due to various reasons, including water scarcity, he had to shift the capital back to Delhi.
4. Later History:
• The Daulatabad fort was ruled by various rulers, including the Bahmani Sultanate, the Mughals, and the Nizam of Hyderabad.
