I wouldn't do all the frame stuff, I'd just have it as a place for the bees to build a nice colony in the nature reserve near me.

Little trick I learned from my Amish buddies it might be faster for you to lay the logs down and cut them in half if you got a big or powerful chainsaw. You could then carve them out good the way you want them build whatever you need on there and just screw it back together with your end plates or with a couple screws from the side that way you can always open it up to if you got it get right at something

Oh something else I found usually they use that lemon grass oil to attract a wild hive or queen they seem to like that lemon lime Walmart brand soda if I drink one of those and set it down when I’m done or whatever the honeybees seem to come and they’re all over that thing could probably pour some around a new hive or smear it on there or something set all your fresh empty cans out by your hives

Use vegetable oil in your saw when you do this.

Like this idea tho it seems like a good brood chamber with good thick wood to help the bees control temp

You know you could always cut the log in half and carve it out and then put it back together logs cut in half real easy when you cut them from the side not straight down. Amish showed me this and we were actually splitting logs like that faster than we could with the log splitter.

Just as I thought. Good idea! No laborious honeycomb like cuts and chiseling unwanted timber. Even the shoulders can be cut neatly to accommodate the Langstroth frames.

I intend doing just that. Yes, the log hive can be adapted to accommodate the frames, brood and super and adding more supers above the log hive is worth trying. Thanks buddy!

@@rsrawat1947 I would love to see your end result if you get this done I had kind of a bad year last year but I’m hoping to get some hives going here this spring my neighbor down the road probably had $100,000 Bee operation and he quit because they put in a GMO farm close and the bees die when they eat that corn. I have enough golden rod natural springs on my property I don’t use any chemicals here I’ve learned the proper ways of organics to actually battle bugs and things using simple stuff like molasses Or Yucca or kelp etc I always seem to find some bees that come here and build combs somewhere

Did these type of hives work out good for you? I got ton of maple trees down in my backyard and cut I'm thinking about making log traps and log hives everywhere. I got 100 acres here Love my Goldenrod honey. Game warden had bees around the corner and gave me a bunch. I'm hooked lol

+sciencemansandera Yes these log hives work very well. and by putting a super on top your able to harvest honey.

Why not hollow it out square instead of round so your frames fit right

Bacon Neggs my first thought is that there’s new research saying that round homes are much healthier for the bees than square. Square was designed more for the keeper’s convenience than the bees. I’m curious as to how the inside can keep with that round shape and still be workable.

You are not meant to put frames as that is not natural for bees

Cut it in half next time, hollow it out wood, glue and press, then screw. Easy peazy.

And no need for side doors if the top is open and you can even stack these

Do you have video of bees in the hives and log?

And we never got an update.

Take a log to sawmill cut 4 sides off, screw the 4 sides back together....boom hollow log

I have family up there, next time I visit them I'd love to see yalls bee yard. I'm just now getting into beekeeping and I find your inventions to be my kind of quirky style. I love them.
