D.I.Y: How We Built a Kayak Trailer From a Standard Utility Trailer
Since we need something to transport our heavy fleet of kayaks, we decided to build our own kayak trailer from a utility trailer. The best thing about this is that it can convert back to a utility trailer and vice versa. This kayak trailer can also convert to carry from 2 to at least 6 kayaks.

Hey Brad! That's awesome! We love our Crescents! Hopefully, we made your build a little bit easier. We might have made the spaces between the racks just a tiny bit smaller to give it a lower profile, but is nice and easy to slide them in this way. Best of luck on your build!

Thank you so much! Since the kayaks barely stick out past the end of the trailer, we haven't felt the need to add anything extra but now that you mention it, it probably wouldn't hurt to at least put a flag or something similar on the back.
I got the yacks. Hung them both up from the ceiling in my garage. That was yesterday. Today Its Snowing Probably will not get them out till summer.

Great build. Just one safety point here. Your fabricator did not wear a welding helmet in your video… NEVER, EVER do that. You will be blinded by the acr flash of welding. So if anyone is thinking of welding their own… this fabricator is closing his eye when he strikes the arc and welds, and that is a very, very dangerous method of welding. Although you can definetly weld your own rack with a little practice, just buy a helmet, Harbor freight, about thirty bucks.

@Jus Smith What the heck? Name calling for promoting safety? Welding Blindness is no joke, It certainly does not call for hatred and name calling. Your slander of my name is also indicative of a childish and hateful demeanor.

Great video, and this exactly what I had in mind to build. Your video has made my planning much easier. Only question I have and would like to see closer detail on is where and how the rack connects to the trailer. It looks like a slightly larger square tube welded to the trailer. 12 inch inner diameter of the tire (12" wheel). This is the trailer I bought too. I haven't built the kayak rack for it yet but someone shared this video with me so I'm hoping to do something similar to what they did here.

It’s not really DIY if you had a professional fabricator make the rack.

We did come up with the design, and anyone that has a welder and knows how to use it could definitely make this on their own. Nothing wrong with a lil outside help. 😎
From the title, I was hoping for some actual DIY ideas... as in do it YOURSELF. As opposed to hiring a welder, using retail kayak racks.
@LiveThatAdventure

Will if you have welding skills you can definitely do it yourself. You can also use pipe insulation foam on the bars and just strap the kayak to that. Boom.... Diy
