The instructions were clear and easy to follow, unfortunately, I tried them all and none worked. All my choices were grayed out. So, I've got a terrabyte unallocated drive for which I have no 'Rename' option. Frustrating.

@@marvello8684 well if u went to bios and didnt see your drive then its probably dead and u cant fix it, u can try to change sata or power cable if u r lucky it might fix it

After using photoshop for a while i noticed it was freezing a lot and my D Drive as maxed out at 100% and after that my D Drive just 'Disappeared'. Ever since, my D Drive would be showing in my file explorer but when i try to open something on it, the disk usage goes to 100% and the Drive disappears again. i got similar problem, i was using adobe premiere pro and when i did some editing, program suddenly freeze for a 10 seconds then worked normal. But when i try to open a Steam game, it showed that my D drive is missing. I disassembled the computer, removed the ssd then plugged back and it worked somehow. Now having the same problem, gonna do it again :(

My WinRE is missing have no clue to repair my computer, have nor recovery disk either, what to do?

what if it's not detected but when I reboot it is? could it be mother board issue? hard drive issue? one fan header is dead on the ASUS Z97-P, Socket-1150 motherboard. the PC was new in 2015. The D drive on my PC is a Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5", OS drive is a SSD Corsair SSD Force Series GS 240GB 2.5"

Tried all of the options and none worked. I don't have any unallocated drives, I just have one drive (hard drive) and my local drives D and E disappeared. What do I do?

All i had to do was to shut down my desktop, wait to shutdown completely, unplug it, hold down the power button to reset, plug power back up, power on & got my D drive back, :)

Me too. Apparently you have to take away the power and give it a few moments to think about the error of its ways 😀 The PC had been off for a few days, and before then I'd had it on continuously for about a week, and in the meantime there was a Win 10 update that went into action when I turned the PC on today. It seemed to take forever, and then it just went completely black screen for an even longer time (no hourglass, no cursor, no mouse, but the monitor's power lamp was still blue, indicating it was active). So I forced a reboot which appeared to be fine - until I discovered that my 1Tb D drive and all of my data simply weren't there. Disk Management showed C drive only and rescanning changed nothing. Two restarts changed nothing. Forcing shutdown and unplugging for about 10 seconds totally worked. You suggest the additional step of pressing the power button while still unplugged, and I've read about doing that (to "flush" the capacitors) and I didn't do this, but unplugging and waiting a bit (also recommended when rebooting your modem and router) worked fine for me.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. The first piece of advice was the best - don't panic! When Solution 1 didn't work, looked at the "system restore" panel. While looking around there, I noticed that my windows update was only partly completed. So I shut down my computer, let it update, and my 2 other hard drives returned. You are terrific!!!!!

Hi, i have a bit of weird problem here ( at least for me ). Whenever i open 1 certain game ( just say it game a ), it always start to responding after 5 - 10 minutes playing. And after force close it ( since after waiting for 20 minutes or so the game still stop responding ), my storage drive that i use to store all the said game files, except for the said game launcher that stored on drive C by default, also stop responding. And whenever i tried to shutting down my pc, it takes longer than usual for my PC to turn off ( around 10 minutes or so ). And here is the weird part. At first, i thought " dang....another faulty storage drive", but after i open a couple of musics, films, documents, even run another games that also stored on the very same storage, nothing happening. It run normally and i can shutting down like i usually do ( normally it takes only about 5 - 10 seconds to shutting down my pc )

Curious, but does downloading SVN/TortoiseSVN/WinMerge cause these issues by chance? I was able to troubleshoot and fix the problem. However I do not know why it happened.

Hi there, thank you for your question! I don’t think downloading SVN/TortoiseSVN/WinMerge would cause your D drive to go missing. These are software tools for version control and file comparison, not disk management. However, it is possible that some other program or process interfered with your drive settings or corrupted your file system.

I have a question. To those who were successful with step 1 does the rescan process tell you by any means that it is done scanning or not? Like some sort of announcement or declare so I know the rescan didn't work.

I was downloading a bunch of games on steam and the next day I come back to check on my pc and the drive is gone

🤔 What about virtual hard drive? I was attempting to calculate a parity drive in Storage Spaces with Virtual disks. I successfully created 2 VHDs through Diskman, but after creating a 3rd VHD I got an error and the VHDs no longer showed up in Diskman. The VHD file names still showed up on the host disk, but no longer shown in Diskman, Diskpart, or "This PC". Any idea what did/is happening? I never even made it to Storage Spaces.

Hi there, thank you for your question! One possible reason for this issue could be that the third VHD you created may have exceeded the maximum number of virtual disks that can be created on your system. Another possibility is that the third VHD may have caused a conflict with the other VHDs, causing them to disappear. Try to open Disk Management and check if the VHDs are listed there if they are, you can try to re-attach them. If they aren't listed try to create new VHDs with different names and attach them to see if they appear. you can try to use PowerShell to manage your virtual disks You can also use the Get-VirtualDisk cmdlet to retrieve information about your virtual disks and see if that provides any more information.

Hi, can anyone help? I downloaded the sims 4 onto my d drive and opened the game to play it. when I changed the in game settings to laptop mode the game froze up and then a little box with text popped up that was so pixeled i couldn't read it. i hit what i thought was okay or next and the game crashed and ever since my d drive has been missing, the game has also uninstalled itself and everything that was on the d drive has gone. none of the above suggestions work to fix it. pls help!

@@AceFade honestly I just restarted my laptop and it was fixed. But be careful cause I read some articles that said not to do that. It worked for me though so if you’re desperate it might be worth doing that. Good luck!

Hi there, thank you for your question! First, make sure you have entered the correct path to the Group Policy Editor. You can try opening it again and double-checking the path.If the path is correct and the error persists, you can try resetting the Group Policy settings to default. To do this, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type in the following command: RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy" After executing the command, restart your computer and try accessing the Group Policy Editor again.

What if the patrition is completely disappeared, not in any list? Like not in the disc management list at all? I got a message saying "intel rapid storage technology driver sata removed" and since then it is gone.

@@RecoveritDataRecoverySoftware well it escalated. I have an Asus laptop, in it an SSD with the system(windows) and a HDD for data. It is the HDD that seems to be faulty, but I am still not sure if it is Hardware or Software problem. Any time I try to open or copy a larger file, or larger ammount of files, or even if I try to do a virus scan or defragmentation on it, either the drive D: that is related to this HDD disappers completely, and I need to reset a BIOS option during a restart to bring it back... Or, now, sometimes it causes a Blue Screen of Death. A Diagnostics tool gives a "caution" label to the HDD. Checked and found a disconnected ribbon cable that was hard to put back, but will need to check for it again, problem still persists, it may just lost connection again. I am currently waiting for an external SSD to arrive, I will copy all I can on that, than may try to format the drive

Nothing works for me, I followed another tutorial wich told me to uninstall the drive if there was no updates available. Which I did, restarted my computer but now my drive is nowhere to be found... I am completely f****d and I don't know what to do. I NEED HELP

Hi there, thank you for your question! First try opening up Command Prompt as Administrator (press Win + X and choose “Command Prompt (Admin)” or “Windows PowerShell (Admin)" then type "diskpart" to open the DiskPart utility then type "list disk" to identify your external drive and select the disk with "select disk (drive letter)" then type "clean" then you should be able to create a new primary partition with create partition primary. Format the partition with NTFS using "format fs=ntfs quick" after that is completed assign the drive letter using assign letter=(your letter)" this should hopefully work remember this will erase all the data on the drive so make sure to create a backup before attempting to do this.

Thank you so much! Method 5 work for me. Glad that I was not that worried about my missing drive after changing my laptop from windows 10 32-bit to 64-bit.

my drive is gone completely it is plugged in and was working before i restarted to update, now its not in my device manager, i cant rescan for it, Unhiding doesnt work.

My external hard drive doesn't want to open it keeps saying "The device is not ready".

Hi there, thank you for your question! If you have tried all common methods to fix a connected but not appearing disk in File Explorer, there are a few other solutions to try. You can open Disk Management by typing "diskmgmt.msc" in the Run dialog box, right-click on the disk that is not showing up, select "Change Drive Letter and Paths", click "Add", and choose a drive letter that is not in use. Alternatively, you can use Command Prompt as an administrator and type "diskpart", then "list disk" to see all connected disks, identify the problematic disk, type "select disk X" (replace "X" with the disk number), "clean" to wipe the disk, "create partition primary" to create a new partition, and "assign letter=X" (replace "X" with the desired letter). Additionally, it is worth checking for hardware issues by trying a different USB port or cable, or connecting the disk to another computer to see if it appears there.

when i go to disk management i cant see my D disk there is only C and CD - ROM, nothing else. and nothing shows up when i rescan it, please help

IF you tried all the steps in the video make sure to check device manager to see if your disk appears otherwise make sure the hardware connection is still fine and everything is plugged in correctly then check in the bios to see if the C drive is detected if it isn't I would recommend taking it to a professional for further assistance.

Mine has been doing this recently. It also closes itself and the d drive disappears only to reappear later for a minute or so before once again vanishing. It's possible that it's an update that has bugs from windows.

Can anyone please help me out I'm unable to open my d drive when were i click d drive its saying "insert a disc" please help my drive is full of my family photos and my childhood photo.

Hi there, thank you for your question! This might be an issue with the drive itself failing I would recommend trying to replug in the drive and make sure it's connected correctly then try to update all the device drivers.If that doesn't work its most likely an issue with the drive itself so I would recommend trying data recovery software such as Recoverit to potentially recover your data from the drive.

I have 2 of 4 drives that come and go as they please in tandem. Replaced the power supply to no avail. new pc with 2 working old drives. can't be sata cable because they are individual, and were working on the old system. I'm at a loss.

None of that worked for me. I took the cover off of my Lenovo laptop and replaced the hard drive with a new one. It recognized that hard drive. I then swapped the original back in and that worked , but the drive was renamed from D: to F:

I also have a lenovo and having the same issues

My hard drives aren't showing up in disk manager or anything else except bios. When I first booted up the PC they showed up.

thank you soo much my drive has been gone for months and after this video i have gotten it back. thanks for making the video and keep up the good work.

Dang I try the 2nd one by restoring all of my files back and when it turn my computer back on my home screen is now grey and I can't see to see any of my tabs at the bottom of my desktop

Hi there, thank you for your question! I would recommend restarting your computer and then going into the windows Recovery environment then troubleshoot advanced options and then startup repair. If that doesn't work try unplugging the CMOS battery on your motherboard leave it out for 15 seconds then try putting it back in and then try restarting your computer.

tried all the methods but still unable to recover my HD 2TB, won't give up will keep looking for other options.

The system restore worked, but when i try to scan the drive it disappears again.
