There isn't much more to the story, they just met a few days prior and my boy, who was both had a baby face and very codependent and little-brother type due to his brother spoiling him his whole life, wandered off to try and buy something he couldn't afford. The conman of the group decided to save him from getting beat up by the store manager by apologizing for his son's behaviour, which was when my tiefling informed him he was 36, while conman's like 20, and the conman in shock said he thought he was 12. The conman also was shocked later to find out my tiefling had a full name and last name rather than just the diminutive he went by, assuming that "it was a goat thing", and the same player's new character later also discovered he was their healer and a boy instead of the blood obsessed warrior death goddess rumours apparently described him as (due to a particular incident involving a well placed wind wall and the party's general reputation). The entire party was also shocked when they found out he was supposedly proxy for his circle's god. Basically every time they learn something about him besides "he is a goat looking for his brother and grows flowers" they are apparently thrown for a loop lol.

Future DMs take notes of the party scene. It's really important to let your players relax from time to time whether its a party, local festival or traveling entertainers. Giving the players an open space to just let their characters hang out can lead to a lot of strong character moments that break up the seemingly constant battles and peril

Mn M well it depends on the characters, but I say you should always make sure they’re involved in some way, for example if a party is in their honor, or the npc one of them wants to seduce us there, or they came to the party to sneakily steal a mcguffin and it’d look to suspicious if they left immediately after. There’s a lot of possibilities to get your players involved with smaller less life threatening moments within the game, buuuuuut you do have to be careful of murder hobos, they can end up lessening the party guest list significantly and make this a battle to the death with the guards of the city

This is true! One of the best times my group had was when we were hanging out in a tavern and our elf rogue suggested we have a drinking contest. At first we weren't all sold on the idea, but after challenging my extremely competitive half-elf ranger, everybody joined in and it was awesome! Our goblin friend Smearnolf was our ref. Our tiefling warlock and Neko rogue tied and won about 8 gp each

samualwatkins na, my character constantly gets berated that she’s making stupid decisions and she’ll know better when she’s older. So next time it comes up she’s gonna say “That’s future me’s problem, after all she is smarter than I am.”

@@bionicdragon5 Player characters are totally the kind of people who would pull something like that and its safe to assume that an NPC that's kind of the "view of the future" when level twenty, would be down to do the same. After all, they probably spent most of their life doing crazy ass shit to get to that level. Hell, that guy might've been the one to help chain the tarrasque under the city, who knows (unless its been there for generations, I can't remember XD)

God. from 10:00 to 10:45 I was tearing up. Just, getting that respite, some happiness with friends. These moments are why I still listen to D&D campaigns. Even after suffering thru those "player-ruins-everything-back-to-square-one" moments.
