Kaipyro67ALT I killed an Elf Ranger with that attitude. He thought it was a good idea to attack a warg party before combat started. Epic battle on wagon ensued, he got speared in the guts and bleed out. The surviving orcs took his body back to camp and served it up in a stew. Rolled a nat20 on the orc who cooked him. That was some good elf stew.

Agreed. It's is a pain in the arse to run a session when the party splits. I mean, it's great for TPKing them if that's what you're looking to do; but not great for running a session.

Perfectly fits my very first D&D character. I even described him specifically as a "Scout" during his time in the army. Love that this made it in. Interesting that he mentioned the Assassin, since that is what my Rogue ended up being ^^

@@ericmunnisjr4763 ya definatly it's an awesome build and kobolds are one of my favorite classes to roleplay. I think of them kinda like senior citizens who can get away with anything in the party because they are old but in this case because they are just "dumb kobolds" lol

Hmm...I like the features, particularly the additional mobility. I'd even add the "Mobile" feat to further enhance their evasion...now "half speed" is 20ft, and they can stab or shoot with impunity.

You can always just google "Unearthed Arcana College of Whispers" and look at what the class does there. They'll change things for some of these, obviously, but the idea will be the same.

I actually really like this one, design team. Each feature isn't necessarily unique but are very impactful gameplay-wise. I am a bit worried that this archetype steps a bit into the ranger's territory, however. I, honestly, can't differentiate too much between a ranger without spells and a rogue: scout. A hunter ranger and a scout rogue are so similar mechanically that I worry the overlap is inevitable. In fact, considering the rogue's damage potential with the scaling double sneak attack feature of scout rogues, I think the hunter ranger will be completely overshadowed here. I mean should Legolas do 3d6+1d8+3d6+15 (Hunter's Mark, Colossus Slayer, TWF Shortswords considered) or 2d6+10d6+10d6+10 (two attacks with a shortsword, utilizing the scout's Sudden Strike feature). Supposing I've done my math correctly, I think the decision is clear. Still like the addition, guys, but I really didn't expect making rangers powerful by making them into rogues xD

The scout sounds fun. I might do a Ranger 1 / Scout 19. Yay!

why 1 in ranger wouldn't first lv in rouge neat more skills expertise? if you want longbow just pick up bracer of archery for the proficiency

I'm going rogue scout multiclassed into druid because ranger isn't giving me what I want but I still want to have that sort of character flavor

I've been playing a rogue scout, and almost NEVER use skirmisher, because it takes a reaction. A monster moves up and hits me, I use my reaction on uncanny dodge...so yay. If it misses, then I use my reaction, but at this level things only miss me about 40% of the time.

That's more or less what the Swashbuckler does with their fancy footwork

Regarding skirmisher, the book says 'when a creature ends is move in a square next to the Scout etc. So, an orc uses 10 of its 30 move to get near the Scout. The orc could hit the Scout and then finish it's move going another 20 feet away from the Scout . Therefore, it did NOT finish it's move next to the Scout who just got hit and did not react. What an I missing here. The text is pretty clear

The orc technically ended its movement next to the Scout. Still, the orc could move that 10 feet, trigger the Scout's skirmisher reaction, then proceed to chase them with another 15 feet of movement and then attack. I imagine an orc will be rather annoyed its quarry tried to flee like a bloody coward.

Kensei Monk got a revision even during the UA Arcana time. So even if the Monk is one of the classes who only get 2 new subclasses, Kensei is 99.9% one of them.

This is perfect for a Kololds

It's awesome that they got rid of that awful Fighter Scout subclass and moved it to Rogue.

With this, My wish for multiarchetype to be a thing (outside of like a "if your DM says yes" context) grows ever stronger. Extra sneak attack + assassination = Take out multiple targets during surprise round? Yes please. Need to be able to just walk up behind two unsuspecting enemies and drop em assassin's creed style.

How is this not just outright better than the ranger at everything? Free expertise in nature and survival, and rogues can't roll less than 10? Gets the movement, the combat or better than ranger. Far more survivable. Better at tracking. Animals? Ranger sucks with them. Ranger magic isn't very good either. Man. Really want to love the ranger. This whole subclass is such a slap in the face. Hope someone can point out something rangers, even UA, have on this thing.

Looking at playing a Rogue for the first time and this archetype is not bad by any means but the Survivalist feature is pretty weak. It ought to also give you a choice of having either a climbing or swimming speed equal to your normal movement. This would fold in nicely with Superior Mobility that you get at level 9. Otherwise the Scout seems rather blah at lower levels, which is what the majority of people are going to be playing it at anyway. This might step on the toes of the Thief's Second-Story Work feature a bit but frankly that needs improving too since it should include an advantage to stealth checks while climbing and adding *double* your dexterity modifier in feet to the distance you can leap with a running jump, as well as taking half damage from falls while conscious.

I mean bladesinger is a very fun class tbh. In regards to Wizards tho, I would recommend your DM takes a look at older books for more spells and removes the gold cost for scribing spells... Trust me, it makes the wizard a whole lot more fun and playable. C:

I... wasn't really talking about any of that, but... ok. Also, I'm the DM and we play Pathfinder. I think I only watch this videos for fun, and maybe porting anything cool to PF, if I see something.

I remember the Rogue UA Scout to be a little underwhelming, some good bits and pieces but other parts were fairly meh.

He's completely correct, that would be the worst to manage as a DM

How about a Monk 5/Druid 2? I move up, attack twice, make 2 saving throws, fall prone, bite. Then have the mobile feat or use step of the wind to get away without provoking attacks of opportunity and having a boost to speed to do so. In short, run up, knock you over, run away, rinse and repeat.

the skill "ambush master" should be buffed or changed. the one in UAC was better and even that was not fitting a scout or a 13th level ability.

Why make it a rogue sub class? All you had to do was give these abilities to the ranger, and take away the magic.

They made a magic-less ranger and it was unpopular. And the scout was always a combo of rogue and ranger. The ranger was already capable of a lot of what the scout can do, so it made more sense to add it to the rogue to allow people to play such a character if they wanted to.

I can make my Valas Hune ripoff now!

So you could say the Rogue has been given a Call of Duty, hehe

So far they are only describing reprints from the Unearthed Arcana. I hope it's something more fleshed out than that.

That is the whole point. The UA was playtest material designed "for playtesting" a concept. Now that they've gotten feedback and refined them they're talking about which ones made the final cut for official print and use in organized game play.

Jesus, the loner. In D&D. Great, just break up the parry that never slows down the game.

He fails to leave out the WORDING of Skirmisher ability. Which is: Starting at 3rd level, you are difficult to pin down during a fight. You can move up to half your speed as a reaction when an enemy ends its turn within 5 feet of you. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks. When an enemy ENDS ITS TURN within 5 feet of you. So he's trying to make it sound like "Oh he gets close and you move away as your reaction before he attacks". No. It will still hit you before you move making it no better than the feat. The feat in fact is better than this. This subclass is lackluster at BEST.
