    Unfortunately we were not given a Divine Rank for every single god, not even all human gods (gods revered by humans); though most of the popular ones did. This is why you won't see all gods from the Faerunian Pantheon on these 2 videos, we will however talk about the gods left out on Part 2 of this video and when we cover all gods in their own separate videos...we will make sure to have those as well. Also keep in mind that these rankings are for 3rd edition, and a lot has happened in the story within 3rd and 5th edition (what i believe is around 150 or so years in the story). Some gods have gone up or down in power, some dead gods have resurrected, etc. When we cover the gods in detail we will talk about those things. We are not planning on covering demigods, except for some extreme scenarios (by extreme i mean the extremely cool ones :D like Jergal and maybe the Red Knight) Also please consider helping us out with the Raid Shadow Legends Campaign! It really helps the channel out. Thanks to these sponsors we are getting, we are planning on upping a lot of the quality on these videos.     Illmater, the closest thing to Jesus you’ll find in D&D’s canon lore. Straight to the point that his holy symbol was what he was kill upon (it used to be a torture Rack and then WotC decided “nope… too dark for a good god”)

    The problem with having god-power based on worshipers is that realistically, gods of harvest, fertility and fortune and health would always be the most powerful. The most numerous of humans (or any species really) will always be peasants, and this is what they care about. A war-god may indeed be high in power, but their power would wane during peace time. A goddess of harvest and fertility (think Freja) would always be the undisputed, defacto lead deity in any settings. But in DND we regularly see the powerful gods to be deities that control time, space etc. Even in reality, where we find pantheons where the lead deity controls some lofty concept (like Norse with Odinn, Greek with Zeus etc) They are venerated for sure, but when it came down to it. the peasants actually PRAYED to, and actually worshipped the harvest ones. The common man doesn't even know what space IS. Time for him is the day to day struggle and making ends meet so he can feed his family.

    I do fully agree with you there, but I believe the idea of your domains in of itself give power as well. Plus the idea of someone giving more than a prayer, like sacrifices for instance.

    Reminds me of how the most prayed to Hellenistic deity was Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth, because that gave her a portfolio over things like house fires and your home's heating. But because she doesn't cover some lofty concept or have a melodramatic story, she's completely ignored by modern people. Since most people don't worship any of the Hellenistic deities, they just focus on the ones that draw their attention. Meanwhile, the people who actually prayed to them tended to pray based on things that were important to them. Like their house not catching fire.

    Two things count towards a gods power... The number of followers, and their devotion/fervour/zealotry. If the relationship between been fervour and the amount it fuels a god (god-fuel) was non-linear then it could easily overcome sheer numbers. (Now watch as I misuse the words exponential and logarithmic... But you'll get what I mean...) If there are 10 stages of worship (1 being a peasant praying for a good harvest and 10 being a 20th level cleric and literal avatar of the god) then it depends on how much god fuel the deity gets from each level. If it's 1-1 linear then you get Fervour = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 God fuel = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 And a 20th level cleric is worth as much as 10 farmers If the god fuel grows exponentially compared to the fervour then it's... Fervour = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 God Fuel = 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256, 512 And a 20th level cleric is worth as much as 512 farmers If it's logarithmic then you have Fervour = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 God fuel = 1, 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000, 1,000,000, 10,000,000, 100,000,000, 1,000,000,0000 And now your cleric is pumping out a billion dei-watts of Jesus juice. A super devout cleric being worth a billion peasants seems a bit ridiculous, but even if it was 500 peasants then agriculture gods would still have the numbers... But you see what I'm getting at, somewhere in the middle lies your answer, allowing zealous religious orders like Paladins to provide more power to their deities than the common masses.

    Isn’t it also based on the actual strength of the portfolio? For example say a god of a specific kind of weapon would be weaker than a god of weapons in general, as long as They have around the same Number of worshippers.

    @@the24thcolossusjustchillin39 There is generally a power boost when operating within ones area, but I’m not aware of it scaling with specificity (i.e. Nen from Hunter x Hunter) so a god of war is likely to beat a god of scribes in a fight between them, but a god of swords isn’t necessarily going to be stronger than a god of weapons so long as they are of the same rank.

    In Toril specifically, yes. In the greater D&D mythos though, absolutely not. For instance, greyhawk dragons do not have the religious civil war that Faerun's dragons did, and so revere deities freely, including bahamut and Tiamat. Bahamut (as Paladine) and Tiamat (as Takhisis) are also the two primary gods of Krynn. A case could be made that the Sovereign Host and Dark Six of Eberron also tie to Tiamat and Bahamut; especially as worshipepd by the dragons of Argonessen. Also fun fact; while metallic dragons have little issue revering Bahamut, Chromatic dragons are fairly reluctant to offer prayer to Tiamat; because doing so would make her aware of their treasure hordes. However, Tiamat also has more non-dragon followers than Bahamut. So they probably balance out that way... Unless you want to include Golarion and Earth; both of which *technically* exist in the WotC D&D universe. In Golarion, Bahamut is revered under the name of Apsu. Tiamat also exists but (weirdly) scorns any worship from Golarion (their offspring Dahak takes the "evil dragon stuff" prayers in Golarion.) On earth, a deity named Apsu was revered by the babylonains, and a semidivine being known as Bahamut is found in mythology; Tiamat also existed but never was worshipped, instead she was killed as part of the Sumerian creation myth. SO, with the way deities work in D&D? Kurtulmak is stronger than Tiamat or Bahamut *specifically in Toril* (though would probably present himself as a lower rank to either of htem, because of the kind of being Kurtulmak is) but both Tiamat and Bahamut are much stronger outside Realmspace; with Bahamut probably having hte upper hand, if only by a margin.

    @@TheRusty The Krynn gods are not multisphere dieties. Krynn is cut off in that sense, gods of Krynn has no power elsewhere, and foreign gods have no power there.

    Obviously Selune. The Moon ( _or any celestial body in general_ ) is influencing the water on a nearby celestial body with its gravity. At least more as the water is doing it the other way around.

    @@FreedomAndPeaceOnly In one of my (Pathfinder Campaign) I've made Eilistraee follower (not even cleric) and my party attacked her and just kiled her just for being drow... I was REALLY considering TPK that day.And something obvious, like Tiamath on her "casual flight" to get some snack.

    Im blown away by how illogical the system is. I know most dragons don't venerate them, but there's enough cultists of tiamat and paladins of bahamut in the current year to up them a bit, also I'm surprised extraplanar stuff doesn't affect ranks. Their Abeir and greyhawk statuses alone should give them a boost to the next status in toril. Also with their weird special permission to defy Ao's rule and walk the plane without losing immortality. Also also, goddamn Kurtlemak more powerful than Tiamat!?!?? That's crazy.

    I was surprised that Tharizdun was not mentioned then I remembered that his current predicament means he probably was not given a divine rank in any book. On the other hand, looking forward to Ghaunadaur in the next video (if he was given a divine rank, which I would not be surprised if he was not). Oh yeah and Ilmater's now my favorite "normal" god (the not-normal favorite one would be Ghaunadaur)

    Ilmater sounds like a nice guy but his domain is so pervertedly twisted. If I resign myself to respecting and praying to Ilmater its like I acknowledge that there will never be a world without people suffering like whipped victims. Like I have given up all hope and become a masochist to the conviction of suffering soon to close in on me.

    @@catalin2766 Believing this concept is necessary is like giving up after all. Some wishes are twisted by nature! No one can be a Hero, if he does not also wish for Injustice and peril to be present in his world. But the ultimate world, a paradise, a heaven - the ideal thing that everyone should at least always try to pursue, can never be reached with that. Well - Faeryn is not a heavenly world. Its just a material plane. Like Earth. With flaws and primitive rule of the fittest. Still - a Deity only waiting for people to be miserable... thats like waiting for Helm to fail as well, kinda. Expecting the negative like an inevitable fate can never be a good thing. Guess Ilmater being there is better than nothing but his need of being there in itself is very demonic. ;)

    Shaundakul used to be a demigod back in 2e so he is actually in the ascendancy. He’s been mostly active around Myth Dranor and actively been recruiting adventurers which caused him to gain a relative high strength due to the high fervour of those followers.

    That was a great video mr. Rexx I started playing Dungeons and Dragons back in the 80s I've always been more of a fan of second edition and first edition than the others but I've also always been a fan of the Forgotten Realms no matter what and the moon goddess whose name I cannot spell cuz I don't have any my game books handy as I'm a truck driver is always one of my most favorite deities I love the design of her Temple in waterdeep date

    Glad you went over Gond. I was looking for more information on him and get a better feel for the context of him. My reason is a recent character I put together. I made them an artificer but also decided to multi class them into a knowledge cleric. This was a god recommend for knowledge and fit the first tool proficiency I chose which was smith’s tools. I figured a follower of this god would be encouraged to pursue and understand crafts, particularly what an artificer brings to the table of a party. Of course, my artificer doesn’t stop there, how could they, more tool proficiency the better. Anyway, thanks for the lore!

    I just recently made a drow that was born on the surface, and my character ha been having dreams from Eilistraee. So I decided to go look her up to get more info and stumbled on your videos. Awesome to hear she's your favorite, and after learning more and more about her, I think I'm going to try to become a champion of her though my character is a male. Her goals are beautiful and in many ways reflect a true cause in our world today. To be a light to salvation for the damned, and those that feel their world does not need to be this way, especially for the drow that have never known a different way of life or that there even could be.

    I know you say that 20-30 minute videos are long, but I really enjoy videos in that range if there is enough lore to warrant the length. I'm sure its probably a lot of work on your end, but I just wanted to let you know I appreciate all these lore videos. Makes a lot of things clearer for those of use who haven't played older editions.

    Another tidbit about Azuth, god of spellcasting, back in 2nd edition, while playing in Forgotten Realms, I was alerted to the simularities between the god Azuth, and the gold dragon Nexus; including Azuth is (obviously) the god of spell casting and the dragon Nexus [according to the Realms Guide to Dragons] is thought of as the original dragon that developed dragon magic, which in turn was adapted by humanoids to form their magics; Furthermore the worship of Azuth had been started 600 years previously [in the timeline back in 2 ed], and the dragon Nexus [again, according to RGD] had only started dabbling in the affairs of mortals 600 years ago; Azuth was originaly a mortal that Mystara had elevated to being a god, and the most popular assumtion was that he used to be human, it is supposed that once he was the Magister of the age, but I think there are subtle hints that Azuth was once the gold dragon Nexus, and at times still holds the form.

    yeah it's funny, but it makes so much sense, there are like, a billion kobolds and all of them workship Kortulmak, while there way fewer dragons and almost none of them workship any god, and when they do, its not necessary Tiamat

    One of my favorite characters I ever played was a Blood Hunter who worshipped Ilmater. In my DM's setting the Blood Hunters as an organization was more akin to the Inquisition from Warhammer 40k, a shadowy organization with a ton of power, and who were willing to sacrifice as many people as it took to get the job done. He eventually left the Order after a particularly bad mission and started to take up Oath of Redemption Paladin (He came into this campaign as a backup character after a previous character I had been playing died to peer pressure and the deck of many things, so we were about 8th level at the time) And at that point he became an adventurer, his entire paladin oath driving him to be compassionate, to be the shield of those suffering, and to always at least offer the same chance at redemption he had received to any evildoer he fought. A big part of his faith to Ilmater was based around trying to actually help people, but also as a plea to help take away the pain of the guilt for the things he, and his comrades had done in the name of the Blood Hunters.

    I am still watching all the videos and ever since you started talking more about deities I've been hoping you would talk about Kelemvor, the god of death and the dead. Being one of, if not the most recent god added in the pantheons. He is completly diferent from what you would imagine from a god of death and I think this is just amazing. @MrRhexx, if you by any chance end up reading this, please talk about him, even if you just mention him in the next part it would mean a lot to me. Also, can still confirm all videos are great, good job.

    I assume there is a difference between "answers you" and "does exactly what you asked for," otherwise she'd probably be rank 20 for sure. So if you're bleeding out and pray for her help maybe the answer will just be something like "ok, I'm going to magically calm you and numb your pain, so this whole death thing isn't as horrible for you" rather than just making you immune to all mortal threats forever.

    @@TheSquareOnes or maybe something on the line of "you die but you can reincarnate into a spirit guardian that defend the adventurers that pass near where you die". One of the things that I really don't like is that there are no rule for the players to use npc magic, those spell like abilities that grant, for example, some monsters liar action. I think it would be really good if they created a rulement for like a wizard to consult an arcanaloth to create a custom spell or for a paladin to pray to a God to have momentarily powers, like in the Greek mythos where a lot of heros would save themselves just by asking a god

    A bit outdated i think. since the third edition ranking was done a lot has happened. Lot of the gods have died and come back and some gods have gotten upgrade and downgrades and some dead gods are even back i think. Also hahahaha Kurtulmak being more powerful than Tiamat. that's hilarious Irony. Yeah Kobolds are weak but at least they worship you and there is alot of em.

    Makes me sad my boy Pelor got was essentially removed from this edition. He's not mentioned in the book at all. He used to be a faerun god as well. There was a temple to him in waterdeep in the Nat19 campaign. No explanation is given, they just stop mentioning the sun god :( Still in Greyhawk though. That's something I guess.

    Um, Pelor was never a Forgoten Realms deity, the sun god was Lathendar the morning lord, you're refering to a bit of homebrew.

    Simply put: Her own people do not worship her. An overwhelmingly high number of her followers are Humans and other humanoid races. As for Bahumet, he doesn't ask for direct worship so his followers are all very casual amd don't offer much devotion.

    To be fair, isn't that what clerics and priests are? Door to door god vendors? Of course if more gods were as generous as Selune is, it would definitely help out their cause. It would be intersting to explore why more gods don't grant blessings as freely. Perhaps generosity draws the ire of opposing gods and puts your faithfull in more danger, so that while a god might help you, perhaps some followers of evil gods make it their job to "Punish" those who cry for help.

    Shaundakul is often overlooked, but according to Ed Greenwood, he saved many magic users during the Spell Plague. He also has had stepped on the toes of many deities, and got away with it. I think that even in the 2 Edition Pantheon book, it mentions that he killed a god or two during the Time of Troubles. He also has a unique worshiper alignment strip, going through all the Chaos Alignments (CG, CN, CE). He was a one time (possibly on an off again) lover of Selune. An interesting fact, his temple in Myth Dranor has a permanent avatar (of a sort) of his, yet not counting against the number of avatars he can control at a time. His favorite weapon for himself and clerics use Bows and Great swords. They get some Ranger abilities, and every so often, he shakes up his following, and turns them into mist forms, and they wind walk the day away, to be relocated in new locations. Honestly, he deserves some attention in 5th Edition, especially after Ed Greenwood's tweet about what happened to him. His history is very interesting.

    Umburlee, We were doing a pirate campaign in Saltmarsh and I made a deal with her. I'd do her a favor or two and she gave me a single wish. Me being a Tortle Pirate captain. I chose to become a Dragon Turtle at will. Only used it once but it was fun having that power up my sleeve.

    The best reason to follow a lesser ranked deity - they have fewer people asking them for things, so are more likely to hear your prayers. It is a balance - greater gods have these awesome abilities, but almost always ignore you.

    Great video, but I miss some fairly important gods of the Realms: Auril, Beshaba, Lovitar, Leira and Talona off the top of my head. All lesser gods I think, though Leira is supposed to have been murdered by Cyric at some point.. but with the goddess of illusion you newer know for sure hehe. Bhaal deserved a mention as he was god of death (but not the Dead) before those upstarts Cyric and Kelemvor, and a pretty iconic Faerunian intermediate power.

    You think you might be able to do a video about the Forgotten Realms god Garagos? He's always been a personal favorite of mine even though there's little info about him. Heck even his wiki is only about 4 paragraphs long. I'd just like to see more info about a more vicious human god of war. I always imagined Garagos is Ares to Tempus's Athena in terms of what aspects of war they exemplify.
