He makes the music"sing!" Amazing finger independence. Lyrical and great musical sense of style. A true and great artist.

i love this man. absolutely the best.

He was a beautiful artist! Small note- the second piece played here is a song by Chopin known as "the maidens wish" .... Transcribed for piano by Franz Liszt.... Wonderful to be able to see this... Thank you for posting!

This video is taken from 1986 Tavaszi Festival in Sopron, not his last public recital (in Nov 1989).

@EasyListeningLounge - I think this might be caused by a SECAM to PAL/NTSC video transfer. When I transferred French SECAM videos of famous French pianists to PAL in the early 1990s they used to end up in black and white, which was a pain in the b*tt, as I recall.

He was a genius and I think he played the best interpretations of Chopin's work. From when is this last recording?

A Chopin as I never heard. There is a Cziffred message here.

What a wonderful, wonderful musician! Remember what Horowitz had said: "I want to be Cziffra!"

That's not possible (Monte Carlo). He is talking to his audience in Hungarian and the audience obviously understands him.

This video was most likely shot in color, but the fact that it is now in B&W, may be the result of a SECAM to PAL/NTSC video transfer. When I transferred French SECAM videos of famous French pianists to PAL in the early 1990s, they always ended up in black and white, which was quite annoying as I recall. The French like to develop their own technology early on (Minitel, Secam, Airbus, Phonautograph, Baguette), but they don't always manage to set a global standard, unfortunately. Just like Canada with its square wheels! 😉

The piano looks like a Yahama. In Hungary, the piano would have been a Bosendorfer. His hair looks like somebody else's.

I went to two or three Cziffra concerts 50 years ago. Wonderful technique and very nice music. But after 5 minutes, boring. Without any emotion.
