CZ 452 Varmint at 100 yards.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

CZ 452 Varmint shooting Eley Match at a B-19c target at 100 yards.
The stock is a McMillan BR50 in the Carolina Flame color scheme.
Scope is a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20X40mm EFR Target
Not bedded into the stock just bolted in.
The factory trigger spring has been replaced with a Fastenal 160A spring.
The reduced the pull down to 12 ounces without creep.
It does not slam fire and passes a bump test of a rubber mallet to the tang of the action when it is out of the stock.
Ammunition is the Remington rebranded Eley Black box Match EPS flatnose
the center X ring on the B-19c target is 0.875 inches or 22.5 mm
Final measurements on the best group were 0.78 inches outside edge to outside edge including the lone flyer.
Subtract the bullet diameter, 0.223, for a center to center group distance of 0.557 inches.
0.557 inches divided by 1.047 inches per MOA gives us
Just a bit over 1/2 MOA @ 0.531 MOA
MOA is Minute Of Angle or 1/60 of a degree which is 1.047 inches at 100 yards
There are more sub MOA guns and ammo than there are sub MOA shooters. Everything has to work together, gun, ammo, rest, trigger puller and the Weather. Wind can ruin everything. It was dead calm when I shot this group as the Sun was setting behind cloudy skies. It will be very difficult to repeat this group. You can buy more ammo but cannot buy better weather unless you shoot indoors.
This last group was the culmination of over 250 shots fired that afternoon.
I started with cheap Aguila Pistol Match to get on the paper and the tried SK Standard +.
After not being too impressed with those groupings of about 2 inches I went to Wolf Match Extra and was consistently in the ten ring on a TQ-4 target. Ran out of TQ-4 and switched to the CMP B-19C for the last box of Eley Match. I was still making adjustments trying to find the dope as each time you change ammo you get a different velocity. The barrel also has to get accustomed to the new lubricant. When I got down to my last ten rounds left I just decided to shoot with the scope settings I had. They were just a tad high but straight down the middle. I knew the first shot was high when the trigger broke. The rest went right together. It was amazing watching them go into the same hole shot after shot. Flight time to 100 yards is about 0.29 seconds. If you ever played baseball or tennis or football you are used to reacting to things that quickly.
Hope you enjoy it and safe and fun shooting to everyone.
Tom.
Thank you for the concerns about my health.
Yes I was winded after walking 100 yards.
I had Bronchitis at the time.
Was trying hard not to cough while filming.
I don't smoke.
Walking 2-3 miles is no problem for me since I now do it twice a week.

So, you finally learned to squeeze the trigger. If you don’t remember that word, you will be destined to start pulling it again. The only group that matters is the last one. You can’t count the ones were you adjusted the scope for centering, you can count if compensating for windage and elevation. Great group!

Bought my 452 vVarmint back in 2012 , pillar bedded it , stripped the stock finish and oiled it. Out to 100 yds it’s a tack driver. Use standard velocity rounds bunnies don’t stand a chance, great little gun.

Great to see your success! I have a CZ American 452 and a 30 year old Brno that both shoot almost as good as yours, we're at 100 meters, and it's very pleasing indeed. I've even done very good 5 shot groups with Federal blue box 525. Now we are very limited to what's available here in NZ so we work with what we have.

Great shooting. I love my 452 and only shoot paper when checking for accuracy. The fluted barrel 17wsm is more consistent for hunting because wind doesn't effect it so much and wsm has more energy at 100 yards than the hmr has at the Barrell. Give wsm a try. Thanks

I did a really nice group at 50 yards with my Dad's old Win Model 69A with open sights, but was nothing like that. Wow. You should frame that target.

Junk ammo gets junk results. It just takes more distance than 10-25 yards to see the difference. I have shot some one hole 5 shot groups off of a better rest with this rifle at 50 yards using RWSR50 and Lapua Center-X. I recently obtained a rather rare Langley 2 ounce trigger for the CZ. I need to install it and get back to the range. I can shoot out to 50 yards behind my house and will be clearing some small saplings to make for a 100 yard range later this Fall once the leaves are down. Thanks for the compliment. Conditions were perfect that day. It was a quiet overcast with no wind and higher humidity. Later in the evening the storm hit.

I really would like to have a Brno 2E and a Model 4. The older Brno have some nicer features. Machined trigger guard instead of the bent strap steel. A nicer bolt with detent. Some are 12 groove barrels. Machined steel buttplate. Legacy rifles to be handed down for generations. I have a 452 Ultra Lux and a 452 American Tribal also. Gave my Stepdaughter a 452 Scout in factory pink stock. She is 24 now and has a daughter. Recently picked up a 452 Varmint in 17 HMR. It is a laser also. Son In Law got some 100 yard squirrel hits with it. His family had never heard of CZ rifles. They ridiculed him when he was aiming at a tree 100 yards away. When the squirrel dropped to the ground, their jaws dropped in amazement. Nikon Buckmaster 18X on that rifle.

I was amazed. The subsonic ammo at that range has a flight time of about 0.3 second. I was used to playing baseball as a kid and focusing on something like that was still possible for me. The lighting was just right and the Leupold scope amazingly allowed me to see the bullets disappear into the same hole. That has never happened to me before. I just got a new 2 oz trigger made by John Langley for this rifle. Still need to install it.

I bought a CZ455 American 3 barrel combo(22lr, 22mag, 17hmr). I Bought a CZ 20 inch bull barrel, replaced the stock with a Boyd's Varmint/Tacticool. DIP trigger spring, DIP firing pin spring, DIP aluminium mag well, Burris Fullfield 4.5-14x50 scope and a Winchester bipod. With Eley match ammo I print half an inch at 50 metres and I'm talking 10 shots. CZ and Eley match are a dream made in heaven. Not to mention the scope! That reticle is so fine it is beyond comparison. If you like super thin reticles then the Burris rules. Also my front bag on my Caldwell tripod rest broke so I chucked the Winchester bipod on. Wow it was so much steadier that I will no longer use anything else. I actually started the days shoot using cheap Winchester subsonic 42 grain ammo and was really down about the 4 inch groups I was printing. Luckily a bench rest shooter next to me saw my plight and offered some of his Eley match to try, I bought the box off him and will not use anything else again!

That is an excellent result with a .22lr at 100 yards. Both targets are very good with no flyers in a 20 shot string. The .22 rimfire cartridge has scarcely changed in 150 years, Abraham Lincoln would have been quite familiar with it, you can't compare a .22lr group with a centrefire group, they are different animals.

Do you have anything done to the trigger? The cheap YoDave Trigger kit helped mine out a bit. I wonder if they will ever produce Match ammo for the .17 instead of just the hunting loads... then I might get closer to ya;~) Gives me some new motivation to tinker with my setup a little more. • @supertruckertom

    @supertruckertom

    8 жыл бұрын

+Jamie S You are paying for the additional lot testing that comes with the Tennex. So you are getting a more accurate sample of the expected performance. The lot sizes of the match are bigger and within a lot of Match ammo you may have a case or two that are just as good as Tennex for consistent velocity but they fell between sampling and testing intervals for Match so were not marked as a higher grade Tennex. Regression to the mean is really what we are fighting when we are trying for ultimate accuracy. This group could be a statistical outlier due to the variables involved. The ISSF Prone shooters and the Rimfire benchrest shooters are the fanatics when it comes to accuracy. they will bring different lots of ammo with different velocities for different weather conditions. How to read the Eley label here www.killoughshootingsports.com/index.php/howto/ List of different lots and velocities here from a US supplier www.killoughshootingsports.com/index.php/zanders-list/eley-match-22lr-ammunition.html GO up to the Zanders list to get to the Tennex here www.killoughshootingsports.com/index.php/zanders-list/eley-tenex-22lr-ammunition.html Zanders is the master warehouse for Eley in the USA that distributes to other resellers like Killoughs. Killoughs is one of the few that show the complete lot numbers and allow you to choose. Killoughs is a high end bench rest supplier.

Try weighing the match rounds and grouping them into weight lots. There will be very slight variations in the weight of the rounds. Wether this is because of projectile, primer compound, powder variation or a mix of some or all of the above is hard to say but in theory you should get better consistency.

Jamie S There are lot of thing still unknown , I was the team coach for 2014 world championship IMSSU silhouette shooting in Check republic for team Sri Lanka We won 17 medals mix of gold silver and few bronze . Most of the Gold medals were won using Eley rifle match EPS, black box with flat and a small point on the bullet. Getting good accuracy is matching your 22 ammo with proper bedding and torque wrench . I have had good results with 4- 6 Newton on the stock bolts. In short it's like tuning a grand piano, when all comes right getting a sub 1/2 " inch is a walk in the park , little more care , more $$$$ on ammo one can take it a step further. Lots of dry fire repetition to begin with. Most importantly, each repetition is its own event not connected to the past. Your mind must be focused on that moment. No emotion, no doubt, no thinking. Just a straight smooth pull at the Respiratory pause. It will not be a conscious action. You will have done enough repetitions that it just happens when the sight picture settles. Good Natural Point of Aim will control the small amount of recoil and the sight picture should be stable. I was able to see the bullet for a spli second just before it went into the target. Flight time for a subsonic is .3 second. If you played baseball, cricket, tennis, lacrosse or similar sports your eyes can track an object like that. You will be able to feel the recoil and trigger pull and know instantly if you were on point of aim when the shot breaks. That is calling the shot. My issue in the first target was chasing the zero. Making adjustments to the scope every other shot. Go for a consistent group first, then adjust the scope to move the group center over the target center. I now just shoot sighters till itnis consistent, then adjust, confirm, then shoot for score. I like the A23/5 for that.

Big deal, your gun is regulated, hand picked/weighed pellets/slugs so very much more consistent than factory made .22 LR ammo! Compare apples to apples! Go back to watching air rifle videos...better yet, show us some of your fine shooting talents, LOL.

I bet you think that I accent the P in Potato also. I just picked up an Estate Consignment unfired 452 Varmint in 17HMR. I need to do a video with it.

@@JohnThreeTwelve I haven't shot it yet myself. My Son-in-Law took 10 squirrels with the 17HMR with it over the weekend. After splattering the first 3 with 17 grain Hornady VMax, he switched to CCI 20 grain fmj and saved the meat on the last 7. He took a couple of them at over 100 yards. It has a Nikon 4-16 Buckmaster side focus scope on it in factory CZ rings. 50 yard zero.

Half inch should be possible. A quarter will cover the last ten. A centerfire can one hole at 100 yards. So what are you shooting?

SuperTruckerTom excellent grouping for a .22lr at 100 yards. I think crisp is getting the bc of a .22lr at 0.15 confused with a .308 at 0.8 and above. for a .22lr this is outstanding at 100 yards. i shoot a cz452 lux, and usually stick to 50m due to the poor ballistics of the round. i doubt a Anschutz could do better.

Next day with decent weather I need to drive out and see if I can duplicate it. This time I will not be making adjustments in the middle of a string like I did with the larger group.
