MAN, Isn't it refreshing to work on the older cars? Simple, functional, efficient. I do wish that the newer stuff was like that. Now you spend half an hour just getting to the engine. Thanks Pete, I really appreciate how much you teach in your videos.

I love the 170 Pursuit engine , I have one in my XP Falcon Deluxe , which in America is a Murcury Comet . I have done over one Million miles in Ruby since my Father brought her brand new on the 11th of January 1966 , 5 months before I was born . Dad had her up to 420 000 miles when he died in 1992 and I have been around most of Australia with her and she has never broken down , not once . The only thing that will stop her in if she runs out of gasoline or gets a flat tyre . Go you good thing 👍

I have been away from watching your videos for a little while so I am enjoying catching up. Great to see you bought a 65 Mustang, because I recently picked up a 6 cyl 64.5 for an engine build with my 81 yo dad. He has never wrenched on a car or engine so it will be a fun project. I will use what I have learned from your engine build videos to build a 408 Clevor. I will need to upgrade the front end, rear axle, and 3spd manual to handle the big V8. I am looking forward to your 6 cyl rebuild this winter. Stay safe and healthy.

The carb that you took off the engine looks like the one that comes on a 250 six cylinder. I have one of those carbs on my six cylinder falcon and it runs great. That being said, I put 104 octane booster that is technically for off road vehicles only. The problem with carburetors these days isn't the carburetors themselves, but rather the ethanol that is put into modern gasoline. Not only does the ethanol cause the fuel to not want to ignite, it also eats away at gaskets. Other than that, great video.

Do you have any advice on having the intake machined to accept two 1-barrel carbs and have them positioned over intake port #2 and #5? My thinking is this would solve the "too rich" central ports and "too lean" end ports problem, but I don't know how much to reduce the cfm of each carb to keep the mixture where it belongs.

Couldnt you get a STOCK carb that fits the manifold and do away with the adapter? My Father had an early 60's Econoline I think it had the 170 with the 3 speed on the column...You really have to admit the early Mustang was a Falcon wit different sheet metal, what scares me about the Mustang is that gas tank arrangement

You may have already found an answer, but I have the same problem. Someone put in an aftermarket carb on a 65 Mustang I bought with a 200 six. Rough idle, so I found there was no heat riser from a hole in the exhaust manifold to the thermal choke inlet. Instead the choke is being held partway open by a ziptie! Arrrgh. Bought a tube with a brass connector, should have fit but didn't. Carb was made overseas...think I need a rebuilt Ford carb. (Edit) It's ok now, I drilled out both the choke housing inlet and the old choke tube that was broken in the exhaust manifold. I also had to drill through the phenolic spacer and into the manifold vacuum spacer so the vacuum would draw hot air into the choke housing. Smoother idle and no black smoke.
