Cylinder Head Carnage/Repair | Post-Crash 670cc Racing Mower

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ike flipped the 50 horsepower Predator 670cc racing lawn mower. Thankfully, he wasn't badly injured. The V twin on the other hand, did sustain damage. The gold hood scoop we made mounted to the head, and when the mower flipped and landed on the hood, it broke a pretty big piece of aluminum out of the head. In today's episode, we're taking a look at the engine, and repairing the damage with at TIG welder.

You guys should totally turn this thing into a gasser... Lift the front, put some spoked wheels or wheels similar to the drag rail on the front, a moon tank for fuel, wheelie bars, white wall the rears and black the centers, maybe make a rollover hoop and throw on a lap belt so you don't die if it rolls again, and then paint it the same colours as the drag rail and give it a nickname. I figure it'd be an awesome successor to both the rat rod wagon and the drag rail, and its just the right kinda of crazy for you guys :-)

I like this idea... Make it a Gasser and cage the driver.. It don't need to go fast per-say but make it sound mean.. A stock predator would suit it just fine. Take that to the sand dunes an have a bash with it.The thing is set up like Stubby Bob from road-kill. Also I'm glad you're ok Ike.

Even if they kept the rail engine and did drag runs with it, they could just make it a bit more stable. Lower the seating position a bit, move the rear axle back about 6 inches, and with drag rail style front wheels, add in heaps of castor like they did on the rail. I mean really, the only problem is the weight balance of it being too far rearward in relation to the rear axle. If they really wanted to go nuts it'd be quite possible to make a whole new chassis under in in the style of the rail or chop down the rail chassis since its bent and just mount the mower bodywork on top :-)

Mess with it a little and then shove it off in a corner to rot. I defended you guys and told the troll that this was a quality project and that you would definitely finish it and keep it in the fold. I guess the troll was right. FWIW...The mower was by far your sweetest build yet may it rest in peace. Damned to the scrapyard because of being scary. I think we need to start a new hashtag. #ikesgotballs Make it safer if possible but let's be completely honest here...I am not trying to disrespect the guys at all (my favorite channel!) but should they really have taken a mower chassis that fast on pavement with no safety gear beyond a helmet? The mower is not at fault and in and of itself is only as dangerous as the person driving allows it to be. All of us have to practice personal responsibility. In 2009 I ran a full season of lawn mower demolition derby. My modified mower ran 40 mph reliably and we were intentionally crashing into each other exactly like the cars do. Dumbest damn thing I ever did. It was fun and I still build engines for folks that want to derby and race mowers but I would NEVER do it again. I made it through a whole season without injury because I wore PPE and knew my limits. My point is that we all have to take responsibility for our own safety and know our limits. If the guys feel that they cannot ride the mower safely then so be it. I respect their decision but they have to own the fact that they were on pavement with no PPE and created the danger themselves. I believe they know that and would tell you in a heartbeat that it was their own fault.

I guess you had no epoxy? A high temp epoxy would have sealed it up nice! My hand is down!!! I don't think it will leak. Hot oil is difficult to stop. It may eventually get a oil film in that area! I have seen oilpans do it. Just a place dust sticks to on the weld. It would ta look e a million years to leak a pint. So, it'll be fine!!!!

+Ruby Dacherry, I assume you mean fixing the head? That shouldn't do anything to the performance at all. The engine would run with the hole in it... it would just leak very very badly. The only real issue with that hole was that it needs to be solid to contain the oil, nothing more nothing less. Now if combustion chamber of the head was cracked that would be an issue but if we take his word for it it looked good and the crack didn't get close to it. So it should still be pretty good just wouldn't win any beauty contests.

They didn't blow the engine, the torque converter belt got down into the rivets on the driven pulley, and caused everything to lock up. I've had that happen in my kart with a 420 predator. Definitely feels like a locked up engine when it happens though.
