    Very good info. From my personal experience a cyclone type 1, 2, or 3, is really not a big deal. Just a lot of clean up afterward. A class 4 is a different story. Out of curiosity, since most cyclones in Mauritius tend to hit east to west, have you noticed a difference in the damages on the east coast versus the west coast?

    First of all I hope you and your family are ok during the passage of Bilal. I was however wondering whether you could document this event and maybe let us know which area s of the island are least affected. Also what type of building structure seems to be mostly unaffected by this whether. I’m particularly interested to know these kind of things as I ‘m planning to move to Mauritius myself and in the region where I live there are no storms at all. I will pass by Mauritius myself during the first half of februari to investigate the island.

    I was in Mauritius during Cyclone Freddy... I booked into an apartment down in La Gaulette for Sunday thru to Wednesday (the cyclone hit Mauritius on the Monday). La Gaulette is in the South West and was well protected by the mountains of the Black River Gorges. It included a very short power failure. Tuesday, it was business as usual. In the following days, all round the Island, there was plenty of evidence that we had endured a bit of a blow. Who would have known that Freddy would have eventually become a record breaking cyclone, causing major loss of life throughout Mozambique and Malawi?

    Thanks Lucy - a lot of info in there which I think will be of use to those thinking of visiting or moving to Mauritius. I hope you and your family are safe and well. On the subject of electrical supply how stable is it and how long on average are the interruptions? Not necessarily during the cyclone season but in general?

  • @LucyLeheilleix

    @LucyLeheilleix

    Thanks for your comment. Sometimes there are interruptions for a day or so for maintenance. During cyclones, we once had 4 days of running a generator. Generally the supply is good here.
