Hi Jeff, thanks so much for posting the video. It's brought back happy memories of when I lived in the UK. We lived for some years near Barton on sea before moving to Romsey. I know much of your route and have cycled along many of the same paths. When we moved to Romsey we'd take the 4 of us in the car and park in Sandbanks then hop on the chain ferry and cycle into Swanage. Before the children we'd spent holidays camping at a basic campsite with our tent and know the town well. I remember in summer the long queues of cars waiting for the ferry but with me at the front, the two kids in the middle and mum at the rear we'd sail past all the waiting cars and catch the next ferry, joyous! I agree the majority of dedicated cycle tracks in France are smooth and well made and are now getting more use as the number of older people riding ebikes has vastly increased. Are you doing a follow up on the new bike and share your thoughts, especially about the gears? It's a lovely day so we're about to set off to cycle to St Gilles Croix de Vie and have a picnic. Keep posting and thanks again.

Thanks for the comments Colin. We spend very enjoyable time in Swanage since we have the small cottage there, and love simply walking around the coast there, and of course cycling in the area. I feel rather jealous of you cycling to St Gilles - we love that coastline and hope that we’ll be able to visit and cycle the bike paths. France is our very favourite place for cycling and of course the weather in your area is beautifully sunny a lot of the time. I hope you had a pleasant picnic, and that the wind where you are isn’t too cold. Here it feels remarkably chilly for the time of year. Have fun!

Yes, the ride was very enjoyable on that bike path through the forest, and the lanes were quiet too. I was taking the Koga Miyata down to Swanage to have it down there when we stay. I have the Oxford Bike Works one here in Reading for riding here, and for when we go away in the campervan. I’m now a lucky person with two very good bikes!

It was about 18kms to Basingstoke and then about 55km from Brockenhurst to Swanage. A relaxing ride.👍
