I think this is one of the most interesting episodes so far; Kino cycling so anxiously anticipating lions and other wild animals. Although its good to be safe than sorry, I think he was overcautious. Again it's doubtful you can stand the roar of a lion with a hunting knife. In normal circumstances, you may not encounter animals by day especially along a busy road. Predators are often inactive in such heat unless the animal is very hungry (such as an aged lion). Even the tsetse flies are mostly active at night. I guess what was biting Kino were imaginary tsetse (or other harmless insects).

My friend some advice please. Next time you pass through a park, carry with you a horn, trumpet, vuvuzela or something you can blow or squeeze to produce loud deafening sound to scare wild animals away in case you are in danger. Also a spray of chili water in a bottle can be of help. Very nice video though. Be careful in parks, don’t walk around or rest anywhere in a park.

yves.. in Oregon USA, they have a lot of cougars/ aka lions.. We put sleigh bells on our bikes to keep them away.. they do not like the sound, and it also let's them know you are in the area so you don't sneek up on a mama and babies.. With lions/panthers/cougars, you will never see them coming. they pounce from behind and grab you by the back of the neck, then they shake the victim to death.. I also carry bear spray and a loud airzound horn mounted on the handlebar... 114db. they do not like loud sounds.

Yea the whining of the ebike motor is probably more than enough to confuse a big cat, and make it leave. Bell is always a good idea for riding in the woods. Most animals don’t want anything to do with us, and would rather run away, than have to fight one of us.

The first time the big animals came drinking, I thought the house would fall, the roaring and trumpeting was crazy! To wade off insects ,I applied red ocre powder. I learnt to keep cool and show no fear, for all the dangerous animals lived around there. That was then,I wouldn't have the courage to repeat it now

It will slightly impair on aerodynamics but keep you cool, and with a good design, perhaps shield you from rain too. You may also be able to stop and have a quick snack in the shade of your canopy. You had the most dramatic net gear! I wonder what the locals thought about all that, but I guess tsetse flies are overrated. Good you've shown me that its a lot possible to pass through a game park. I always thought that I needed a very powerful supersonic rally bike to safely cross through
