Cycling the Entire Florida Keys in One Day

Congratulations on making it through! We always learn from our mistakes and hydration in that kind of heat and humidity is really key. That said, without a reason to ride to Key West to meet up with family as you had that looked like a truly grim route. For your next long ride, you might try a state that has hills and less traffic! And happy that Vivian is doing well again.

The glory of riding a century? Yes, I did it in an MS fundraiser ride. It's great to be a part of something larger than yourself, and the support and camaraderie were amazing. And my wife - my better half - reminds me of this feat. (I guess that's all I need.) But I'm not sure I need to ride another century. Man! That's a lot of miles! But then again ... PS I really enjoy the content.

Surviving a 100 mile ride is ok, but you survived doing it in Florida! Now that is definitely impressive. I’m a Canuck and start overheating at 70 F. I doubt I could do even a quarter of the distance you did in Florida weather. I almost blacked out at 60 miles on flat land when temps hit 70; I sat on the ground in the shade and still thought I was going to fall sideways as the black spots in my vision worsened. Craziest ride I’ve done is Haines Junction, Yukon, to Haines, Alaska. 148 miles. Up and over the mountain range and down to sea level. Beautiful scenery all the way especially at the higher elevations on the Yukon side. Got a van ride back to the Yukon though. Didn’t want to climb those mountains a second time within a week.

Previously, my longest ride was 50 miles. So I decided to go straight in and do 170 miles. At mile 100 I was knocked off my bike. Bruised arse, bent rear hanger, and a massive blood sugar dump due to the shock gave me low blood sugar for the rest of the ride. I completed it, and felt even more proud of finishing it due to those unforseen challenges. A couple of months later I did 204 miles. The only issue with that one was really, really sore feet due to shoes that were too narrow. It totally wrecked me for a week though 😂😂. Can't wait to try it with my new wide fit shoes.
