Cycling Eastern Thailand - Back on the Road! // A Bike Touring Short Film // Part 35 - Thailand
After more than three months off our bikes, we are finally on the road again, heading east towards Cambodia, Laos and beyond!
So join us, as our adventure around the world continues in this latest "vlog", and we show you just how easy and enjoyable cycling in Thailand can be.
Although we only cycled here for about a week, we actually spent almost two months in Thailand (mainly in Bangkok), and enjoyed having friends & relatives visit us and taking a little break from filming.
...therefore, we don't have any footage of our time in Bangkok, and this film isn't a cultural "deep-dive". But don't worry, we'll be back with a more in-depth film for Cambodia!
By the way, after looking at our footage again, we assume the guy from the detour was trying to tell us about wild elephants along the route...

Lousia and Tobi. I'm glad to see the two of you biking with your upper body protected from the sun, in your gray long sleeve Tee shirts. I'm not a doctor. I am a former wilderness guide who spent 30 years of my life leading backpacking trips, ocean kayak tours, canoe trips and bike trips. Now in my 80's I only do bike touring. The sun takes a physical toll on the body. The damage to the skin is cumulative and some of the damage will not show up until years later. It is important for anyone working in the sun or traveling by bike, hiking or on the water to get regular yearly or twice yearly checkup by a Dermatologist. Skin Cancer is dangerous and needs to be caught early. Covering the body is the best way to protect your skin as well as preventing dehydration. Don't forget to protect the eyes with sun glasses. Bikers remember being a Fashionista is not as important as protecting your health.
I am Thai who love cyclist . That guy tried to tell you guys that there would be wild elephants at shortcut route. I hope you will come to Thailand again. Enjoy your trip

Thank KZread for the most beautiful videos
It is nice to see the two of you are on bikes again making videos. I just left bangkok on jan 31st and I was in Chiang Mai cycling every day for the last 54 days. I am sorry to see that Tobi doesn't have his trusty guitar on the back of the bike. Best of luck and careful camping in Cambodia because it is very heavy mined in the north. cheers thanks again for sharing

Nice, green paddy field. Rubber trees were originally planted in the South for more than 100 years. For the past 30 years due to good price of raw rubber, the rubber tree growing spread to the East and Northeast of Thailand in some areas, but the yield is not as good as in the South which has plentiful rainfalls.
thanks nice video👍
Muy bonito❤
Have a safe trip
Been watching almost your video documentary. I really love it. Very inspiring and lovely. Please consider Philippines to visit and have it cycled. ❤
mmm Louisa said: "Three cycling days and two nights of wild camping." Perfect. I am so pleased to see you guys doing this. A sweet spot to stop at the end of this video. Just great. OK OK OK ~Not gonna lie~. I am now shopping Adventure Motorcycles. It's a Dutch Woman, Noraly Shoenmaker. Smart, straightforward and happy to take on the back roads ~ (like you guys). Course Noraly covers more ground, has 2.5 million subscribers, speaks Spanish and has charmed the continent of South America. (she may not know this.). Anyway maybe you too have "itchy boots." Also drone shots. If you can. Your activity sets an example for the world. Maybe other people will be "travelers" and that will help "economies." Thank you for this. 〰✨〰
Been missing your videos!
Great to see you back, and I agree, cycling in Thailand is fantastic.
Soil dog everywhere Ha Ha Ha. Welcome to Thailand. 13:06 He try to tell you that route cannot be used because it pass the area of wild elephant.
Very nice apartment that you had...

@@louisaandtobi great stuff! I lived and worked in NW China in the late 90s. Been back a few times since but never to cycle. Will be watching with interest. Stay safe and happy cycling!
Fortunately, a villager warned him to turn back because there were wild elephants ahead.🙂
14:30 I stayed there too
Have a save trip.
8:58 A sign on the side of the road says watch out for wild elephants 13:09 He said that there was an elephant ahead, which was dangerous

Would be beautiful 😊
Hello Luisa and Tobi, I was very happy that there was another video. There's a bit of a feeling of a fresh start. Before, you were so into cycling. That was really fanatical. Well then. I ALWAYS like Euro videos very, very much. So does this one. I wish you a good trip, Bernhard
I've watched you 2 travel through many different environments and situations and as a women I personally struggle the most with being able to wash myself each night. I am wondering how Louisa feels about this subject and how she maintains her comfort and hygiene without always having a shower accessible? Thank you for all your incredible content!
@louisaandtobi
Like with so many things on the road, it just takes some getting used to and often the thought of not being able to have a shower every day is worse than not actually showering. Of course, it's still important to keep a certain level of hygiene, so we often wash ourselves with a little bit of water / wipes when necessary. :)
Yellow guy tell u about elephant 😮😮😮
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i was watching one of your tool and accessories vids and saw no bear - dog spray. or is that why you sometimes have Lousia ride in front? enjoying your journeys happy trails

😅😅 We used to have pepper spray with us, but as some countries consider it a weapon, we got rid of it at some point.

Just how much trouble are all the soi dogs? There are so many and they are big on barking, but do you feel threatened. I would agree with some else’s comment about having spray if you can. What app are using for navigation? I see it’s not perfect, but good for main route planning? Thailand is lovely, glad you enjoyed your time there.
@louisaandtobi

@@davehoover8853 We felt like the dogs in Thailand (and now also in Cambodia) are more loud than aggressive. Having carried pepper spray for two years without using it, we feel fine now not having any. We use Komoot & Google Maps for navigation. Usually a mix of both works well, especially with the street view / satellite features of Google Maps. The lake in this video that blocked our route was actually visible on satellite, we just didn't check it in enough detail before. But both Komoot & Maps said there was a route through. 😅
Another great video. You say you're going to be back home in Germany in about 1 year. What are you going to do there? Anything will feel boring and tedious after your wonderful adventure...?

Awesome to see an Asia trek! I see Tobias is putting points into the aerodynamics skill tree 😆
@louisaandtobi
The man in yellow shirt was telling you not to go in to the forest because of 'chang' (like Beer Chang) elephants.
There are a lot of dogs, hopefully they don't follow you very far. I like the little motel, really cute. Did you have to treat water in Thailand ?
@louisaandtobi
Yea, we treated the water to be on the safe side. There are a lot of dogs, but many of them we actually found to be really alright. We didn't have any major issues.
Hey guys love your videos, are you planning to cycle back to Europe? And if so how are you going to approach the issues in Myanmar? I’m planing a trip doing a similar route from Singapore

I do hope you helped push her bike up on the bridges 😂😂 As she helped you 😂😂. Great to see you guys back 👍👍👍👍💪
Please come to Sri lanka
What was your route to the border, in particular, where are those limestone mountains near the motel?
@ 13:31 The man didn't let you go because you might run into some wild elephants. It's too dangerous.
I thought it was the wrong video at first; the haircut!
13.10 he said wild Elephant zone dangerous area and warning you to return
Just noticed that your English seemed to sound a bit different in this video! 😁... also what's your favorite Thai 'dish' or food?

That's hard to say... we had some great green curries in Thailand, but also great red ones. "Fried basil with pork" was also always good. And of course Pad Thai :D
Riding through central bangkok even for a pro cyclist is Russian roulette
You have clearly reduced your luggage and upgraded some gear. What's your route across Asia; the Silk Road, maybe?

We did, but it's only on our Patreon for members.
when you mentioned last year that you guys will touring through southeast asia after australia, i get excited cause maybe just maybe, you guys will start from indonesia, maybe start from bali. from logical perspective, its the closest from australia. mm... too bad you didn''t cycling through indonesia or at least malaysia. but yeah... i think i know the reason for that. it is mostly because traffic, right? yeah well, it is your journey, so wherever you guys go, i will still keep pray and watching you guys. wishing you health and good luck on the road. stay safe 👍👍

Actually, initially it was our plan to cycle from Bali, but as we stayed 2 extra months in Australia, but already had our hike in Nepal with our friends booked, we had to skip Indonesia / Malaysia. So we'll have to do it another time.
He told you that there're elephants, it is risky to ride on that route.

It would be easier if you take offline google translator when you talking to local.
I have cycled extensively in 2012 North Thailand Laos Cambodia and south Thailand. The landscape in south east Asia is amazing and also the people, BUT........ the main problem as you mentioned is the heat and the humidity. And Laos is the worst one because of the location:Very far from the ocean.... Disaster.... The best country is by far Thailand, But the best site (maybe anywhere on this planet) is Angkor Wat, Cambodia. And it's actually not so far by cycling from Bangkok... (about 5 days...) My strong advise to any cyclist, For leaving Bangkok just take a bus to start cycling on the countryside. Don't ride in the Bangkok!! It's horrible air polluted and very unsafe because of the heavy traffic. (also many drivers fill hourly their belly with "fuel".....) n.b I have noticed you bought new gear like cloths helmet and more. That's wonderful. Thailand is so cheap for cloths and other staff.... And of course The Food!!!!! n.b 2 It makes no sense to ride on dirt roads in Thailand. The countryside has plenty of paved asphalt roads almost anywhere and these roads are usually free of cars...

We visited Angkor a few days ago and it was very impressive, yea! Actually, we didn't find cycling out of Bangkok to be so bad, at least not compared to some other cities. There were a few bike lanes and the people drive fairly considerate in Thailand.
Tiger reported attack in area i think he motioned.
Confucius Say: Man who walk through airport turnstile sideways going to Bangkok.
Hoping not to offend you I must observe that if we could see more of the countryside and less of your faces, it would be good. I am referring to the close-ups. Longer shots of climbing, setting up tents etc are great. Oh, show us more food and describe it, and show up maps like Itchy Boots does. People hunger to see the countryside. Thanks.😊
you register, I respond
Looks like very prolific use of herbicides along some roadsides and on the rubber plantation--is that your observation as well?
You have missed such a beautiful country of Asia Srilanka the pearl of indian ocean
I want to meet you.. I'm your big fan... Please invite me as a friend to your country.. I'll also want to see your country.. please when you are coming to India inform me. 😊 #pritamthevlogger..
Kinda depressing to see these days people who can t leave home without wearing a stupid helmet or a mask.........
