Cycleboard Rover Review. Wouldn’t buy again.

Спорт

Hi there again. It’s your Simple Nobody again trying to help You, Somebody decide if you should buy this board. I go over some issues and concerns I have with this board and why I wouldn’t suggest buying it right now. I hope this helps. Please bare with the video seeing as I’m brand new to the review game. At one point I start to stop the video and then dive into a few more things. Instead of re-recording I decided to just roll with it.
If you like this video please like and comment. If you have any questions that I might be able to answer feel free to ask. Also check out my OneWheel GT review. Have a great day!

Hold down the up button I believe it will turn the tail light on for night driving. I used a garage door lube for mine. But 50 miles got my first flat tire in the rear that was no fun changing.

Sorry you're not quite pleased with yours. My wife and I bought a couple of Rovers ... WE LOVE THEM! Yeah there's a squeak or two, yeah the company sucks at communication, but most companies do now. I've got closer to 200 miles on mine now, most all on sidewalks and city streets, and for the most part both of our Rovers look and work like new. We go out on little tours of our smaller city, and every time we do it's like a vacation! It's the kind of fun you had as a kid, where you're just free and exploring (all smiles.) And if you encounter a dirt road or need to cut through the grass or whatever ... no problem. But we don't use ours for "off roading." You're going to wear them out much quicker on dirt trails. Bottom line: they were worth every cent. I will say you should practice for a month or two in a big, empty parking lot before hitting busy sidewalks or streets. Your tendency at fist, when heading towards a curb, parked car or obstacle is to "turn the handlebars" like you would on a bike. But the handlebars DON'T TURN. You have to lean to turn it, which just takes a while to get used to. I would say after two months though ... my wife and I are both experts, and feel at home on busy sidewalks or streets. Nothing's perfect. But if you've got the money ... get one. They're fun! (And no I'm not a sales affiliate, but probably should be. I would recommend a Rover to most anyone.)

I appreciate the input and watch. We have only road ours on the road but Pennsylvania has awful roads lol. We are at about 300 miles and the tires are wearing down quickly. I also have to balance the front tires again. They don’t seem to hold well for us. The grip tape is rolling up too. I would think if you have smooth ideal paths you’re probably good. But I just think they need to do a little to refine their product. I really wish they would come out with a V3 with input from the community to make it what it should be. They do have a good base product that just needs a little refinement. As for the customer service there is no excuse for that. I have been using a few other pevs and they are the absolute worst out of them all. And I believe they are a US based company so I expect more out of them. I’ve basically gave up on this company because of that. I’ll keep using it until it dies because I don’t think I’d get enough out of it if I tried to sell it, but I think there are definitely better options out there. ESPECIALLY if you don’t need the 3 wheel option.

Interesting review. First off, anything you purchase has a break-in period. RE: 'squeak', when did it first begin to 'squeak'? I would think a spray of grease would resolve that issue. How often do you ride it in the rain? RE: Tire Wear. The board has a considerable turn radius. Are your tires inflated to the correct PSI? Overinflating them will always result in them wearing out prematurely. How much do you weigh and what stance are you using when riding it? How quickly/sharp are your turns? What part of the world do you live in? Is is primary humid? Where is your board stored? A friend, who owns his own machine shop, finds this to be the most stable board on the market. I've owned one for over 3 years and love it. It has definitely been worth every penny. It's certainly not for everyone. Perhaps an e-bike is more your speed.

My wife and I have 2 boards and we are happy with them. I have 706 miles on mine and tires are ok. My grip tape did not last too long but I ordered some custom tape from Splattergoat for peanuts and it's holding up great (my wife's grip tape looks like new). No rattles. My only complaint is the brakes are kind of weak, though like you said, they will lock up the back tire if you squeeze hard and fast but I would expect that. I would buy again. I really do appreciate your video but it seemed a little nit picky at times.

I’m glad that you’ve had a good experience So far. But I don’t think it’s unfair to say that a $2500 board should arrive without any issues. And maybe I came across wrong. I want to love this board and I think if they improve upon their quality control that they can be one of the best companies. But they definitely have room for improvement and without someone calling them out (even for the small issues) they will not work to fix these things. Thanks for your comment and have a great day. And if you have time checkout my OneWheel review.

    1. I've never had an issue with their customer support. They are on the west coast, (you appear to live in NY based on license plates). To be fair, I contacted them via email and they got back to me the same business day opposed to your calling them directly. 2. Shocks are replaceable 3. They clearly indicate you steer it with your feet not the handlebars 4. Brake Light: per instructions "The tail light can be turned on by long-pressing the up arrow on the display when on the home screen. When the tail light is on it will stay solid red and flash rapidly when the brake handle is pulled" 5. Tire Balancing: As with a car, if you are constantly using the maximum speed, particularly on uneven/off road terrain, your tires will become unbalanced. Given the pitch/turn feature, like a vehicle, you should rotate your tires as this will contribute to the longevity of the life of your tire. In your video, you clearly run over a pothole/manhole, which one would clearly avoid on a 2 wheel e-scooter. RE: Tire Wear - The combined weight of the rover and the driver along with road conditions play an integral part in the life cycle of the tires. 6. Was this the original grip tape as I found mine began to curl a bit as a result of my washing it regularly. 7. My friends who are engineers love the grips as do I. You can adjust them, which may be necessary depending on your height. 8. Instructions included provide an explanation of every feature of the LCD display. 9. Throttle - if your thumb is slipping off the throttle, it's either too close/far from and needs to be adjusted as everyone's hand, (size, grip), is different. My rover is my primary means of transportation and I wouldn't trade it in for another e-scooter, (and I've test driven many). Sorry your experience hasn't been the same.

I’ve owned my rover for a while now so maybe they have improved their customer services. I’m glad you’ve had better experiences than I have. The shocks were not what I’m concerned about but the plate that holds them in place. And I’m 160lbs and I’m at about 275 miles and my front tires are very low on tread already. It isn’t the balancing because they are wearing evenly across the center. The battery and longevity of it is very impressive for the weight of the board. there is a few miles per hour drop in speed once you drop one bar on battery level. I personally based off of my experience would spend my money else where. I think for this cost you can find something better for the price unless you require the three wheels. That is actually why I went for this board was for my wife because she didn’t want to balance a scooter. And I think if they would come out with a V3 and make some small improvements: 1. Their own control screen instead of one that is meant for an E-bike, 2 figure out how to prevent the wear in that front plate, 3. Make the motor a little more powerful. I’d like to see it capable of at least 30 mph, 4. Use tires with a little harder compound so they last longer, 5. A key so we can lock this up and people still can’t turn it on and mess with it, then this board would be worth the money and be a top contender for almost anyone at any age. It would also be a perfect PEV for these scooter rental companies. I believe they have great potential just from my experiences they are not there yet. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comments. Stay safe out there.

Always good to compare with other products at the same price point. This is garage tech just looking at vs say the Segway GT2 or closer to price the GT1. Of not those aren’t three wheel but your review brings out a fundamental aspect not considered which is the one wheel into a dip torquing. I wanted to like this but poor customer support plus the quality control at that price point. Nope.

Thank you for making this video. I am interested in hearing more about riding experience. It honestly looks like a hoot to ride. Any change on your opinion now that 7 months have passed and has it grown on you? Ever "borrow" it from your wife or is it Onewheel every day all day, lol?

Thanks for the comment and watching. It’s funny, riding this thing I’m actually more comfortable riding the OneWheel or Meepo Hurricane Ultra but that is probably all because I ride them so much more. And when I say comfortable I mean more fun and enjoyable to ride. This thing doesn’t handle the bumps all that great in my opinion for how much suspension is built into it. It could be because of the weight of this thing compared to the others. This guy is a heavy boy. In the colder months I haven’t really ridden it much and my wife hates the cold so she hasn’t been on it either lol. It is however a very stable ride. My wife will ride thing thing but will never get on the OneWheel or electric skateboard. Now that the weather is starting to turn for the warmer I will try to get some more miles on this and do an update in the future. But overall the riding experience is fun despite the QC issues when I first got it. I do still have some concerns about the overall longevity of the board but time and miles will tell. I hope this helps.

@@bleedsblue05esk8 I really appreciate the info! I've been eyeballing the Rover for the longest time. I started out on esk8, then Onewheel, then EUCs. I personally don’t. I’d like to get into reviewing more things like this but I’m paying for it all out of pocket and I’m not a rich man lol. This board would have promise for something like that. I’d check out the Cycleboard Facebook group. Some people love their boards but I’ve been seeing a lot of issues and hate recently. Honestly it seems hit or miss on if you’ll get a board without issues. If you were lucky enough to get a good one and aren’t going to be going full speed all the time you might be okay for what you’re looking for. Mine works fine but I have serious concerns over the longevity of the board. I take it to work and ride it off road and it doesn’t absorb the bumps as good as you’d think. And especially those front shocks I show in my video. I think it’s only a matter of time before that becomes a failure point. I don’t know if that really helps you.

It is more stable up to a certain speed. But I and my wife had have it kind of rocking back and forth a few times and I think it is because of it’s unconventional steering. Keep in mind that this doesn’t steer like a bike. You have to lean the deck of the board like a skateboard to turn and the grip leans with the board. Now this board does have power and the ability to pull a trailer behind it so depending on the age of your kids you might be able to pull them behind in some sort of cart and they would probably enjoy that. But if you have them on the board you’ll have to try getting the kids to lean with you on turns. My wife and I have goofed around on it with the two of us riding and if you don’t lean together is makes it a lot more difficult to turn lol.

The Cycleboard can tow a kid's cart with no problem. I weigh over 300 and can take hills with no problem even at speed setting 2 out of a maximum of 5. BTW, my board came in perfect shape, with no damage, and worked perfectly out of the box.

You can get good quality out of China. But like everything else you actually still have to pay for it to get it. If you watch my videos on the Lorentz Major electric skateboard, it is made in China but it is a US company. That board is more expensive but is very high quality. As for the Rover, I feel like that is something that could be made very easily here in the US. It is a very simple design. If this company invested a little more back into their company it could be an amazing piece of equipment. I have no clue if there will ever be a Rover Gen 3, but I do look forward to seeing one if they ever do. Thanks for watching and commenting.
