I'd love to have one of these scythes, working on large farms for a living. The scythe would also make for a good grim reaper costume.

This makes me realize that a few hundred years ago you would've seen teams of men doing this very thing in large agricultural fields, like wheat, before there were machines to do it.

heavenlyskys1 She had only learned to scythe that weekend and was cutting a nice swath. Not fast, but neat, which is more important.

ummmmm it want criticizing CLUTCH, it was just pointing out the obvious. I simply thought it was funny that her scythe had not moved or cut a single blade. "Criticizing: indicate the faults of (someone or something) in a disapproving way." I did not say anything in a disapproving way so who's criticizing now with your "why dont they look in the mirror". THAT is disapproving now isnt it lol.

I wondered if the two in background were deliberately staying in position to accentuate the speed of the foreground figure.

I'd just go for a 'ditch axe' (also called a surveyor's brush axe, and it's more or less the same tool that the English call a 'slasher'). By whatever name, it basically a billhook on a shaft. Designed for cutting thicker brush, but can also cut grass and springy saplings. Much thicker than a machete and longer reach, more control.

Why is it that in so many videos of people using scythes they are mostly barefoot?? What's with that?

The 'tai chi' method does it for me everytime. No effort.
