Absolutely agree with all the challenges you've mentioned! I feel like it's the most untameable one among others, and the next one is Splendid. Also, absolutely agree with consistency! And this applies to all aspects in life, not only the plant hobby!

OMG I jumped and tried to grab the plant when it fell over!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha! a very authentic "chop and extend" of sorts, and much more realistic for many of us!!!!! Lovely plant, you've done an amazing job. I managed to buy my first Glorious rooted cutting last week, I'm hoping it will be as beautiful as yours in a few years.

Cut my huge AF monstera thai con in september and the top cutting( with no roots) rerooted in 4 weeks into its pot and the newest leaf is still bigger than the previous. Its kinda cool how the plants just keeps growing as if nothing happened.

Jan, I also had to 😂at the comment "your plants are large cus you live in Australia ",I'm glad that you address this as I'm in Adelaide and as you say, "condition "plays a big role in the success of your plants, as well as nutrients, consistent etc.I can't stand humility, so therefore my plants don't get the "optimum" condition as in summer air-conditioning is on constantly and in winter heater is not on at all 😅. So I know that plays a big role in the size of my leafs growth, but besides humility the plants are relatively happy with the constant nutrients upside down method of watering to maintain moisture in the moss pole 😉, say hi to Brad and a cuddle too 🥰

I agree with you, its the way you care for them. I follow a guy that lives in Canada, he has his plants in his basement, (philadendrums, monteras, full of tropical plants) and his plants are as beautiful as yours! I wanted to mention that at 4:05 you talked about glorious and EFN. Actually, the sugar like liquid on the leaf is not EFN, but nectar. Sorry if this sound pedantic but I've read a lot of confusion about it. The liquid is the nectar, produced BY extrafloralfloral nectaries. EFN are secreting glands, not the liquid. Also a lot of people said that the brown spots on the leaves are normal because they are EFN, but in fact these brown spots are just burnt leave spots, caused by the nectar secreted by EFN, but no the brown spot is not EFN. 🤓

Fellow Australian plant lover here (Brisbane) - being in Australia is somewhat an advantage in terms of the warm and humid conditions BUT also creates a heap of other issues us plant parents need to manage ie you know your babies are gonna cook in one of our many heatwaves or completely dry out if you miss a watering. It’s a whole different ballgame 😂

I’m in Colorado where it’s usually very sunny most of the time but I’m in a north facing apartment so I have gotten grow lights to help with my plants which were struggling especially in the winter. Australia has been on my no 1 visit list since high school. Someday soon

28:58 You live in Sydney and the rain and humidity, and not having to run AC, does give you some advantage. I live in Arizona in the US. The Sonoran Desert! 🌵 My plants definitely struggle. I run a humidifier, it feels like the moisture instantly evaporates. I have to buy distilled water for the humidifier because the tap water is so full of minerals, it will leave a white dust over everything. I have an older apartment that was built to keep out all direct sunlight. I love plants and didn’t have any houseplants for years because there was not enough ambient light from the sun coming in. I knew I had to invest in grow lights if I wanted to keep any plant alive. I have to run the AC for 5-6 months of the year. Last year, every day of the month of July was over 110° F/43° C. (Don’t ask me why I live here, I don’t know.) I’ve been doing this hobby less than 1 year. It’s a struggle and I’m still figuring it out. I’ve decided I need a greenhouse cabinet is a necessity if I want these plants to thrive. This is becoming an expensive hobby. Don’t underestimate the impact of the Sydney climate on your plants!

He said climate sets the potential, care realizes it. I agree that it is easier to grow in a nice climate but I think his point was about people who assume that with a tropical climate you don`t need to work at all because the plants grow themselves and no matter what he does the plants will grow huge and healthy. I understand his frustration, for me it is the same with people who think my plants are nice because I "was born with a green thumb" and they could not possibly keep any plant alive. That just shows ignorance about the actual amount of effort that goes into growing plants I think, as if I did not research and trial and error and invest a lot of time and money into this hobby to know how to grow plants in my conditions to be huge and mature, it is not JUST the "green thumb" or good climate, it is a lot more. That honestly goes for every person that is good at something like an instrument or art, people assume it is talent and therefore easy for them without grasping the thousands of hours of practice it takes to get to a professional level. I live in germany, it is very cold and dark for half of the year and the other half it is hot and dry, it took me a few years of experience but I am able to grow huge plants now. You have some disatvantages with your climate but you will learn to grow despite it and maybe even gain a deeper understanding about what makes your plants grow well.

Agree with the comment above … never denied that I have an advantage, just saying I still need to realise the potential. You certainly have a disadvantage naturally but can be overcome … just saying it’s certainly possible, just maybe not at the time & effort you are willing to out in and that’s something only you can decide :)

@@sydneyplantguy I don’t have a Milsbo green house (yet.) A week ago, I moved some of my plants to a greenhouse I used for starting seeds after they were planted out. In the last week, I’ve seen more growth in some plants than I’ve seen in the last six months. It’s amazing. I have *most* of the plants I want. I’m definitely making judicious decisions on my collection, on what is and isn’t worth the money, space, & effort to keep versus the joy I get from it.

Been watching your videos for a while now and you've inspired me soooo much. I know the fertilizer you use but can't seem to find a video where you talk about any additional things you use for them like Silica, Root Starter or transplant shock type stuff, mycorrhizal fungi, etc. Can you point me to that if there is something!? 🙏🏼💗 Thank you sooo much for all the time you spend on these videos.

As a recovering "control freak" myself, i agree one needs a proactive mindset to stay on top of plant care and supplimental conditions. It must be unassertive personality types complaining they don't live in Australia, as if they can't do anything themselves to maintain nice "houseplants". It's frustrating when life gets in the way, but you did a glorious job taming that rogue top cut. 😻

Thank you for this video. It seemed more like what happens whenever I decide to chop my larger plants. There is always a mess and choices to make that are not clear cut. Can we see updates of the top cut of your plant? It seems as if you might loss some leaves on that one due to the small root system. I would be very surprised if you don't, but would really like to see what happens. If you can make that work without leaf loss you are truly a magician.

On the Grow Vertical pole, could you put two of the plastic backings zip tied together and both ends to the mesh for a deeper moss pole if you needed to? Love your videos!

I use the screw that’s used to mount it on the disk to mount them together (yiu need to unscrew the top of the bottom light and screw it in from the inside out of that makes sense ?!) it’s not a very official way 🤭🫣

Congrats on your overgrown Glorious😳. I totally get what you’re saying about having to provide consistent care for your plants to thrive & size up. I live in southern USA, but my plants can’t take all the heat & sun in the summer. I have to work with grow lights in all 4 seasons. 41:40 great tutorial on the real hard work it takes to have big beautiful plants ❤ If all of my plants grow to potential Im going to be in trouble 😅 do you actually keep track of when each plant is getting fertilized or do you fertilize with each watering? I can't keep track. I use a very diluted amount with each watering. I use all GT products but my water is barely tinted brown. Maybe I need to use more?

Thanks :) I just fertilise with every watering because it's too hard to keep track. The brown color comes from a small about of GT rootzone on top of the GT Foliage Focus :)

I want to put my verucosum on a pole some day but I dont want giant leafs. I already chopped my monsteras leafs because they blocked everything. Only left one leaf. How to keep the leafs from going big without compromising the health of the plant? Should I keep it away from the window? Should I even give it a moss pole. Or maybe give it a small pole and chop it before it reaches maturity? I am not sure.

I'm in zone 10 (ac year round) with east facing windows and all my plants have grow lights and humidifier running. If the plants are indoors they will need extra help

Yeah I don't think people grasp how large Australia is, and the variability of the conditions - I lived in Canberra which had -5 degrees C (or colder) over Winter with humidity around max 40%. It's not this perfect hot, humid, bright place everywhere - your plants are a reflection of the care you put in.
