Just rented one today from Home Depot. Used it to take down a 50' oak tree. Worked Great! A little shaky when fully extended but got used to that after about 30 minutes. Fully limbed the tree down to 10' then took the trunk down from the ground. Never took a tree that size down before nor used a boom lift. If you have good common sense and carefully plan each fall you can save yourself a bunch of money. Cost was 300 for 24 hours vs 1200 for service to do the work. Took 4 hours to take it to the ground. Good judgement is the key here.

Rented one, cost me $298+fee’s. Best quote I received to cut down 4 trees that were dangerously close to my house was $9700. Trees had to be removed, they totaled 2 of my cars from hurricane Zeta.

That lift is a great tool. I love the Stihl chainsaw too, very reliable. PS, for the viewers: don't forget to wear a body harness, and decouple the trailer from the truck. Sometimes the self-leveling outriggers will try to lift the truck

Just topped six 40' pine trees with one. Terrifying. I used a pole saw. $130/day at my local rental place.

No one heard of 'notching trees trunks' to get the to fall where you want? What if that saw got 'hung up' in the middle of that straight cut? Not the way I was taught to cut trees. Just saying. Notching will greatly help with where your 'piece' goes as well as lessen the chance the saw blade gets hung up in a straight saw across cut. WOW...you were lucky.

Not trying to second guess but it looks like a tree company doing this. Why not just get a rope in the tree and tie the truck on and lay it down?

You took so many branches off while the tree was standing... Why not take the time to pluck each individual pine needle before sawing? Dude, section the tree in much larger sections like 4th's, 5th's or perhaps 6th's, then disect it when it's on the ground.
