There's reasons why girls are like that sometimes. This is more for girls with long hair (past bra-strap length I'd say). Long hair is a major investment. It takes years to grow, gentle care, etc. It often becomes a part of our identity, a part of ourselves. I grew my hair out from a short pixie to tailbone length, which took around 7 years for me. I would never do this (had short hair by choice most of my teenage years and was miserable from it), but if I did for whatever reason, or if someone did something malicious to my hair and I had to get it cut off, I would be completely and utterly devastated. It's one of those things that you likely won't really get unless you have long hair by choice. Of course, some people with long hair don't get bothered at doing things like this. However, a lot of us do. I've noticed a lot of people with short hair tend to have a much more flippant, dismissive attitude towards hair. At least, much more often than those with long hair.
