Her eyes getting big when trying to do it correct reminds me of myself 😂 don’t realize I’m doing it until my coach points it out and can’t help it. But hearing the difference it makes in someone else’s voice definitely motivates to keep trying myself! Lovely girl with a lovely voice 🫶🏽 keep going lil mama!! 🥳

How do you actually find a vocal coach? I want to try it but idk how to tell if they’re good teachers or not. And I also don’t know how I could be that vulnerable in front of a stranger

@@Mack2279 I actually found my coach online! She offered a trial session to get to know one other, do some exercises and sing a song to see how actual lessons work. In just one session I improved so much that I enrolled. As for the vulnerability part, that's just something that lessens with time. I've been with my coach since October and I still get nervous having to sing in front of her, but not as much as before. 'VoxTape Studios' if you want to check it out!

This is because she is trying to raise her soft palate to ensure the air goes straight out over the tongue rather than through the nasal cavity. Raising the eyebrows helps take pressure off the rest of the face which allows the soft palate to lift more easily.

I took vocal lessons my whole school career and one thing I learned is that your whole face (body, really) really effects the way you sing. Like, lifting your eyebrows can make flat notes higher, pushing your ears back can help you hit notes properly, it's crazy the way your whole body just works together.

Tip for opening that up: give a nice big yawn, and focus on how your sinuses and throat change shape through it. Do it several times until you've got it nailed. Next time you go for those open vowels, replicate that feeling. The goal is to lift the soft palate, which is what gives you those nice round sounds. 😉

I thought it's very obvious for everyone to hear when someone is singing "nasally". I just sounds weird and almost physically hurts your ears when you hear someone do that. Same with singing off-note. Sounds like nails on a chalkboard.

I stopped singing after a karaoke at a friend's house. Her brother and her had some knowledge about music, and while I was having fun and singing, they were the whole time trying to show how much they knew by saying things about my nasal voice. I like how this lady never disrespect the little girl or makes her feel embarrased about it!

What a lucky girl to have a REAL singing coach. My mom paid a woman $50 a session and all she did was have me sing along to karoke songs i didnt know (she would never let me know what we were working on ahead of time because she made it up week by week so i could never learn songs ahead of time) and she gave little to no direction. Just rude comments that made me too shy to sing in public. Keep lifting that baby girl up, sweetheart. The world needs more of it.

Her eyes opening while singing that part is the same as when you try to isolate a muscle movement for the first time, and you suddenly realize you are moving more than one. Like when ppl first do 🖖🏾 and move other fingers around before getting it but a normal reaction to accessing a feeling you haven't before while trying to train. This was great!

i basically taught myself how to sing and without any lessons i became one of the best singers in my grade. last year i started vocal lessons with the same teacher that taught all my cousins who sing EXCELLENT. he is getting super old and stricter, and he is on the traditional side. since i taught myself how to song, i never rlly opened my mouth enough and i sang nasal a lot. he would get so mad when i dont get this stuff right and i would often cry after his classes cos it was that bad. recently i took a break from his classes for a few months cos i had a tongue procedure and i got expanders put in my mouth. its not like i couldnt sing anymore but i was adviced not to and i wasnt singing properly for a couple of months. recently i started his class again and he didnt care that i had a tongue procedure or that i had that in my mouth AT ALL and started yelling at me for all my mistakes. that was my last class with him. its good to see cheryl be so calm about the same mistakes i made

If anyone is struggling with this make sure to put your head down, looking up cuts the airway in half and really gives you the nasal quality. By looking down and opening it’s much easier to sing open. Hope that helps ❤️
