Cute Cross Stitch Band Finish on a Spool with No Lacing - Quick Cross Stitch Finish
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In today's video, Kimberly shows how to do this cute cross stitch band finish on a spool! All you need is some cute fabric, interfacing, and of course a cute spool. Because the band is longer, there is no lacing, and she shows you how to pin or drape it to style it. The band is part of the Tea House cross stitch pattern, which is the first design from Lori Holt's Home Town Neighborhood series. Let us know what you think of this cute little finish and what other finishings you'd like to see!
The winners from the Spool Finishing premiere are Wendy Neal, Gloria Urrea and Angie Hinton.

Darling finish! I'll try using the Fat Quarter Shop Alphabet pattern to stitch the name of each of my three daughters-in-law and FFO on a spool as a gift.
Loved this! So cute! I would like to see more finishing that doesn’t require a sewing machine or an alternative way to finish for those of us who do not sew. ☺️
Love the finish. There are only so many wall pieces we can display. This has such possibilities.
Great tutorial, as always. I like so many things about your tutorials: Kimberly, videography, real time without speeding through, precision in Kimberly’s work, finished result! Commentary and tips and tricks are all great. Thank you! I would like a tutorial on a pin drum finish, if you haven’t done one yet. Happy stitching!
Love the spool project. I would like to see a pillow finishing using a piping trim. Also crosstitch finished in a cone shape like a strawberry or ice cream cone. And a smaller crosstitch framed in a wooden frame with a mat and behind glass. Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials.
I think it’s a fun, creative finish. I’d love to see more finishes that aren’t frames- pillows, canisters, etc
Fun finishing on pretty spools. ❤ I’d like to see more ways to make simple wall decorations. Cute Easter eggs and bunnies would be fun too.
TY🥰 Loved this creative and decorative spool idea. Yes! Would love to see more finishing ideas like the suggested pin drum. Maybe a wooden box with cross stitch top. Anything FQS comes up with is appreciated.
Love the spool finishing. They would also make great bookmarks. I would love to see finishings for small key chains or something similar for small quick stitches.
I love the finishing, such a small thing to gift 'just because'. I would love to see other vintage type finishes, and also offset finishes, such as a small cross stitched item to one side of a rectangular board with room to the side for maybe hand lettering a sentiment to go with the stitchery. Most every finish I've viewed are centered. Thank you.
I love this finish! I could see using small holiday designs on the spool and putting them in stockings, on the tree, etc. Or a happy birthday greeting on a spool instead of a card….tons of fun stuff could be done with these.
The finishing looks so professional! Well done Kimberly! Those drum rolls? Look difficult Could you show us how to finish those so they look as professional? Love these videos!
I’ve never seen those pins before, I love that you used them to hold it where you want it. I think this might be the wrong channel but I’d love to see different ways to display quilts.
I love this a cute idea for the spools. They would be so fun to decorate my sewing room with. I would love to see a tutorial for finishing cross stitched bookmarks. Also, I would love Lori Holt to design some cute bookmarks. I love her designs.
Your best tutorial ever. You seemed very relaxed and knowledgeable. You aced this one. Great job.
I loved this finish. I would love to see a similar finish for either the stitchy stars or the stitch cards. Or other unique ways to finish the stitch cards besides pillows. I love watching before work every week!
Enjoyed the tutorial. Great idea for the spools. Years ago I put sm square designs on blocks of wood about the size of children’s ABC blocks. Fringed the edges and just glued them on however many sides I wanted. Get Denise to work on that. I can send pic if you would like. 38+ years ago when first started stitching.

Please email ashley@fatquartershop.com Thank you
The finish is adorable and very useful given that I have so many spools and don't know what to do with them! I would love to see you make a journal cover with a finished piece!
What a wonderful tutorial and a great finishing idea. Would love to have a finishing tutorial on how to turn a piece of cross stitch into a wall hanging.
Thanks for the creative finishing tutorial. I would like to learn how to flat finish with a hinge so the piece will stand up by itself, little pillows, something with a fabric border, flat finish attached to anything like an old book, wood cube, wood plaque, etc. also, anything you guys come up with. I noticed in the short teasing Stitching with the Housewives at Nashville Needle Market, Priscilla used something like a key ring to hang the flat finished pieces on little ladders. That would be fun to do. Have a great week!
I love this finishing, hoping to see more finish’s that are not pillows or framed. Maybe some stand ups or biscornu 😊
I love the spool finishing. I would like to see a drum finish tutorial.
I love finishing tutorials. I also watched the twisted stitchers spool finish tutorial. It was great to compare the two and figure out what I could do. She used a tiny town piece for hers and a found spool. Glad to know you all carry a spool to use.
Love the finish! I would like to see more pillow finishes with different styles around the stitching for borders.
I love this spool so much! Very easy due to no sewing. That is a great tutorial,Kimberly! Please can you do a drum tutorial next and a strawberry tutorial. Thank you!
Seeing you do different finishes and having a tutorial is a huge inspiration! I would love a finishing tutorial for a wooden rolling pin. Thank you.
This is a fabulous finish. I’d love to see finishes pumpkins stitches, apples or pears like Joanna Figueroa does. Thanks Kimberly
It is a great finishing idea. Kimberly you did a great job. Would love to see a bigger spool finishing.
So cute! A great gift idea for a stitchy friend. I'm thinking that the finishing for the strip would make a nice bookmark for us old school readers who like real books (rather than digital). I like all your finishing ideas. Thanks so much!
I loved this finishing. Way to go Denise! So clever and I like that I can use parts of a pattern that I already have. Future finishing tutorials I would be interested in would be some of the stand-up type or a drum. I have seen other tutorials on these, but your explanations always resonate better for me. Thanks so much! 🪡🧵
Great tutorial, all the tutorials FQS does are fantastic! A drum finish or standup tutorial would be fun
I’d like to see a biscornu finish! Loved this tutorial. So many clever, creative people at FQS!
Love the spools and finishing that did on them. Would look really good as an accent in someone’s sewing space.
Great tutorial on how to finish a design on a spool. I also loved that it showed how you can take a design from a pattern and change how you can stitch some of the pattern. I would love to see finishes made into larger pillows and maybe added to a quilt that is used for decoration. I think making bookmarks would be fun too, just unsure on how to go about making them.
Wow, Kimberley, your talents really showed through on this video. I know how it is to deal with an opening along a seam and you were so talented to use the stitch witchery. I feel like I would be really fumbling but you were perfect. It’s a cute project.
This is so exciting!
Finishing a pin keep box would be new to me.
Thanks for the inspiring tutorial. I enjoy watching all kinds of finishing tutorials. I think finishing my projects is the hardest thing. I can never decide how to finish most of my projects so any tutorials are always helpful.
This finishing looks wonderful! Just wondering if the backing could be a wide, colorful ribbon, instead of cotton fabric? Very nice touch, to display the X-STITCH, it has a small "footprint ", so it would not take up much space. I could see threading the finished Spools, on a thin enough long dowel, and X-STITCH draped, and hung on a wall with twine tied to each end. Ok, maybe a bow & a few tiny buttons, too?.
Really liked this tutorial its nice to have different ideas of how to finish your cross stitch projects Thanks Kimberly and Fat Quarter Shop!!!!
Wasn't sure I would like the spool, but I love it! Would also like a tutorial on a drum finish.
I love the finish on a spool- great tutorial. I would love to see more unique ideas for finishing like this spool and the shaker ornament. Thanks for your hard work FQS team!
You are so generous!
Loved the finishing and the patterns,
Those spools are so cute ❤…..great tutorial! I think it would be great to see a tutorial on a cross stitch wall hanging (not framed) with similar backing/sewing. I love these stitched quilt-like blocks.
This finishing is really cute. Thank you for showing us. I've seen spool finished pieces but never knew how to do it.
Great idea and great step-by-step tutorial! I’d love to see a finishing idea for the larger spool you sell individually. Thank you for all you do!
The spools are a very cute finishing idea!🧵
I thought this tutorial was really cute! As one person mentioned, I would love to see something like this down with a rolling pin too!
This finishing is so cute and I think the tutorial was great. This would be really cute with small Christmas or Halloween motifs on a row too.
Loved the tutorial. Something different from flat finishes
It’s very unique I never would have thought to finish that way until I saw it. In one of the sew sampler boxes from many moons ago was a wooden spool with green ric- rac from Lori Holt.
Great tutorial for the spool finish. Your stitching is always so beautiful too. I would like to see how to finish different shapes, hearts, pears, stockings.
I thoroughly enjoyed your spool finishing today! These cute smalls really appeal to me and it is so nice to be shown how to accomplish the finishes.
I love this finish! What a great idea. I can always count on Fat Quarter Shop to bring new fresh ideas to my sewing room!
Love this finishing
Great tutorial, thank you! I’d love to see a hem stitch tutorial and ideas of what to do/how to display a hemmed stitched piece.
Love this tutorial. Would also love to see some tutorials on finishing small pillows and Christmas ornaments.
Love love love these spools! Love to see spools using sewing themed items stitched on the fabric!
Good morning from Amelia Island, Florida!
love that finishing would love to see more types of finishing.
I loved the spool tutorial. I would like to see a drum finish and seasonal dough bowl ideas
I really liked this tutorial. Love the spools too. Its wonderful that you are getting lots of finishing supplies and showing us how to do finishes others than framing. Thank you
I loved the finishing! I really like tutorials on how to do smaller objects like the spools.
I loved the spool finishing. I would like to see a tutorial on finishing a piece into a drum 🥁
I love the finishing! I hope you add more vintage projects!
I have always wanted to do a cross stitch on a spool but had no idea how to do it..thank you for showing how with this tutorial!! I love those spools! Blessings!
As always, ❤ the video and thank you ALL at FQS for everything that goes into this! I love that you go step by step, point out tips along the way! If at all possible, would love to see tutorial on drum finishing and the "lacing" and pinning for the mounting of finished pieces (if that makes sense?) Thanks again! ❤
Fantastic finishing idea! I think this would be a great beginner stitching project for my grandchildren. My mind is spinning with possibilities!
Loved the spool as a finishing piece! Would look great in a sewing stitching room. Could easily see it change with the seasons. The tutorial looked fairly easy to complete.
I love the spools. I have a collection of wooden spools in my sewing room. The cross stitch wrap is such a wonderful idea. Thank you so much Kimberly.
Love the spool finish.
A very cute finish! Just love these ideas. Being able to use a pattern in different ways makes the pattern more desirable.
Cute! Love the spools!
Step by step all the way through no cut away by the magic of tv. Thank you for your channel. How about a flat fold easel or a round finish???
As always, Kimberly, I loved this video. I also really like this finish as I decorate with antiques and this is in keeping with my decor. I actually have many larger antique spools (100 yrs old or older) that I can see some future Christmas finishes used with. I have finished a Christmas chart on an antique rolling pin as well. So many ideas/options...I would like to see a flat fold tutorial.
The spool idea is cute! I like the fact you are taking bits and pieces from patterns and turning them into other creative ideas.
Love this finish.🥰
Love this idea!!
Love this! So much fun!!
Love this spool project!
I absolutely loved the tutorial. I love all vintage things and that just reminds me of vintage things so much. I love the way you teach I would like to see more vintage cross stitch.
Amazing tutorial- I would like to see a bell pull finish for a longer banner. Something that can be rolled up for storage. With a hanger Maybe interchangeable for seasonal banners.
So cute!
Such a fun finish! This is a great idea to add to a monthly display. The spools are cute on their own too!
Thank you for sharing!
I think I will do this method with the 2024 temperature chart. Make all houses go in one straight line by month of course. Put the dark January at beginning to hide cold days. Lol
Loved the finishing! I would love to see a drum finish in future. They are so cute but seem complicated to make!
Love the spool finish!!
Love this finishing video. GREAT idea for a special gift. Could add a sweet little pair of scissors in the top hole. Did like adding the tiny pins for a more finished look.
Beautiful! Love it
I love how unique this finishing is as well as how simple it seems to accomplish.
I like your spool finishing tutorial. It’s nice to see different ways to finish our crossstitch pieces. Great idea to use part of the chart.
Wow. This tutorial is so helpful. I would love to see a tutorial on how to finish a shaped fabric piece like tiny Modernist new release of bunnies
Soooo stinkin cute!!!
Love this idea and finishing...
Love it can’t wait to try this. Thanks
As always Kimberly you knock it right out of the park! Your tutorials always inspire me with your tips and perfection thank you! I would like to see a large antique spool finish❤
I love the spool finishing! What a great way to accent pieces that you have completed with a smaller part of the design.
