It's really "quick and easy" when you have a easy background and it's already pre-selected.

Aye it’s far more easier with a plain background, but with an actual background it’s far more complex
I agree with one comment below. Doing a cut out from an almost pure white background it´s one of the easiest thing to do, and more with that deep black hair. Bad example, sorry.

And it's not fast. For white background select and mask or refine edge is much faster.

You need to type in specifics for that kind of tutorial. Specifically videos that target cutting out hair from busy backgrounds.

I think he just wanted to give the basis of how to do it. Using a busy background for this tutorial would require a lot of detailed instructions that wouldn't work well with a tutorial. I used his method with a image that had a busy background busy background and just added on what I already knew and it worked out fine. Some of the things he mentioned I would have never thought of trying before.
I've been using Photoshop for close to 20 years and never bothered how to properly cut out hair, because I never really needed it like I did til today. You just made today's project at work possible for me and in a timely manner to boot! To the complainers that say it's a bad example because it's dark hair on white background --- the same concepts are going to apply, you just might have to take extra steps in masking certain areas or additional work to get your contrast right. Besides, a good cutout means starting with the right photo and not all photos are going to work well. That's just life. Pick one that works.
Easy with a white background. The work is already 90% done if you have a white background. The cut out will be peanuts then. But this is a good tutorial to explain some basic stuff

We think that this was more about refining the the mask to offer a resolution to the problem of those fine hairs that basic masking dose not easily fix. But, we have seen several great way to skin a cat. This just happens to be one of them.
It's 2021, and about to roll over into 2022. This is THE BEST hair cutout tutorial on KZread. Not convoluted, clear directions and not to talky. THANK YOU!
I've watched a lot of videos with the same topic as one got, but surely this is the most useful and the best video in category of cutting out images with hairs in PS
I was always looking for a good tutorial for cutting out hair, so glad you made this and explained it so easily! Thanks!
Quick to the point. Simple. No fuss or sprinkles. Love your vid. Can't wait to see what else i can learn here
Great tutorial! I struggled a bit with more complex backgrounds, but thanks for the tips!
Thanks for taking the time to explain this technique! I had a similarly shot image and found it incredibly useful. Great video and very clear instructions
This is exactly what I needed. I work with a lot of stock photos like this and was having a difficult time getting the perfect masking on hair. And ignore the negative comments below. You showing how to use channels for masking just gives the designer another tool to use to achieve that perfect selection. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for taking the time to do this. Explanations, while quick, were clear and one can always rewind! I'm going to try it! Thanks again.
This is the easiest, clearest and fastest technique tutorial I've ever found on KZread! Thank you! Indeed very helpful! 👍🏻

much much appreciation of your kindness. Your precise and consistent explanations and tutorial made me enjoyed whilst I could follow your clear instructions giving a perfect result. Sooo great! Have a great and gratitude week ahead
Great! I always have trouble to cut out hair, this seemed an easy way to do a more accurate selection, though the white background made it easier too. Thanks for sharing!
These tutorial troll me pretty hard. I've yet to see one where the background is NOT a solid colour. Solid colour BG's are relatively easy. I want to see what people do for more complex back grounds.
Great video mate! I would like to see you do this on a non unicolour background, as I always have trouble with that. Again great toturial 😉

The easiest and well-instructed how-to video ever! Thank you for this!
This was amazing. I just had a super "fuzzy headed" client who I needed to do a headshot background swap with and was having the darndest time. Followed the steps and it worked perfectly. Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial! It worked out perfectly. The best one i've seen online to date.
Awesome tutorial, specially for the hair retouch. That's what I needed. Thanks!
THANK YOU! Seriously, thank you! Ive been trying to use the refine edge tool but it never works for me. Even against an all opposite color background. I always had fragments left over that i had to cut out. This here...one shot and bam perfect hair! Thank you so much!
Awesome. Best I've seen that makes it possible to do this on my own without getting lost by all the technical details.
Thank you so much for this direct and easy to follow tutorial!
I've seen many vids that use this masking method, but what you did by adding a new layer which samples from below and using clone stamp to cover the "halo" was brilliant. Thanks!
This is the best tutorial I have come across!! Thank you!!
so so helpful. Thanks Dansky
Nice Dansky...I"m almost back...but na hour everyday in Photoshop and Illustrator with you teaching is wonderful... thank you again ! Rogerio
So helpful! Just the right speed, not too fast or too slow!
Awesomeness! Thanks Dansky!
THANK YOUUUU for this tutorial!
I also find that combining techniques: this channel selection method, and then the typical "select and mask" method on a duplicate layer have also served me well.
Great tutorial! Thanks for the lesson.
