theres like a good 5 ways to do this trick which makes it really hard to learn from guessing as if you watch 2 videos you could see 2 methods. iv seen this trick done with fake scissors because your not actually suppose to cut anything. (done with having extra rope already in hand). which is cool because multiple ways leads to different stories / presentations done for it which makes it entertaining. )my favorite is mac king doing it)

Retroshift Failed at cutting on the middle. probably when you cut it on the middle, it has same lenght but when he pulled it down it was not the same.

It always seemed weird for me that the two ropes where never the same length even though they always worked with the middle of the rope

The problem i see is that when you do the move and bring the loop up you show two loops. The one facing up you're about to cut and one below your hand. Now it looks suspicious.

Sam S the rope is 2 pieces he uses the sleeve in the end after cutting up the core, at least that is my theory
