Very refreshing to see someone use a black wash and actually get it right.

Thank you 🙂 Yeah I have seen some people go a little crazy with the washes or way too dark. You want to enhance what is there not cover it up.

@@CollectorExpress true. I saw MANY butcherings of the new Thing and people were givin these people like 300 likes and comments and all that and I'm sittin back like.......you made a black Thing and its awful yet everyone loves it. Im no customiser pro but I know what looks good. Lol. But nice work. Im gonna check more of your videos
Wow, he looks way better now. Might do that to mines!
You turned the figure from a Happy Meal looking toy to a collectible. Strange how the first release of this figure, the Walgreens set, they went all out with the wash and the Super Skrull wave and retro card, which probably came at a higher price point than the Walgreens, they cheaped out on them. Oh well, great review, it's nice to watch a customizer in his zone!!

They definitely like to cheap out on the paint work. Some cases they don't even paint the backs of the figures. The orange highlights were haphazardly sprayed on with no since of how light would actually fall on the figure. The feet were the worst on this one they painted the highlights on the inside edges of the feet.
I like the result. Thank you so much for the tutorial

Glad to hear it! It's a fun hobby to get into.
VERY COOL!😊!
Awesome custom. I've never really used black wash or anything like that. I really haven't customized any of my figures but it's good to see how to do it. I always been kind of afraid to do it to mess up the figure.

It's definitely intimidating when starting to customize especially with the current prices of figure now. With washes it as long as they are not sealed you can easily remove them with a old toothbrush and super clean.
Nice
You could also use sumi ink. Comes in big bottles..water based or permenant.
Did they ever explain why they went with those stupid orange/yellow highlights and no blackwash in the first place? What a pain...

I haven't heard anything official. But it's probably just them cheaping out on the paint.
Hey i'm just starting with painting and stuff and just bought cheap acrylic paints. Can such stuff be improvised with black paint and some water? Or it won't work?

You should totally be able to thin that out to make a custom wash. I've done it with various testors acrylics.

@@CollectorExpress Thanks for quick response
I have seen numerous videos of people using this exact Testors wood stain product but I can't figure out where it is sold. I don't see it on Amazon. I did a google search and found one seller that has it listed for $119. That's nuts.

$119 dollars? I have a stock pile of it maybe I should list them LOL... But seriously I purchased mine from Michaels. I hope that you can find some it's my favorite wash and they have several different colors.
You have the video of disassembling that figure?

@@CollectorExpress Please do.🙂I specially want to know how to crack open the Thing's pelvis, remove the legs etc. I'm thinking of a custom Thing with pants and boots.
Im trying black wash just now, but why some of the wash dried like stain on some part? And cant be wiped off..

The washes sticks to the softer rubbery feeling material much more. If you don't want it to stick to those parts as much you can apply a gloss clear coat to the parts before the wash, and after applying the wash hit it with a dullcoat sealer.

@@CollectorExpress yeah, its revoltech carnage and yes its rubbery. Oh one more, and why after it dried many of it black line/wash turn into gray, kinda like dusty..
Have you done a Groot figure. I want to black wash my Vol. 3 Groot but it was so expensive I'm afraid of messing it up!

I haven't done a Groot yet, but the progress would be similar, as shown in this video. I totally understand being hesitant with an expensive figure.
I try and try but my washes always look junky to me.
