Those copper rings in the brass flare reducers are flare bonnets. They create a seal between brass to brass flare connections. Put a bit of nylog or zoomspout oil between the surfaces. Man you sure got a lot of patience. Guys like that just double the time and concentration required to get the job done. 🤣

I’ve had 2 mini split units installed, one 2 years ago (single head) and another new one (triple head) within the past week. Same brand (Gree), and the same tech doing the installation. Some of the line sets are long so he cuts off every flange fitting and brazes them together and never gets call backs for leaks.

PLEASE!! DON'T double torque your fittings!! once the torque wrench beeps THAT is a proper tightness. If you beep twice or push the tightness past the first beep YOU are OVER torquing the fitting!! ( I am a retired metrologist that tested, adjusted, and certified (among aprox. 7000 other instruments per month) torque wrenches for a large aerospace company. I love and have learned so much from you i thought i would offer this little bit of advise to help better the high standards of your skills Curtis.

I did the very same thing about 2 months ago. Went to connect piping on a system and encountered this very system. Took me a while to figure out that I had to open the valves on each circuit in order to evacuate the entire system. I install LG most of the time and they are a bit different. You gotta love DIY installers. Just gooder enough, right?

I don’t mind when my customers watch me work, I actually like it because they usually don’t understand the amount of work involved in installing or repairing an HVAC/R unit until they see it for themselves. But when you get a customer that is constantly talking like that it can be very distracting and frustrating, especially when you are trying to troubleshoot a problem. I have also had the same issues with the Navac core removal tools after a couple of uses, waste of money. I went back to the good old tried and true Appion.

Man! What a very important video for us! So much to deal with and obstacles! I am in the middle of a install of a Gree 5 zone system. My New Appion Low Vacuum core removal tool only worked for 2-line sets. After that it would not pull down below 1000 microns. I think the Nyloc sealant might be stretching out the O rings? I am waiting for my new Navac core tool. Then I see this! I do have a Yellow jacket core tool and this one seems better. What do you now use?

That's why i NEVER use valve core removal tools. They are just not worth the grief. more often than not They Leak ! Good video. Also - at 20:35 did u put a copper sealing ring where the flare nut copper line set attaches. wouldn't that be copper flare on top of copper flare on top of brass flare. if so , putting a copper sealing ring on top of a copper flare is not going to seal properly.imo.

At least you know where the leak is 😅. I was gonna say send me that core remover it would match most of the rest of my aging fleet 😅😅. Guess that one needs to go back to the manufacturer either that was one of a kind or they have a problem. You ever use Nylog on the flare fittings? Just enough to allow the flare to settle into the male part of the fitting might help. When I win the lottery I’m buying a Navac automatic flaring tool but I gotta play first 😅. Btw everything in bloom at your home looks great. Grass and a few trees are budding up here but they’re probably doomed as we will see too many frosts yet here in the mountains
