Gold tops sound really good, easily on par with other Les Pauls, I prefer the look of an Iced Tea burst. I like black guitars but a gloss black finish shows finger prints & other scuffs pretty easy.

@@Canadianwheelchairguitar thanks for commenting man! Yes bursts and gold tops are killer
I love that no 2 Gibsons sound the same . Occasionally you echo Somone else’s song .
I'm a sucker for customs, look and sound wise

man, they sound very different. i would've thought pickups being the same would mean the sound the same. can't decide which one is best. i'll take both, thanks.

I have '68 Custom Reissue. I find it hard not to play that thing for hours at a time. There's just something about ebony boards too - the feel, sound and smell.
That Black custom was the one for me!
i say both but for colour and looks i go for Gold top.

Yes man! I prefer the gold top. Thanks for watching 🤟
My ears says the black custom has more attack and note clarity. I don't even know what the hell that means :). Thanks mate fun video and well demonstrated

I agree, both guitars have the same pickups so I’d assume it’s the ebony board that’s causing that brightness and potentially the string age between the two guitars.
No competition for me. I'm a Custom guy, though I have to admit, that opening Goldtop tone was a strong opening move.

I like both. However, I'm not a fan of relicing.
Gold top is winner for me

To me Customs are only good when they are worn-in. That one is too "plastic-looking". The Gold Top is more worn-in. It has more "stink" on it.

Yea you can’t beat the feel of an old 80s custom.
Gold top....
But didn’t Slash play fake Les Pauls made for him by someone other than Gibson?

@@LysanderLH the appetite guitar was made by Krig Derrig which was indeed a “fake” but was a replica of a 1959 Les Paul and made to an extremely high level. There’s only a few “Derrig” Les Paul’s in existence and in their own right sell for £25k+ due to their high quality and scarcity in the market. At the time Gibson didn’t have a custom shop and weren’t make reissues of the golden era guitars. Slash still uses his Derrig Les Paul on all his album recordings. Thanks for watching

@@squealingpigguitars2438 Thanks for the info. Last time I saw GnR was at Wembley Stadium in the 80s, so much of this info was unavailable but rumours still circulated. My point being, that any LP not made by Gibson/Epiphone but which looks and sounds exactly like a Gibson/Epiphone LP is a fake, regardless of its probably superior build quality, which let’s face it Gibson have always struggled with. Great playing in the video btw.
Good one Ben, I'm blessed to have one of each... 🎵r0ck0n 🎵
