Love that table leg idea, think I need to get some for my DJ console cover as well 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This is a FANTASTIC build! I love the lengths of profiled aluminum running along the edges and those corner pieces. My favorite step you took was the re-rendering of that folding table, A+ for the facelift!! I’ve been planning some very similar cases, with the edging and clasps and I’ve grabbed some good ideas from your project. THANKS FOR SHARING!

As a merch dude myself, this would make life so much easier
Beautiful case. And a great video. I love how you explained why the rivets didn’t hold. That takes humility. I’ll listen to a man like that anytime.

Every rivet should be washer backed if not going thought aluminum. Unfortunately that probably every rivet on this case

Nice Job, I like the way you chopped out the latches, it looks easy but those cutting wheels dance about some, nice case.
@mesaheadk77
Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely better to cut your latch holes before hand. It’s also unnecessary to get the lid extrusions so that the latch will sit on the bare wood
Those handles should really come with a backer plate. I’ve had that problem as well
wow that was great

Great custom product for given- time + materials investment. I guess you would glue/seal the metal for more $. That would really tighten it up if needed.
Nice ! :D
Genial !!!

Pretty cool idea. I have doubts on the longevity of it though. I guess time will tell. Have you thought about using backing washers on those rivets in the future? They are made specifically for rivets in softer materials. Thanks for posting!

Those are made the same way music industry flight cases are made…. If they will last a decade handled by stoned stage hands and roadies in a hurry, they will last twice as long if not abused….
@mesaheadk77
Жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right BO. Unfortunately Rick, with the way this case was construction, the rivets will fall out eventually down the road

Where are you located, in or around Washington DC I assume? I am in NOVA and may be looking for a custom road case built for a half stack and effects and stuff. I may need to go with separate cases, one for the head and one for the cab due to the height of my truck, both live in cases. The head and cab are EVH 5150iii 100w and cab which are a bit larger than Marshalls so think it will need to be a custom build. Seems the cases are just so expensive. Any ball park would be greatly appreciated so I could know how much I need to have to pull the trigger??

what did you use to cover the wood looked like some kind a veneer
@DerekConwayTX
3 жыл бұрын
Its called ABS. Got it from TCH in Dallas
5:28 It pulled off like that, because you didn't use a backing plate or small washers on the backside of those rivets. The rivets that are used in high stress areas for ATA rated or ATA 'style' cases, need to be a little bit longer to account for the washers/backing plates.

But will it fit in the storage area of the tour bus? Candy would have loved that if she were still selling merch.
@DerekConwayTX

Customer asked for these specs so I'm assuming they know if it would fit under the bus or in the trailer behind the bus...
What is that slotted trim molding called that's on the inner lip of the lid and shelf? This whole process is awesome to watch btw.

I got it at TCH in Dallas. It's an aluminum extrusion made for road case lids, not quite sure of the name...
@mesaheadk77
Жыл бұрын
Tongue and Groove extrusion is used for the lid to meet the body of the case. Double Angle extrusion is used to connect the panels together. Single angle is used in this video, double angle is superior
I just started a non-profit 501(c)(3) to do therapeutic karaoke and am looking for a road case to house all equipment so it is basically roll case in, plug in and start show. I found a case design that does what I need with few mods. However was not impressed with the quality and it seemed way over priced. Wondering if I could connect with you and get a quote

Derek, how can I get the aluminum rail stock and rounded end caps and hardware you used on the box? I am making tack boxes for a horse trainer friend and these pieces are ideal. maybe the latches too. Hope its no bother...

Lol yeah right...
Not bracing the casters but securing them directly to the base is sketchy AF. So are the non-scuff caster wheels, venues don't like scuff marks all over their floors, especially the better venues, theaters, amphitheaters, proper concert halls, etc. I wouldn't give this build terribly long under touring conditions. Yikes.

Casters on 3/4” caster plate attached to the underside of the case with t nuts and 5/16th bolts with lock washers will do it
I think your table has a lot of play. I don't like the idea. Put more weight on it and it will become looser.
